The Book of my life

Let me watch by the fire and remember my days

And it may be a trick of the firelight

But the flickering pages that trouble my sight

Is a book I’m afraid to write

It's the book of my days, it's the book of my life

And it's cut like a fruit on the blade of a knife

And it's all there to see as the section reveals

There's some sorrow in every life

If it reads like a puzzle, a wandering maze

Then I won't understand 'til the end of my days

I’m still forced to remember,

Remember the words of my life

There are promises broken and promises kept

Angry words that were spoken, when I should have wept

There's a chapter of secrets, and words to confess

If I lose everything that I possess

There's a chapter on loss and a ghost who won't die

There's a chapter on love where the ink's never dry

There are sentences served in a prison I built out of lies.

Though the pages are numbered

I can't see where they lead

For the end is a mystery no one can read

In the book of my life

There's a chapter on fathers a chapter on sons

There are pages of conflicts that nobody won

And the battles you lost and your bitter defeat,

There's a page where we fail to meet

There are tales of good fortune that couldn't be planned

There's a chapter on god that I don't understand

There's a promise of heaven and hell but I’m damned if I see

Though the pages are numbered

I can't see where they lead

For the end is a mystery no one can read

In the book of my life

Now the daylight's returning

And if one sentence is true

And all these pages are burning

And all that's left is you

Though the pages are numbered

I can't see where they lead

For the end is a mystery no one can read

In the book of my life

Fields of Gold

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves

Upon the fields of barley

You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky

As we walk in the fields of gold

So she took her love

For to gaze awhile

Upon the fields of barley

In his arms she fell as her hair came down

Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love

Among the fields of barley

We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky

As we lie in the fields of gold

See the west wind move like a lover so

Upon the fields of barley

Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth

Among the fields of gold

I never made promises lightly

And there have been some that I’ve broken

But I swear in the days still left

We’ll walk in the fields of gold

We’ll walk in the fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days

Among the fields of barley

See the children run as the sun goes down

Among the fields of gold

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves

Upon the fields of barley

You can tell the sun in his jealous sky

When we walked in the fields of gold

When we walked in the fields of gold

When we walked in the fields of gold

Police to reunite for Grammy gig

Police to reunite for Grammy gig

The Police are to reunite and perform at the Grammy Awards next month - more than 20 years after the release of their last album.

Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers will open the 49th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on 11 February.

The band - who had hits with Every Breath You Take and Roxanne - last performed together in 2003.

The Police, who never officially parted before pursuing solo projects, had been rumoured to be planning a comeback.

The band started out in 1977, and had their first number one hit, Message in A Bottle, two years later.

They released their fifth, and last, album Synchronicity, which featured songs Every Breath You Take and Wrapped Around Your Finger.

'Massive news'

They last performed together in celebration of their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Music journalist Chris Salmon said their reunion was "massive news".

"There are definitely some bands who said they wouldn't reform until hell freezes over and The Police were one of those bands," he said.

"I don't think anyone who likes them or loves them would have considered this would happen.

"It's 30 years since The Police formed - and that anniversary gives you a bit of an excuse.

"I suppose people start to think about legacy and Sting perhaps wants people to remember he's not this bland tantric sex-lover, and that he once fronted this amazing rock group."

The trio, who won five Grammys in their 1980s prime, join a live performance line-up that already includes Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

That will be the highlight of the show.

Best quote in any piece of journalism in 20 years :laugh3:

Just finished reading this while I was on the crapper.

Just finished reading this while I was on the crapper.

I don't think we needed to know that, actually......................... :dozey:

The Police reveal reunion tour details

The jaunt includes at least one festival date

The Police will kick off their first tour in 23 years in Vancouver on May 28, it was confirmed today (February 12).

The three-piece revealed their plans at a press conference at the Los Angeles venue Whisky A Go Go, just a day after performing their classic hit 'Roxanne' at the Grammy Awards.

The group's first jaunt since the 1984 'Synchronicity' tour will start at the GM Arena in Vancouver, the Canadian city where the band are currently rehearsing.

After a string of dates in Canada, the band will head down to the USA for shows throughout June and July, including a slot at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee on June 16.

The dates announced so far are:

Vancouver GM Place (May 28)

Seattle Key Arena (June 6)

Denver Pepsi Center (9)

Las Vegas MGM Garden Arena (15)

Bonnaroo Festival (16)

Phoenix US Airwaves Arena (18)

Dallas American Airlines Center (26)

New Orleans Arena (June 30)

St Louis Scottrade Center (July 2)

Toronto Air Canada Center (22)

Montreal Bell Centre (25)

Boston Fenway Park (28)

New York Madison Square Garden (August 1,3)

Additional North American concert dates in Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Edmonton, Hartford, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Tampa, San Francisco, Minneapolis/St. Paul and the Washington/Baltimore area will be announced in the next few weeks.

NME.COM understands that British and European dates will be announced towards the end of the month, while it's strongly rumoured more American dates are planned in the autumn along with visits to Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland split in 1984, although they regrouped for a handful of concerts in 1986 before breaking up for good. They did perform in public at their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group also played an impromptu set at Sting's 1992 wedding to Trudie Styler.

------------

Wembley Stadium (assuming it's open by then, if not Twickenham), Millennium Stadium, City of Manchester Stadium & Ibrox stadium are my bets for the U.K. dates.

Like I said in another thread, I thought the Police sounded great (Except I was a little disappointed that the backing voices were dubbed in), but wish they could've sang a couple more songs. Glad they're back and announcing tour dates.

July 22nd in Toronto!! I know where I'll be that night! Thanks for posting the dates, Dave.:D

Wooo. I loved the performance. I hope me and my dad can make it to the Detroit show when it's announced!!!

Could Sting's "spendaholic" wife be reason for The Police comeback?

Has Sting been stung into touring by his wife's prodigious spending?

stylerST_228x312.jpgSting and his wife Trudie Styler

Emerging into the Californian sunshine this week after lunching lightly at one of their favourite chic restaurants, Sting and his wife Trudie Styler were greeted by a pack of the ruthless paparazzi indigenous to Hollywood.

As the couple launched themselves headlong into this seething mass to reach their car, there followed the sort of anarchy that makes even the most blase of passing LA motorists stop and gawp.

Amid the frenzy of flashbulbs and arc lights, the track-suited singer - who at one point had to separate two brawling cameramen - wore the sheepish expression of one more than a little embarrassed to find himself the focus of this unexpected and renewed attention.

By contrast, Trudie - all movie-star shades and million-dollar smile - surveyed this boisterous contingent with a look that said: 'Welcome back, boys.'

The previous evening, as Sting was singing with his reformed supergroup The Police at the Grammy Awards, she had been happily high-kicking for photographers in a slashedtothe-waist evening gown.

Certainly, Miss Styler , who recently celebrated her 53rd birthday, can be forgiven for wanting to party.

Not only is she the prime mover, the Mail has learned, in persuading her rock star husband to revive the band that he claimed just months ago would never reform, but the high-spending Mrs Sting has already earmarked a chunk of the £70 million that they are expected to earn.

What she wants, she usually gets - and this time, it is a £10million mansion near Buckingham Palace. It would be the couple's seventh home.

Perhaps more importantly for Trudie, who has never been averse to all the trappings and publicity that come with global fame, she has won a battle with her increasingly reclusive husband over his plans to leave rock behind for the life of a classical musician - a prospect she found distinctly unappealing.

And there's another bonus built in. As much as she loves being rich, Trudie enjoys being seen as a bona fide producer of documentaries - though she is very selective about what she does and how often she works.

To that end, she has negotiated a deal for her production company to make a lucrative documentary of The Police's upcoming two-year world tour, their first for nearly a quarter of a century.

Hardly surprising, of course, given that not only is she married to the band's 55-year-old lead singer but also has something of a fearsome reputation when it comes to having her own way.

She is said to have insisted that her notoriously laidback husband step back into the spotlight after complaining to friends that he had increasingly taken to 'living like a tramp' at their 800-acre Wiltshire pile - while she played lady of the house at one of their London homes.

It's not that Sting has exactly been idle: he put his rock music career on hold last year to learn the lute and record a classical album of the works of the Elizabethan composer John Dowland.

However, those close to him say that he has taken to lying around at their sprawling West Country manor house or their palazzo near Florence, indulging in cannabis and practising his lute.

'Often, he just sits there stoned all day, strumming,' said one friend. 'There are days when he doesn't wash or shave and he looks an absolute mess. It has become a standing joke among his staff that he often has terrible B.O.'

Even his oldest friend Jim Berryman, who has known him since he was plain Gordon Sumner in Newcastle, confirms that Sting is not too fussy about hygiene.

'Sting has got a cream jumper he's had for 25 years that he is probably wearing at this very minute,' he told the Mail this week. 'He hardly every takes it off and I'm afraid it doesn't smell too sweet.'

This is just the sort of behaviour that, according to friends, drives his go-getting wife to distraction. Indeed, members of their staff report that she regularly berates her husband over what she sees as his inactivity.

During one phone call to him in Tuscany, she is said to have told the reluctant rock star: 'Darling, for f**k's sake, do something. Come on, I really want to see a Number One.'

It's questionable whether anyone else could have cajoled Sting into joining up with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers to reform The Police, which split acrimoniously in 1984. Already, tickets for their tour, which doesn't officially kick off until May, are being offered by agencies for £7,000 each. There will also be a new album, plus a Best Of compilation.

But even before the trio announced their comeback - at Whisky A-Go-Go club in Los Angeles earlier this week - there were rumours at the band's record label, A&M, that all is not well between the band members.

They are already said to have fallen out over Sting's demands for a bigger cut of the proceeds (though it should be said that some of the profits will go to Third World charity WaterAid).

And there have also been squabbles about Sting vetoing backing musicians. And neither Summers - a U.S. resident - or Copeland are delighted at having to travel to Vancouver in Canada for rehearsals merely because their lead singer has been advised to stay out of the U.S. for tax reasons.

