Good one - used to play that in my "commercial rock" set, along with "I Want To Break Free" (Queen), "Summer Of 69" and "Start Me Up" and "Brown Sugar" (Rolling Stones)!!

Perhaps - good tune again - but VERY melancholic. Not what I had in mind.

Melancholic? Surely not....

REM-SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE!

Don't Panic & We Never Change - Coldplay

You're Just Too Good To Be True - Andy Williams (covered by a whole lot of others)... Might be best known as the beer ad (Heineken?) :D

Porcelain - Moby

Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve

Here With Me - Dido (Roswell version) :D

Any jangly Beatles song e.g. Hard Day's Night, She Loves You, Day Tripper, Ticket To Ride etc :P

Ditto most of these, other than The Beatles ones. Most of their uptempo numbers make the grade.

Thanks, but of course :smug: :D (jk) Yep, I agree that most Beatles songs make the grade (I was just naming a few). Lemon Tree definitely. Elevation / All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2?

Actually compiling this list isn't easy... I think most of us here are more into alt rock/melancholic stuff. I know I certainly had to rack my brains for cheerful songs  It's just that uplifting songs for me don't have to be cheerful, neither do cheerful songs=uplifting :D Dunno if that makes sense? :/

This is no way a criticism of acoustic rock tunes - obviously I love them. It's just that they invoke a completely different feeling, very often a "contemplative" one.

However, "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" has a pretty uplifting quality, even though the title doesn't suggest it.
