Just a thought. Is it possible that these shows next year are a kind of 20th anniversary celebration along with a 'Best Of' album? I don't know if the guys would really want it but maybe Parlophone wants to cash in...That will just suck (but if this is the case, hopefully we get some unreleased b-sides in the special edition or whatever)

God! The lack of news is making me nuts! :P C'mon Chris, when you announce a record, do follow it up with something concrete. Not fair! :( Could someone guide me to a good Coldplay playlist? I feel that I should make one myself but (being lazy) when I start picking out songs, I can't leave anything out and end up listening to whole albums. Lol XD

I stand corrected then :p But what I meant to say was something along Lennyrott's lines. When their record deal is over, they are no more obliged to make radio friendly songs; they can go rogue.

^ True. But there are some rays of hope. I still like the new Radiohead, Kodaline, etc. I'm sure people here know a lot more. I dunno really. I am a bit optimistic because they never had such a narrative before. (That this is their last album) To me that signifies the end of their record deal. Then, untethered, they can make music they like. I am sure Chris still appreciates the more 'original' music. Atleast in recent concerts, he is playing Springsteen, Kiss etc and loving the use of the guitar. (His rendition of HFTW on Conan was brilliant.) So maybe, just maybe in the future we will see something of the vintage Coldplay again. Also another thing that I have realised is that time makes the heart grow fonder. Now when I listen to MX, I focus on the great guitar solos, drum solos, distortion bits it has. I actually enjoy that. Let's wait and see...

Sounds more like dream theater to me :p I want them to go this way, but i really feel that such major direction changes would happen post this whole era. Whenever we see them release the next LP (in 2020/21 or whatever), that could be more experimental; when they feel free to pursue whatever music that comes to them.

Yup! This one seems to be more likely to go on the EP. It sounds great but not as good as that jam we heard earlier. (To me atleast) This feels like something off the AHFoD sessions, but still quite good and raw. If it is overproduced like the others, it may go south. Let's make it official (lol) "No Stargate Please" #NSP

They have announced a new show in Abu Dhabi on New Year's Eve, and after that (currently) they go straight to the April leg. So in that void time, we may get the EP. They may also want to try out a song or two in Abu Dhabi as well! That could be exciting!

Yup, that's quite possible. But I don't think he would have announced it so soon then... It is just an EP after all and not a full fledged album. The impatient cells in my body are beginning to duplicate. :p C'mon Coldplay! I'm hoping for a January release.

Parachutes vs Like Clockwork (Queens of the stone age)

No Stargate please :/ Though they may be good at what they do, what they do is just not my cup of tea, nor is it Coldplay's. I was fine with MX as well actually. It fit with what they were trying to do. It's just the production on AHFOD that has let me down.

I am being hopefully pessimistic (if that's a thing :p ). Coldplay have not really gone that deep into an album (let alone an EP) in a long time. I would be really let down if they are another bunch of 'colorful' songs. Personally I like the black and white (lol) ones. (I loved Ghost Story) Again with the EP, I think it would be a kind of transition into a period where they are much more unshackled. I think that was the reason why they are doing an EP and not an album (in the near future). An album requires all this really hard work into the artwork, etc but an EP can just be about the music. So though I don't expect really great songs like the first 4, but I remain hopeful of 1-2 hidden gems. Plus, it's new Coldplay, how bad can it be ;)
