What is the best run of songs in a Coldplay album?
Viva as a whole is flawless but contains less classic material as the Politik to A Whisper run on AROBTTH...

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Believe it or not this thread used to be about coldplay :P

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
So let's all agree that Miracles is bad. Or good. Or middle. Or not.

For me it destroys all the artistic prowess once it is about purely money - stops being art and becomes a product , which is where the arguments come from :)

Looking back - Your highs & lows of the Ghost Stories era?
Highs Magic was a lovely piece of restrained music, which showed a craftsmanship from the band which we arguably haven't seen since parachutes O. That is all. The artwork No Rihanna Guitar solo on true love Ghost Story, All Your Friends being written Midnights electronica Lows ASFOS. That is all. The overproduced version of AA on the album (guitar solo? What guitar solo?) compared to the brilliant live version we first heard. The rest of True Love Insufferable hip hop drums Ghost Story, All Your Friends being left off. Those badges/earrings Chris is intent on wearing.

Jonny said that there was some band who spent a couple of albums trying to make "The Bends", thought Id try to remember how to play the guitar again and see what all the fuss was about...

I guess we just have different views of what music is about, I think it's an art form based on a combination of music and lyrics to achieve powerful personal expression. If that is expressing happiness/optimism then great (like I said I love Oasis) but any music that is conciously made for the purpose of selling to the point of reducing individuality or expression is a disgrace and strongly contrary to what music is about IMO Yes- The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Oasis ect wanted to sell and used melody/ hooks for this, but it was always used behind personal expression and meaning as opposed to Nicki Minajs music which is written by other people to increase commerciality by surgically removing individuality. Which, IMO, is almost more a product than music and a disgrace Nicki Minaj=Massive Attack This just makes me sad.

I guess you're right, I hope that after this whole 7-albums story thing then they return with a sound that puts them more on the Radiohead, U2 scene than Nicki Minaj, Rihanna ect... In a perverted way, perhaps it'd be better if AHFOD is unsuccessful critically/commercially as then the band might feel forced to challenge themselves like they did with Viva after X&Y, which lead to their best album in 11 years and something that often resembled experimentation ;)

Thank you, I don't see how this is so hard to grasp.

1. I will put songs like Miracles in a mediocre "box" because I strongly believe that's what they are, and until you or anyone else can provide me with a good reason to the contrary I will continue to do so 2. You will also miss out on a great deal of music if you listen to One Direction in equal measure to Massive Attack. I dare say also that what you will miss will be of higher quality. 3. Of course commerciality is a factor in all music but say all music is made to make money is ridiculous and demonstrably false. However Nicki Minaj and modern pop IS purely for money, which is why it lacks any depth or meaning 4. As for Led Zeppelin there is a difference between popular and pop and even if they did write for money I highly doubt they remove any individuality to broaden commercial appeal in the style of say, One Directions writers. 5. I don't recall saying selling lots of records is a bad thing 6. Music that is made purely for money isn't just mediocre, it's a disgrace 7. Nicki Minaj does not write her commercial hits, even if she did they are shockingly awful anyway

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I get that some music is meant for simple dancing and uplifting feelings, but I refuse to put that on anywhere near the same level as music with lyrical depth, interesting instrumentation, less predictable structure and actually has something to say beyond "I'm happy" I have nothing against EDM or pop-styled music (except when it's written by professional hit-makers purely to make money for record labels, see Nicki Minaj or One Direction) but to see a band like Coldplay, who are clearly capable of using their talents for melody and hooks to drive deeper, more emotional music sink to the level of bland, and yes mediocre music like Miracles with no weight behind it is saddening - especially when they seem so happy to do it. Rant over :)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Maybe one, can't be worse than ASFOS for poppiness, but what worries me is how the band seem so happy to release such mediocre material without seeing any difference in quality between Miracles/ASFOS and the Clocks/Politik genre of yesteryear... Just speculation though, they could surprise us with a heavier, more weighty sound from nowhere :)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Ok, ok (computer? :P) let's get off Radiohead and onto AHFOD, and why an "An Album Full of Miracles" (better name than AHFOD) would be terrible IMO...
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Lol that's pretty weird, but tbf there's fans like that for every band... The only difference is Radiohead actually are the best :P Btw I love Oasis and Coldplay too, what kind of weird freak of stereotypes does that make me?! But back to topic, you think Miracles would be a good direction for Coldplay?
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Coldplay has bigger ones if they keep writing rubbish like miracles.
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Miracles is awful... I don't see why everyone wants AHFOD to sound like this...bland, forgettable, feel-good-by-numbers pop. If AHFOD is like this Coldplay will have forever tarnished the great legacy they could have had with their first 4 albums (I'm worried)

What is ASCAP?

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
It's possible but I doubt it... I think if anything it'll be MX2

Are Coldplay doing any tv/radio performances leading up to Christmas?

2015 Upcoming Releases
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Chasing Yesterday ( almost as bad a name as AHFOD?) Possibly Radiohead, but unlikely... And of course Coldplay - Random Acts (That's the kind of dream in my head lol)

Rank Coldplay's 6 Studio Albums
I'm a teenager but Parachutes is clearly superior, no Rihanna gives it an immediate edge lol...
- Count to a million!
