Why is new pop bad? I can understand not liking Katy Perry and bubblegum artists like that but Coldplay are still making diverse pop like they always have. No song on AHFOD sounds like another on the record. AHFOD: Pop rock edm anthem Birds: Fast paced guitar-filled tune that grows to the very end HFTW: The most bubblegum tbh, but at least it includes horns and a cool guitar riff at the end, not mentioning the queen of today's music. Everglow: a freaking piano ballad with a guitar solo at the end. You can't complain about a Coldplay piano ballad. They've been making em for years lol. AOAL: something new and groovy. Lyrics are kinda crap lol but it's a new thing that I'm glad they did. Fun: Beautiful song that's forgotten a lot. Sure the lyrics aren't the best, but the circling guitar riff and acoustic drums make an excellent soundscape. Kaleidoscope: Best interlude ever! Cool sounds and it has purpose! Army of One: I think it's cool they made a song based on a vocal riff. Drums are the best on the album. All that's missing is a guitar solo I think. The riffs at the end are cool and all but I think Jonny could've easily made a masterful solo for this one. I won't even talk about XMTS because it's just bad. Amazing Day: Easily one of the best Coldplay songs made. Beautiful strings, strong bass, catchy riff and beautiful lyrics Color Spectrum: yeah, kinda useless. Up&Up: The definition of a Coldplay song. Working hard and seeing the good in life and never giving up. Plus 2 solos in one song! I think sometimes we use the past to compare to the present and forget how far this band has come. To call them sell outs is kinda dumb because everyone says that when their favorite band changes. People change. Fact of life. You don't have to like it, but don't let it blind you from the possible good sides of the change. The band has never made an album where the songs all sound the same. This album is just as diverse (though not as good) as Viva. This band has really grown since 1998 and it's a shame to call their success a sellout because they're doing what they want and it's working. People have said the same about other bands (Fall Out Boy, Green Day) when those bands are still topping charts. I know I'm really late but I'll explain why I like MX anyway. 1. It was the first Coldplay CD I owned. I still have it lol 2. It was the first era I experienced as a Coldplayer, even if it was late in 2013 3. The art is really symbolic to me of music itself. Music in general is just a bunch of paint streaks of different colors, styles, and patterns. Somehow at the end of the day, it all seems to come together to form one beautiful canvas. 4. Hurts Like Heaven has some of the best guitar action ever performed by Jonny. 5. The live versions of GPASUYF and Yellow are lit. 6. Up With Birds is such a beautiful song. You are thankfully wrong. The latest xylobands do multiple colors and allow different sections of the venues to be different colors. One example I jut saw on instagram had one side of the Barcelona stadium as a blue green and the other as a blue color. Its amazing!!! I think its good they'll take a break. Other bands usually burn out from fame and success. Coldplay actually paced themselves. Viva Era: Change in musical sound, escalation in popularity MX Era: First attempt at pop. This allowed the band to become a global sensation GS Era: Backing off from the big stage to keep things chill so the fame wouldn't burn out. AHFOD Era: a big return that was more enjoyed after the bands quiet GS Era Post AHFOD: Possibly a break, maybe a few singles in 2018, an EP, and I can see another album in 2020. A grand return after a quiet 3 years will allow them to get EVEN BIGGER without letting fame get to their heads and having their towering fame turn into a fad. I agree. A hiatus would be a good idea. They ramped up so much success in a small amount of time. It takes a lot of energy. A hiatus would allow the members to spend time with family and cool off. 3 years would be perfect. This tour will end in 2017 or early 2018. If they come back in 2020, it would be a huge musical return. Coldplay ruled the 2000's and the 2010's. They should at least have an impact on the early 2020's. LP8 will come, and another tour will come along with it. Coldplay's not going anywhere, theyre just in a place theyve wanted to be since 1998. I know most of you have at least heard of OneRepublic, the pop rock band which is one of the band's that Coldplay kinda kick started (another example would be Snow Patrol). Theyre supposed to be releasing their 4th album this year but i want to focus on their 2nd album Waking Up which ive been listening to a lot lately. Like VLVODAAHF, Waking Up is considered to be one of their best because of its experimental sounds and heavy use of strings. The bonus tracks on the deluxe edition sound exactly like Coldplay its actually funny. Anyway heres a rundown on each song: 1. Made For You Built on a loud drum beat, piano, and simple strings, this song is an example of how 1R can turn any arrangement of instruments into an anthem. The end actually blends in perfectly with track 2. Listen to it and youll know what i mean 2. All The Right Moves An organ, repeated snare beat, distorted guitar, and even cello create a casual rock song. 3. Secrets We've all heard this. Powerful drum beat and strings with a hint of guitar form the catchiest song of 2009. 4. Everybody Loves Me An acoustic guitar riff opens a song about overwhelming fame the band faced after their debut album. Really catchy chorus with a different sound overall. 5. Missing Persons 1 & 2 Possibly the most experimental track on the album, this song opens with a slow tempo, piano riff and not-so-subtle drumbeat with, of course, more present than ever strings. The bridge kind of divides the song, giving an obvious transition into the second half of the song which is completely different from the first involving xylophone, a faster tempo, and a more dramatic feel than the first half. 6. Good Life Do i really need to say anything? The perfect pop-rock anthem. 7. All This Time The song you want played at your wedding, trust me. 8. Fear Very cool song with a full on demonstration of the power of strings that support a high-octave piano riff. Very slow but meaningful and worth listening to. 9. Waking Up U2 rock anthem. That's all you need to know. Oh and the end features more strings. Cant get enough of that orchestra. 10. Marching On Really catchy bass line, drum beat, and "whooaaah"s. Only gripe i have is that it sounds like lead singer Ryan Tedder is singing "marshing on". He needed to pronounce the "ch" better. 11. Lullaby Really soft ending with a subtle bass drum that is fast even though the song is really slow. Basically just a bunch of sounds that will put you to sleep. Do not listen to while driving. Still loving the album. It actually does kinda flow. Its not as good as Ghost Stories' flow but its still there in my opinion 1. AHFOD: fast and energetic to get you going 2. Birds: Still fast but definitely laid back with an exciting crescendo at the end with a suspenseful cut off 3. HFTW: Energy held at the end of Birds is released 4. Everglow: Chill time 5. AOAL: Get your groove on again 6. Fun: Slow dance kinda vibe if you think about it 7. Kaleidoscope: Chill and listen to the album's main message. Maybe placed a little late in the track listing but whatevs. 8. Army of One: More upbeat -XMTS: Skip at all costs 9. Amazing Day: Take a break and look at the beauty of the world 10. I understand that everyone has opinions on here but you all are bummers. This band is having the time of their life and they dont care about people like you who talk rude about them. You can say you don't like them but to say that "it isn the Coldplay I know" is ignorant because the band has been changing since 2000, youre just being closed minded and you dont like these changes. They are right at the start of the tour and you expect perfection? No. Things are gonna change along the way so chill. Youre wasting your time on this forum if youre going to wine.
