I believe that it depends that everyone chooses what is better for each one.

Men can't have childs.That's true.

But men can help.If we wait till the right moment to have sex.

Rape could not be avoid at all, because in some cases of rape, the person who is raped,is raped by a familiar, which is really sad.

That whole trimester things is a joke.

People can twist that however they want!

See, here is the process (simplified for this occasion)

(and for the Catholics...who must view life as a miracle..and the process itself as well)

The sperm ferments the egg, right? I should not even have to say more (this is where the whole things begins) Now...hypothetically, if you DID stay pregnant, then this is the seed beginning of having the child, right?

okay...so then, the egg is sitting waiting for it's life to keep unfolding...because the mom is stilll carrying that egg around..So then when the days and weeks and months of carrying around a little egg who has that potential (remember this word potential as i describe stuff) of becoming an embryo, a fetus, a baby, a child....a life. None of that ...oh there is no blood yet....so it is OKAY...

says who?!

Once the process has started...it has started.

If someone is against abortion then don't do it in your own body, but everybody must have the choice of having it.

And by the way, abortion is a contraceptive because they are performed before the 10th week, and it's proved by science it's not a human being til then. If you have an abortion on the first week it's just like taking the plan B pill

grr youre wrong. contraception is the prevention of a child being CONCEIVED. it doesnt have anything to do with when the child is a human being, because the moment of conception is the moment that contraception is trying to prevent. abortion is not contraception, because it doesnt prevent this point, it merely erradicates the result of conception.

i ad a debate at school about it and there was a girl who said 'abortion shouldn't be legalized because everyone would stop using protection and they'd be like 'ok,i don't use a condom...i can abort later''

that's just wrong.abortion is the last choice for a woman, all girls who have it done have serious consequences, physical and emotional, and it remains in their conscience for a long time. It takes balls to do it, and it definitely isn't the easiest choice to make or the faste way out

and also, its not like abortion is the easy and quick option.

first of all it is expensive to do, and even more expensive when you compare it to the price of a condom.

secondly, its hard on the girls, and think of the embarrassment a 15yr old would feel going to their parents asking for money for an abortion.

anyone would be an idiot to think 'i wont use a condom because the abortion will be easy if i need it'. even if you have no morals, it still costs money.

so i agree with you.

Shallum, you'd be surprised how differently it is looked at here ("its not like abortion is the easy and quick option") - In some communities here in America, if a girl who is quite promiscuous and has gotten pregnant a few times, is likely to go through an abortion several times. (And no, I'm not pulling this out of my ass because my younger sister, who is 13, is in middle school and I hear stories about these atrocities all the time.) I don't know about New Zealand and their ways of going about teaching contraceptives, but here in public schools, it is forbidden/a taboo to talk about using condoms by teachers, and so most students who come upon the opportunity to have sex with a boyfriend/girlfriend/"friend-with-benefits", are completely in the dark with no knowledge about condoms or birth-control and the chances of pregnancy is higher. The teachers can teach abstinence all day, but like they say, "curiosity killed the cat."

ClearAsCrystal, I'm happy for you that you know the cycle of birth, from sex to sperm and egg contact to the trimester terms, and so on and so forth and that yes, after the sperm reaches the egg in 10 days after entering, that is theoretically and scientifically when "life" begins.

As it's been said a couple of times, having an abortion during the first weeks, when the fetus doesn't have blood or vital organs it's just like throwing a condom away, because it is also a potential life. And for that matter, we shouldn't use contraceptive devices because it'd be like killing a potential life?? That's crazy

Imagine...if everybody thought like you,China would have three times the population it has now, poverty would only increase and reach stunnishing amounts.

Nah..it is a good debate..i wouldn't dislike you one bit

I don't know about New Zealand and their ways of going about teaching contraceptives

well im offended! especially on Australia Day. Check the flag again mate... im no kiwi.

and sex education is in no way taboo here. its a compulsory part of high school education, and contraception is taught heaps and heaps, even in catholic schools. i would know as ive been to a catholic school and a public school. i dont care what some redneck girl whos been pregnant 50 times thinks about abortion, because 99% of the people who get them find it a hard decision, and as a last resort.

i bet you could find stories about how some girl has had 5 abortions and couldnt give a shit, but i could give you stories of girls who have had them and its ripped their lives apart. and id bet that there it is only a very small minority who would use abortion on a whim and then do it all again later.

what annoys me is when christians people get mad because they teach safe sex in schools...it pisses me off so bad.

congrats on a successful thread maia

thanks,i love it

Well , It was my topic in a conference and i represented Ireland so i had to be a pro-life.

But , as real me , i think it shouldn't be illegal.Because illegalizing doesn't decrease the amount of abortion and it's dangerous for the life of women who doesn't want her baby. I think it has to be limited to 2 or 3 months. All the family plannig methods should be supported by the governments to reduce the number of unintented pregnancies.
