Coldplay Disappointed At Three Albums

Coldplay have revealed they are disappointed with only releasing three albums.

The band have said that compared with The Beatles' work rate, they are a lot slower and are starting to panic.

"We just love being creative," bassist Guy Berryman said. "When we're out on the road, it's amazing to play live but we're really missing what we do best, which is creating. We've been together for almost ten years now and we've only made three albums."

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, he added: "When you look at people like The Beatles who knocked out a couple a year, it sort of makes us start to panic a little bit. So we're just desperate to get back into the studio."

Makes me wonder which gift I appreciate more; when the boys come out with a new album or when the boys are on tour and I get to see them live.

Ying and yang, a bit of both I guess...

^ying and yang. male and female. darkness and light. negative and positive.

i actually find it very positive that coldplay enjoys both and excells in both...unlike some bands that are only great live, or vice versa. its truly magnificent that they do take their time, instead of just recording for the sake of recording...

three albums isnt disappointing, if they were crap, then yeah, they should be dissapointed...as my motto states: creativity should never be rushed! :D

I rather have Coldplay record albums than to have a long tour

I'd rather they take their time and come out with quality albums than rush them just because they feel they should be coming out with more material. Like mildred said, creativity should not be rushed! :)

I actually prefer not making new albums at the rate they are talking about....We appreciate and love them more the longer time they do take (or atleast I do!).

hell, no

the wait is too long

hmm yea.......chris is always giving negatives and comparing to ther bands

yes...anything that's done fast usually comes out great.... :(

the songs will sound better if they aren't so overproduced and worked on for so long...parachutes was recorded in six weeks and it sounded great

Yeah, I think they were a little... too worked on. But then again, I loved the fact that X&Y sounded so powerful-- much more so than the previous albums. Don't you think so?

^ hell no!! lol

X&Y just proves that this is the type of band that thrives whilst being on tour. X&Y had so much promise.. but it disappointed me. There are a few good gems on there, but I hardly ever listen to that album. I hope they do get more creative on the road and hopefully #4 will be the best album ever to come from them.

agree...i always listen to coldplay while driving and i seem to always listen to b-sides or old album stuff...i rarely listen to X&Y

arobtth was genious...X&Y sounds to commercial for me...its good...but a bit of a let down

i think gravity and sleeping sun are great...this type of stuff should make the album...not stuff like the "the hardest part"

the only songs i like off of X&Y are low, fix you (obviosuly), square one, white shadows, and till kingdom come.

I'd rather quality than quantity!!!!!!!!.....don't know why they would say that

Haha... great they're saying that. But there's no way they can churn out an album in a few weeks. Once they get into the studio, all the pressure to make a 'great/mindblowing album' will come... I just hope they can recognise that and try to take a more 'fun' approach to recording their stuff, it would make for so many new songs. Their b-sides are so much less 'loaded' with expectations and it shows... They need songs like that in their albums... X&Y was just too operatic (worryingly, the albums are getting heavier, and heavier... even Til Kingdom Come was heavy  )

So for the new album(s)... Keyword = FUN! On the other hand, one of the key reasons why their albums tend to be listenable & durable (compared to so many bands out there) is because they do take the trouble to hone their sound and get a good balance. The more I listen to X&Y, the more ok I am with it. It's still one of the few albums that doesn't bore me after so many listens... For me, that is the mark of a great album...

^ hell no!! lol

No, it's just the fact that... I think X&Y has a lot more... just... power to the songs. Like A Message, Square One, etc. It's just more... power... I can't explain it haha. But in the same way, I think X&Y was the best and the worst. It's strange, I know. I don't get it either.

I think Coldplay is doing just fine with the three albums they have. You can tell how different each album is and they fit together like a trilogy. Parachutes was quiet, guitar-based and understated. AROBTTH was piano-driven, cathartic anthems. And X&Y was stadium rock in love. :D So now it is time to do something different and move on.

I know that X&Y gets a lot of flack from people on here and everywhere, but if you think about it, Coldplay is doing exactly what they should be doing. They are--arguably--the biggest band in the world right now, so why wouldn't they put out an album aimed to please most of their widespread fan base? Also, you never know when that kind of huge popularity might fade and they won't get to play in huge stadiums anymore, so why not enjoy it while it lasts?

I'm not saying it won't last...because I hope it does, but I think they were being smart with X&Y. I think every hugely popular group does at least one album that pleases the masses...even if the critics and the diehard fans are disappointed a little. :) :)

I hate it when artists release a new album every year. It cuts into the amount of singles and videos you get per album, and it also makes their albums less eventful.

However, there was a 3 year gap between AROBTH and X&Y, which I think is to the other extreme, lol. Waiting that long means casual fans can lose interest and hardcore fans like us can get reasonably impatient.

I think a 2 year gap between albums is really the best way to go.

Not while touring

I don't like the fact that they do some much writing while on tour. While I love A Rush of Blood and X&Y, they are missing something.

When artists write songs while on tour, they must be writing the song with the intention of playing it live. This, I believe, takes away some of the "honesty" required in making a perfect song.

parchutes and arabtth are amazing...X&Y is good

4'th album needs to be less electronic (sorry guy), but needs to show off their playing ability, not how well a machine makes a sound

mainstream music has gotten so relaint on elctro sounds that there are hardly any instrunmenst in it any more..i dont want coldplay to do this

Guess what it boils down to for me is I love the anticipation of waiting for a new album, to see what the sound and the writing is going to be like. And equally, I love the excitiement of getting to see them perform live ( in person) when they go on tour.

I'm selfish, I want it all, lol!!

I was listening to some of their more raucous live stuff today ( Idiot, Politik, Lips like Sugar Echo and the Bunnymen cover )and I think I miss the really kick ass guitar rock.

I think they should record an album whenever the fuck they want. :D

I think many of us were disappointed coz we kinda felt that they "sold out" in a way... I mean the potential for the songs in X&Y was just enormous... It's like they put out a half-finished album that only eventually got completed as they went on tour and played out the songs "live". One thing's for sure though, they went right ahead and headed exactly in just the musical direction that they wanted to go... Good for 'em I say :)

Well, I don't think X&Y was their best attempt. By far, I absolutely love Rush Of Blood To The Head, and Parachutes. Their next album sounds good, being darker. I just hope that their next CD isn't a craze as much as X&Y was. I really like liking artists that no one I know has ever heard of! (other than my parents, anyway)

They shouldn't be so critical of themselves! They are wicked awesome!!! :wink3:
