June 27, 200520 yr Just finished listening to the album for the first time and I must say, its better than I expected after hearing some of the flack its been getting. But christ, Swallowed in the Sea. The lyrics. What the f*ck!? Rhyming tree with me with see!? and self with self. Surely he had enough time in the 3 year recording period to come up with something better than that. Ruins a lovely song
June 29, 200520 yr woooooooooo do not diss the lyrics in that lovely song, simple lyrics but they are great and lovely to listen to :D .. a song is just not about rhyming its about everything ... i love this song!
June 29, 200520 yr I like it, and the lyrics really are not as bad as your making them out to be. The rhyming just matches with the rythm. I mean... in Yellow Chris rhymes "you" and "do". That's pretty much the same thing right? ... I'll shut up now. And hello hello my sexy friend! :wink3:

I love this song, just as much as all the other ones on the album. In fact part of the reason i like it so much is because of it's simplicity. It's just really beautiful :D

June 30, 200520 yr ...i like this song very much, especially the acoustic version that was kindly uploaded...i'm wondering though, does anyone else think of sylvia plath when they hear this song?
June 30, 200520 yr I think asking Chris Martin to pen great lyrics is asking something too much; he's a wonderful singer -- possibly the best voice of this generation -- but he is not, nor has he ever been, a great lyricist. The lyrics he wrote in the Parachutes era were somehow warmer, broader, and more genuine, but thereafter he seemed to wane. But that's fine; the words may sometimes feel clumsy, but the way he sings them remains touching and worthwhile, not the least of which can be found on "Swallowed in the Sea".

June 30, 200520 yr Man, I love Swallowed in the Sea. Its lyrics may be simple, but i think thats what's so great about it. It originally reminded me of the end of Shakespeare in Love when Gwyneth's boat capsizes and it shows her being pushed down in the ocean. Am I looking too much into this?
June 30, 200520 yr And you belong with me....not swallowed in the sea....and you belong with me...not swallowed in the sea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
July 1, 200520 yr Umm...let me see...ok!! Oh brother I cant, I cant get through...........I've been trying hard to reach u cause I dont know what to do, Oh brother I cant believe its true, I'm so scared about the future and i wanna talk to u... oh i wanna talk to you......................You can take a picture of something u see...in the future where would I be?? You can climb a ladder up to the sun............ :D
July 1, 200520 yr My favorite song on the disk is swallowed in the sea... it's really good i can't stop listening to it. I think the lyrics are really good, it wouldn't be a nice song if they weren't so simple... Oh what good is it to live, with nothing left to give Forget but no forgive, not loving all you see The streets you're walking on, a thousand houses long Well that's where I belong and you belong with me :)
July 1, 200520 yr I just don't get "you cut me down a tree and brought it back to me" the tree musta been weed cause Chris Martin had to be high to think that was the best lyric to put in the song
July 2, 200520 yr I just don't get "you cut me down a tree and brought it back to me" the tree musta been weed cause Chris Martin had to be high to think that was the best lyric to put in the song That's just stuoid man..... :worried:
July 2, 200520 yr i mean, im giving the song some criticism here but i do have to say, the last half of the song is one of my favorite parts of the album nonetheless :)
July 3, 200520 yr i mean' date=' im giving the song some criticism here but i do have to say, the last half of the song is one of my favorite parts of the album nonetheless :)[/quote'] Yeah I agree... the end of the song is the best :P
July 5, 200520 yr ...i like this song very much' date=' especially the acoustic version that was kindly uploaded...i'm wondering though, does anyone else think of sylvia plath when they hear this song?[/quote'] Hmm... No, I've yet to make that connection, but I could see where you're coming from kind of.
July 7, 200520 yr Author I dont know. I've listened to the album a LOT since I posted this and some of the lyrics still make me cringe. Ah well, to each his own.
July 7, 200520 yr swallowed in the sea is one of the most horrible songs, lyrically speaking, chris has ever penned, but i still love it. fine, i understand the song is suppose to be simple...but that's not much of an excuse for some of those lame rhymes.
July 7, 200520 yr I just don't get "you cut me down a tree and brought it back to me" the tree musta been weed cause Chris Martin had to be high to think that was the best lyric to put in the song ha. i know, the first time i heard that lyric i was like 'are you serious? you wrote that, read it back to yourself, and then said 'yes! that's it!'
