About this whole MJB 'One' thing, I think she's ruined the song, for me at least. When I listened to it at the Grammys I couldn't help thinking 'OMG, this is 'One'...One!!!! How can anybody screw that song so bad....after all it's an amazing song'. Damn, I love Bono

We have too many Katherines. She might be pretty and easy on the eyes, but NO THANKS.

i agree, she'd just blend right in and get confused with every other chick pop singer.

i was a bit surprised to see that taylor won... but good for him. :)

I never never ever would have guessed it

Taylor NEEDS to win! He's the only contestant other than Bo or PERHAPS Chris who has actual music artist credibility. I can see him becoming a real player in the industry. We have too many Katherines. She might be pretty and easy on the eyes, but NO THANKS.

SOUL PATROL SOUL PATROL! (was it just me or did Taylor look a little bit psychotic after shouting that??? LMFAOOOO)

yo yo, keepin' it real, tho, the two singles were complete shit. I liked Taylors better (just because he was the one singing it)... But I hope neither of them win so neither of them would be forced to sing that and I wouldn't be forced to listen to it every day on my car's radio on my way home from school!!!

Well you could always turn the radio off!!

I have to agree, though - both "singles" were poor. They should sack the writers!!

The first "singles" from these shows are nearly always poor, though - it's the same in the UK, unfortunately!

True - but what has he done since? He seems to have disappeared from the face of the planet!!

Anyway, here's my summary.

Of the two, Taylor was without doubt a worthy winner. Kath blew any chance she might have had when she sang out of tune on her "single". Some of the notes were excruciating, and I thought the judges were actually very kind with their comments afterwards!

The result was then a foregone conclusion - all the build-up in the world couldn't alter that.

Taylor was without doubt also the most original performer in the finals, and his image suits his singing style, so that isn't a problem for him, either.

Some of the finalists who came back and performed sounded dreadful, as did some of the "stars". What on earth has happened to Al Jarreau? Based on that performance, he should seriously consider retiring!

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly that "duet" between Clay and his "lookalike".

That guy (the lookalike) has a serious problem and should seek professional help immediately. It was good TV, though, unlike the Pickler sketches, which seemed far too contrived.

As for Clay - what has he done to his hair? The new style is so bad it looks like a wig!! He looked better before - at least his original look was natural!!

Taylor has a good chance of making it because of his unique style. There's definitely a space in the market for him.

Kath will no doubt have a huge hit with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". After that, who knows?

Her looks obviously give her a big advantage, so the odds are probably in her favour.

Kelly Clarkson is the only singer from any of the series to have achieved global success to date - and that is mainly thanks to "Since You've Been Gone", plus "The Trouble With Love", which featured in the Hugh Grant film "Love, Actually".

I liked the latter thanks to an excellent dance remix. I can't remember any other songs released by anybody from American Idol except for maybe cover versions.

The vast majority of the output seems to be forgettable.

Once again the series was very entertaining, but at the end of the day, the outcome will probably be the same - I am unlikely to be knocked out by anything released as a result of it.

Compared to what else is out there, it's almost certainly going to be second-rate.

All the best to Taylor, though - he does genuinely seem to be a nice guy, which isn't something you could say of a lot of the contestants.

Great summary, Mark. Just what I thought. I was glad Taylor won, it shows that maybe America has better taste than I expected. We really don't need another Whitney wannabe in the market

I feel bad for Taylor though. The idols are always forced to make some horribly contrived shit album, because of the stupid contract they sign. None of the albums released have ever been stellar, so it'll probably be awhile before we hear anything semi-good from Taylor. Oh well, I think I'll live.

You don't need to feel sorry for Taylor. Whatever happens, he'll have a least one successful album and be made for life. I think his real strength is in the performing, though. He'll be one of those people who you will really need to see "live" to fully appreciate.

If anyone does see him live one day, perhaps they can write a review for us!!

Haha, good point! And I'm sure as long as Taylor's out performing he'll be perfectly happy.

Well, maybe someone's going to see the idols live... I'm embaressed to admit that I went to see the first season of idol's contestants in concert......

One last point. Did anyone notice there was absolutely NO mention of the voting being close, or of percentages, which were announced in the semis?

Could that possibly be because Taylor's victory was a landslide, I wonder??:wink3:

Where? And what was it like?? From what I can remember, the finalists were of a pretty poor standard apart from Kelly................................

Well, firstly, I just have to say that the only reason I went was because it was my friend's birthday and it was a gift to her.... :uhoh: LMFAO!

It was.... I don't know. See, it was so long ago I wasn't really into music then. And I hadn't been to other concerts. So for ME, it was really cool. But now that I think back to it, it was pretty crappy. Just a rehash of all the songs and dittys they did during AI, the only difference being it was live this time.

Kelly was really good, though. It was that Justine fella's birthday, so they brought out a cake and threw it in his face. I liked that (I HATED him)...

So where did you see the concert? Where are you?

How old were you at the time?

I think you mean Justin Guarana or something like that? I heard him sing once during the second season final and I thought he sounded dreadful.

Yet another guy who was all "image" and no talent!!

If he was the runner-up, the rest of them must have been terrible!!

The rest of them WERE aweful. I don't remember much about it.

I was 14 at the time, my friend 13. I think I was 14.... I saw it in Massachussetts somewhere, I'm from Rhode Island (in the US of A, obviously :laugh4:)

Yeah, that's him! Oy.......... he was so ugly, I don't know what the American public saw in him. I just liked Kelly LMFAO!

Well I'm glad you agree about Justin. I couldn't see the attraction myself!!:dozey:

And of course, you were pretty young then, so that's a decent excuse for your being there in itself!!;)

I've just seen a re-run of the final, by the way, and the best performance of the evening was from Daniel Powter with "Had a Bad Day". He sounded very good live.
