The Office--American version

Featured Replies

Does anyone watch this? The new season started tonight on NBC...and it was hilarious. Honestly, this show and Arrested Development are the only two good comedies on TV anymore. Although, it probably takes a certain person to appreciate both these shows, since they're mainly character-driven and have no laugh track. Both shows haven't gotten the best ratings, but I hope that can get turned around.

Also, I find that I like the American version of The Office more than the British. I'll probably get killed for saying that, but I think because I'm from the US, I can relate to a lot more of the stuff that's going on. And I seriously have to say that I think Steve Carrell is the funniest person alive right now. (Not to take anything away from Ricky Gervais, who is a comedic genius in his own right.)

Like I said, I hope that more people pay attention to this AMAZING comedy that is severely underappreciated.

It's on at 9:30 on Tuesdays.

Last night, NBC premiered the episode on its website, so it might still be up, although I'm not sure about that. If it's not there, you might just want to download it...it was hilarious!

I kinda like the American Office but I still think it's vastly inferior to the British version. The original had an amazing ensemble cast that all had brilliant comedic timing. The American version has Steve Carrell, who is very good, and a bunch of place holders who are all more or less interchangeable archtypes, with none of the subtlety and nuance of their British counterparts. Watch the range that Martin Freeman has just with his priceless reaction shots on the original, and watch his American counterpart attempt to do it, and the difference is immediately apparent. At least to me.

I'll agree with you about Arrested Development being the only comedy on TV worth watching, though. :P

I heart Steve Carrell. That man makes me giddy and pee in my pants with delight.

Oh, and Arrested Development kicks some solid ass. Definitely my fave show on TV. Taste the happy. Blows me away.

I love this show, The premiere was hilarious. The awards, the chilli's, pam was a riot, really funny. I love it I think is a smart show..... very underappreciated.

Funny thing is...there are no Chili's in Scranton.

I didn't know that!!!!

I actually caught this on Tuesday.. not too shabby. I still like the Britsh version better...

so I am offically hooked on both versions now... and even more infatuated with Ricky Gervais' laugh!!!!! He's adorable....

Ive heard alot about this show but I havent seen it yet-gotta check it out

do it!!! If you work in an office.. you'll like it even more!

yes i watch it and bought some episodes on iTunes store. Steve Carrell is so freakin funny. GO HIM! he was hilarious in 40 Year Old Virgin too

I love the office. Its my favorite comedy on tv right now. My name is earl is pretty funny as well. I loved the office 2 weeks ago when dwight had a concussion. Funniest episode of any show I've ever seen. Last night was pretty good with Michaels carpet getting crapped on. It was hilarious when Jim had to decide whether to eat lunch with the annoying indian girl, or pam, and he just went into the bathroom to eat, lol.

but I still think it's vastly inferior to the British version. The original had an amazing ensemble cast that all had brilliant comedic timing

I don't see the point in it, the original was amazing and the American version uses basically the same storylines anyway!

I think perhaps the jokes in and humor used in the British version are different than those used in the US version- its a known fact that British humor is driven by sheer wit and sarcasm.. clever if you will. I do think the US version works because Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant are involved. I don't know if they write for it as well though...

Steve Carrell is great.

The 40-Year-Old-Virgin was not.

I'd say that I enjoy the American version of the Office a bit more than the British, just because it's cleaner humour. It's not that I don't mind crude humour (a la Dodgeball and Meet the Fockers)... but it's just that the British version of the Office is so full of it.

The Office in it's original form was well received in the US, so I don't really see why it had to be re-made! But what the hey! :P

I LOOOVE The Office, it's one of my favorite shows on TV! Last week's episode with the unions (men v. women) was hysterical

I've watched the British version a few times on BBC America, but I've got to say... some of the jokes were lost on me. And usually I take quite keenly to British humor. I was probably already biased towards the US version, though.

Steve Carell is so damn funny, I miss him on the Daily Show though

because its on cable here... the original Office.. on BBC America... I guess they wanted to make it more accessible to the 'non cable folk' lol I enjoy both... I guess there are certain office antics that are more relatable in the US version???? I dunno.... lol Same reason British TV takes American shows and makes their own version.. lol (Who's The Boss etc.. )

All I know is I am in love with Ricky Gervais.lol

My school just did a spin-off of the Office for one of our weekly news broadcasts. If you wanna see it (it's pretty funny and pays good homage to the show), it can be found here.
