 ofcourse not :P

U2 IS the best band right now! It's about time the Grammys do something right. What I don't see, though, is how Kelly Clarkson beat Paul McCartney for an award. What's up with that?

^I don't know, man. Seriously some fucked up shit...

I'm a proud U2 fan today. Wore my HTDAAB album cover shirt, and everyone was asking me if I watched the show, if I screamed, etc etc. People who don't even KNOW me personally as a U2 fan were asking me. I guess I'm that obvious, huh?

Just really, really, really proud of them...

Yeah I was excited about all the awards. I definitely bragged to a bunch of people. The night would have been good if Mary didn't screw up the song miserably! What a disgrace! She ruined it, absolutely ruined it!

Vertigo rocked, I was sick of it for a while but now I'm back to loving it.

    I heard a lot of people complaining about Vertigo bis in each concert for all the past year, and then when we were at show they all loved it...it really rocks, really  I jumped so much that I was bearthless after 2 minutes from the beginning of the concert...ouhh memories

Oh man, Vertigo friggin' OWNZ when played live. I absolutely love the song after all the shows I went to. I remember in October, when I was on the rail, I was rocking out SO much to Vertigo that I was sweating after it ended!   Really, really great.

I was never too impressed by 'Elevation' before I heard it live, either. But I love what they did with it this tour, with the audience interaction. So much fun!

Yes, she completely ruined it. What were they thinking? What's so great about Mary J Blige anyway?

And yes, Vertigo and Elevation are so much better live. They're so full of energy and really get you pumped!

I didn't totally mind Mary J Blige during the hurricane relief concert, but I don't know... I think I'm a bit selfish with the guys. I really just like listening to THEM, and that's it.

To me, the song 'One' isn't some angry FUCK THE WORLD song, to be screamed for all to hear. It's a bittersweet love song. Sure, many of the lyrics can be applied to modern day circumstances (such as poverty, or AIDS relief for Africa. Especially the whole "carry each other" line). But over all I think the song is a hymn. I felt Mary J. Blige killed that during the performance. It's too bad this song has been taken and turned into some weird marketing device... I don't know how to explain it. You know what I mean? It's a beautiful song, it means a lot to me, it's probably one of the (if not, the) most recognizable U2 songs. But I feel like a little bit of the real meaning of the song (at least to me) is being taken away by all the hype surrounding it...

I don't know, I kind of lost my train of thought during that. I love hearing 'One' live, I think it's an amazing moment, with the cell phones in particular. I love hearing Bono singing it, but JUST Bono.

Hah 'selfish' is definitly a good way of putting it. I too only wanted to see U2 alone, I don't want anybody else interfering (unless it was good ol Paul McCartney like during Live8). I think "One" was become the theme of 2005. The song has grown a deeper meaning as far as the Hurricane Katrina victims go and Africa/Live8 goes. It's the theme of Bono's message and campaign. We gotta "carry each other" and help one another. That is what he wants, in my opinion. One is a very powerful and emotional song.

Hopefully I worded that right. I'm not very articulate haha.

Definately understand what you're saying. I loved Paul singing with them at Live8, that was just classic. Things like that I don't mind at all, but I draw the line when someone starts murdering a song.

I do like the new meaning it's taken on. What I was trying to say (but didn't really succeed in saying) in my other post was how Bono said himself that he tried to stop the One Campaign being called that. He didn't want people confusing it with the song, or whatever. I don't think that One should be a protest song, or an angry song. When I hear it at concerts it's more a time of reflection, a time for me to just cry and sing along. When Mary J. Blige sang it, though, she turned it into some huge... I don't know. Really pissed off song.  It bugged me to no end. During the Hurricane Relief Concert I didn't mind it at all, I was pretty pissed off about the whole thing and I identified with that.

Oh well. They should have played all of Vertigo then played One ALONE. I would have been really happy. Or City of Blinding Lights! That was what they won Best Rock Song for, right? :idea2:

Yeah you're right. City of Blinding Lights would've been awesome! Oh well, maybe next year when they'll still rule the world.

I agree with you. One is not an angry song and shouldn't be. It's too beautiful to be slaughtered by Blige. I didn't know that Bono said that about the One Campaign. I mean, the song does fit but to me it's almost as if the song One has turned into an advertisement for the One Campaign. Like at the concerts this year, Bono incorporates the song with campaign with the whole cell phone thing. Now, I don't like ripping on Bono but I have to admit he, too, takes away the true meaning to "One" by advertising it like that on tour. Like you said, it's a love song. It should not be used like this. Maybe the One campaign should be called the "Bono Campaign." :wiseguy:

U2 Vertigo show was great las nite...Bono is awesome...absolutely beautiful in person!!!

No its definetely not!!

So what does everyone think of Vertigo being played twice in one show? I don't really care personally but I know some people were pretty anoyed.

Are they back to doing that for these legs? (I haven't read any setlists because it makes me sad and wish I was there   )

I saw them in May last year and they played Vertigo twice. It's not much of a closer and I've got to say, that was slightly disapointing. I'm glad that wasn't my last show... I'm not a big fan of playing twice of ANYTHING in one show. No matter who it is. Pull out a b-side or something and fill in the space that way! :wink3:

I didnt like Vertigo when the concert began...is not strong as it is at the end!...anyway...'One' could be played twice...i love that one!...ha!
