Do you think the new album will sell well?

Featured Replies

Since ive been hearing mixed reviews from papers and fans i was wondering how well is it going to sell? I'm thinking it will break 10 million in a year or two!

I think it will sell steadily... The end number? I have a feeling it will outsell their previous 2 albums... It may somehow reach the 15-20 million mark? :o

There will be a new group of fans who will go out and get it after hearing the new MEGA sounds, especially after they hear more singles. As for us older fans (aka followers since the beginning), initially maybe not so many of us still-shellshocked fans who have heard it will buy, but I think as we get used to the sound and come to appreciate it, the old fans will start showing their numbers.

4 people will buy this.

Who? :stunned:

yeah i think it'll sell really well! it's getting a hell of a lot of publicity also, they're fucking everywhere!

It will sell like iced cold water in the Sahara Desert. Record breaking orders in the Amazing.UK...record breaking in iTunes.

Don't expect any less, this album will surpass the past. You're not thinking it out properly if you think otherwise.

Nothing better to do?

I think the album will be huge. Not only the recording breaking stuff from Amazon in the US, but I read an interesting article from People magazine recently. They were saying this was like U2's "Joshua Tree" and anybody who is a fan of U2 knows that's a huge compliment.

dunno about that. Coldplay would've had to have gone out on a limb and did something totally different than parachutes and arobtth, these are still semi-ballads

Apparently they have. Have you not read all the smack they're getting for this album by some people? Just read on the official site or right here. It's like every other thread, someone hates the album and says it should've been softer or something.

meh, people complain too much. The album is great...the best thing to be released since...well...A Rush of Blood to the Head

I hope it sells less so that the band can go back to doing smaller more intimate shows! The real fans will stick around in the long run... :)

Oh man that would suck so much...! The guys have put so much into this album...you can just tell by the way they speak of it in interviews. I'd be heartbroken if it didn't sell better then the rest, simply because I know they will. it's an amazing album and it should sell better.

You're talking like an EMI executive.... :o

Regardless of how many units they sell, the boys will always be proud of their work.

Chris has said that they're really proud of it, but he hopes the fans will like it as much as they do because the fans are the ones that really count. If noone buys it, that'll send the wrong message to him and the guys.

I'm not talking like an EMI executive, I just said what I was feeling. I would be really disappointed if this album didn't sell more than the rest.

Do I dare say it will debut #1 in USA?

Any idea how us old fans are reacting, as in whether it's as well received as the previous two albums? I mean I like that they're evolving but I'm not sure how fan reaction is... I've been pretty harsh myself at times.

In the US I think it will sell about 550,000 in it's first week. After the first week, the charts usually depend on word of mouth. My guess is that it will sell between about 2.5 to 3 million copies. It's not album that's going to blow anybody away, but not many people will say they wasted money on it.

I've been into Coldplay since early 2000, and I can honestly say I love X&Y and I can't be happier that they're slowly but surely, evolving.

It's like watching a kid grow up! Amazing feeling :D

Yah, I think it will sell extremely well for sure. It's Coldplay, and everyone and their mom's dog is listening to them now.

even if the album isn't that good (i think it is amazing), it will still sell well everywhere due to the hype surrounding it. this board seems to hate speed of sound, yet look at the records it broke on the download charts. coldplay are going to become huge.
