U2's Vertigo '06: Final 10 Dates Postponed

 

It is with great regret that The Next Adventure and Michael Coppel announce the postponement of the final ten dates of U2's Vertigo '06 Tour. This action is unavoidable due to the illness of an immediate family member of one of the band.

 

The effected dates are listed below."Any fan of U2 will realise that this decision has not been taken lightly', said TNA President Arthur Fogel. 'We will announce further details as soon as we have them."

 

The affected shows - which are all sold out - are:

 

March 17 & 18 AUCKLAND Ericcson Stadium

March 21 BRISBANE Queensland Sports & Athletics Centre

March 24 & 25 MELBOURNE Telstra Dome

March 28 ADELAIDE AAMI Stadium

March 31 & April 1 SYDNEY Telstra Stadium

April 4 YOKOHAMA Nissan Stadium

...I hope that everything is OK.... Oh my gosh... This sounds serious, to make them postpone all these shows like that... I really, really, REALLY hope that everything works out. Bono, Larry, Edge and Adam are the four best men in the entire world, they (and especially their families) don't deserve anything bad to happen to them.

U2 halt world tour after illness

 

U2 have postponed the final 10 dates of their world tour because a close relative of a band member is ill.

Concerts in Japan, Australian and New Zealand, due to have taken place over the next month, were called off as a result. The ill relative was not named.

 

"Any fan of U2 will realise that this decision has not been taken lightly," said tour promoter Arthur Fogel.

 

The Irish band has already played concerts in North America, Europe and South America as part of the tour.

 

'Unavoidable' decision

 

Mr Fogel said the postponement was "unavoidable" and that details of any rescheduled dates would be announced "as soon as we have them".

 

The affected shows included dates in Sydney and Melbourne as part of U2's first Australian concerts in eight years.

 

They were then due to play in Yokohama and Honolulu, Hawaii, in April.

 

Led by singer and activist Bono, the four-piece band won five Grammy awards, including the album of the year prize for How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.

 

They were subsequently named Ambassadors of Conscience by human rights group Amnesty International at a ceremony in Chile.

 

Bono's father, Bob Hewson, died of cancer during U2's last world tour in 2001.

Danielle do you remember they posponed the beginning of the Vertigo Tour last year for the same reasons..illness of someone of their families...I really hope everything will work out fine :(

Yeah. I heard Edge's daughter, Sian (who's 8) may have leukemia... It apparently came out in a newspaper/tabloid and Edge sued. Everyone should, no matter who it is, say their prayers or send any good wishes they can to the guys and their respective families. :( Let's hope it's nothing serious.

I don't blame the Edge, I hope that the media stays out of their way and lets whoever is involved deal with it.

I hope so as well. I noticed a lot of people complaining about how U2 hasn't stepped out yet and made a public statement. But if it does involve a child, or even one of their older children/wives then I don't blame them for not wanting the media attention. We have the information, now those of us with tickets just have to do what they can.

 

I should stop reading the horrible threads on Interference with a bunch of people complaining about not being able to see them in such and such days now. If U2 canceled the entire first/second and third leg back when they did the first postponement, then I wouldn't have complained, even if I had all my tickets. All I can do is pray for the Edge and his family to get through this (because at the moment I believe that that's most likely who it is.)

I can't believe people are really complaining because they won't see them for such a reason...they're not taking a vacation, it's somethign really bad and they don't have to give detailed explanations

you have no idea how much I appreciate this thread! Especially right now...with the postponement and possible cancellation of the rest of the tour due to illness of a band family member. From what I understand it's edge's daughter, sian. Who was diagnosed with Leukemia a yr ago. Which was why the tour was postponed initially. Poor sweet girl.. my prayers go out to her and the family! I hope she gets well.. My heart is breaking for them..