The three men put on something of a forced show of bonhomie on Monday as they ran through a series of their hits - including Roxanne and Message In A Bottle.

Behind the scenes, though, insiders at their record company were taking bets that the reunion wouldn't survive the 24 months that the band members will have to spend together on tour.

It is not exactly hard to read the runes. As late as last October, Summers - now aged 64 - launched a vitriolic attack on Sting in his autobiography, One Train Later, branding him a 'dictator'.

Among various tales of infighting, he recollected how Copeland had once broken one of Sting's ribs in a brawl just hours before they were due on stage.

And Copeland's own assessment of The Police's lead singer? Not one to mince words, he has labelled him an egotist, narcissist and misanthrope. 'Not only does he hate humanity, but every human within the species, except for his family,' he said. Sting's ego, Copeland continued, could be 'seen from the Moon'.

As The Police imploded, they started not only taking separate limos and private jets, but recording their contributions to albums separately.

Even before they split, fans noted that Copeland deliberately avoided looking at the singer while on stage. He apparently used to pretend that the drum-kit was Sting's head.

Last year, the pair were said to have fallen out again over Copeland's plans to remix their debut hit Roxanne for a documentary that he was making about the band's heyday. And only three months ago, Copeland ruled out a reunion, saying: 'Sting cringes when he hears the word Police.'

What has changed, then? One word: money. Summers - who has been trying to persuade Sting to reform the band for years - said last year: 'We receive offers every day.

It's pretty incredible. Every year, the price goes up. I think we could make more in four months than we did in seven years.'

When that figure finally reached £70 million, Sting - under pressure from Trudie - relented. Despite claims that he is worth £185 million, he knows that he has to keep his wife in the style to which she has become accustomed. Sting is by no means poor. From one hit alone - Every Breath You Take - he earns £1,000 a day. But he has said that he must continue to work because 'my wife shops for Britain'.

Top of her list is the 20-room house in St James's, London, which she has described to friends as 'utterly palatial'. It is not yet known if she intends to sell their existing Central London abode, a £6.5 million five-storey 18th-century house, which is just around the corner.

The Stings also own another lavish home in Highgate, North London, a 17th-century house in Wiltshire (which includes an organic farm), a duplex penthouse overlooking Central Park in New York, an Italian estate complete with vineyard and olive grove, a Malibu beach-house and a Lake District cottage.

They travel constantly around the world, often with two or more of their children: Mickey, 22; Jake, 21; Coco, 16; and 11-year-old Giacomo. In addition, there are two children - Joe, 31, and Kate, 24 - from Sting's first marriage to the actress Frances Tomelty.

Which all adds up to a lifestyle that tests the budget of even a rock superstar. In 2004, Sting instigated a series of cutbacks in the household budget, slashing the number of staff at their houses and even trimming the flower bill by ordering cheaper blooms.

According to his friend Jim Berryman, he has also installed a printer at their house in Wiltshire which spews out a running total of every penny he is earning in royalties.

'You can hear it clattering away, day and night, with all these royalty statements telling him that he has just earned 26 million yen in Japan,' said Berryman. Old habits, however, die hard. 'He doesn't actually bother looking at it most of the time,' he added.

Advised by his accountants, Sting has also leased out his North London house, just a few doors away from the home of fellow pop star George Michael. And the Malibu beach-house is rented out on short-term lets.

Meanwhile, the couple's apparently blissful marriage continues to be the focus for gossip. Sting is said to be a regular visitor to Scores lapdancing club in New York - though, in fairness, he often arrives with his wife, who buys him dances.

Last year, Trudie was said to have become close to her yoga teacher, Ryan Spielman. They apparently dined out together, and she temporarily put him up in the couple's £7 million Highgate home.

Three years ago, she cranked up the gossip mill by telling the American 'shock jock' DJ Howard Stern that she and her husband enjoyed drug-taking and threesomes.

Sting, meanwhile, has never been able to shake off his notorious claims about indulging in tantric sex for hours at a time with Trudie. Both have since claimed that they were joking.

Friends say that the couple spend long periods apart, though Trudie has been telling those close to her that she will be travelling with her husband on the forthcoming Police tour.

One said: 'Trudie can't wait. She has been loving the past few days since the announcement. She adores being the centre of attention and having all the photographers swarming around them again.

'But Sting really loved having his privacy and concentrating on his classical music. He seemed really happy being away from it all. He has enjoyed being able to walk down the street and not be bothered by anyone.' You can almost feel sorry for him.

weeeeeee.....anybody else who'll go to one of the concerts?

I'll go there in October...

that's so cool because it's special......they will only play old songs because this is a non-recurring tour...

I really hope they come to Australia. Perth in particular. But I will fly to Sydney or Melbourne for this if I have too.

i don't no a lot of the police, just their real popular songs... and i've liked what i've heard. at the grammy's when they performed, you could tell his voice had aged, he didn't even go for the really high notes. just not sure if its worth seeing
