Would You Go To War?

Featured Replies

So today is ANZAC Day. I'm not sure if other countries know about it, but it is a day of commemoration when the ANZAC (Australian and NEw Zealand Army Corps) soldiers arrived at Gallipoli, Turkey during world war one in 1915. They were faced with impossible odds against the Turks and landed at a cliff with the Turkish soldiers waiting on top. They had no chance.....

But thats not what I'm getting at. As I walked in the traditional March along with around 20 other schools through the streets I thought about the soldiers that went out to war.

The youngest ANZAC, James Martin being 14 years and 9 months old. Many of them were under the age of 18.

You had to be over 18 to enlist, the soldiers actually lied and said they were older so they could get the chance to go to war, to defend their country. I have never quite understood that.

Would you go to war?

I think the only way I would is if I had nothing left to lose, if it was fight or die, even if I had to go by law or something, I would probably hide. Am I a coward?

Before I say anything, let me just say I'm American. So when I say "our" or "we", I mean America, my country... ;)

I don't believe in war and I don't believe that it accomplishes anything. I've expressed this view before and have been accused of being anti-American, which I'm not. I am simply anti-war (which is not because I'm a Democrat, because I am not). I believe in ending conflicts in a peaceful manner, no matter what it takes. War is simply the LAST resort. I hate guns, I hate violence of any sort... I guess you could call me a pacifist... Now, I do agree with our involvement in World War II. Germany had to be stopped. I also agree with our going to Afghanastan after 9/11. I might not agree with the ways these battles were carried out, but they were totally justified.

I am not a coward, I would die for my beliefs. But I would not die with a gun in my hands. It's hard to explain, it's simply my moral beliefs that have led me to dislike violence so very much. I don't think that killing someone validates your worth in this world. You are not a coward, and neither am I.

Nope. Killing goes against my beliefs, and I certainly wouldn't kill other people because someone in my government told me to.

alot of people actually feel the need to go to war but i know if i had the choice i would do anything to escape it. would it be possible for troops to go to war for a long period of time and forget the purpose of the war??

I am with you with pretty much everything you just said an_cat. What is the point of war?

Is it to say "look at me, look how many people I killed", to prove a point, to stop something happening?

For a lot of it, the only explanation I can think of is, that someone just wants to cause mass destruction, to ruin lives because of an argument, its just disgusting.

P.S. whats your name? :P

Brooke I think that it is a long-shot, but it probably is possible for troops to forget the point of their fighting.

That also makes me think, are there troops going to war without even knowing why?

If I were made to go to war, if there were absolutely no other alternatives, I would definitely want to know why.

i guess thats what position men were put under back in world war one. they HAD to go and fight and many probably didnt know why. all they would have known is youre going to war to fight for youre country. you dont have a say. and then you were dragged away

I was actually thinking about joining the U.S. Army or Marines after high school once. I can't though. I'm disqualified because of asthma.

I don't think I'd mind going to fight as much as other people... I love combat... I was always fascinated by the science of it all. I'm not really interested in killing people... just being in combat...

Thing is though, I don't want to be a tool of the government--if I'm forced to do something, I can't just say "I don't wanna"... And if I died in a pointless war, that would kinda suck...

It is one of worlds necessity's:( as long as we have differences there will always be wars!!

Well......although I'm a girl I can answer because it is also possible to go to the army although you are a girl....

and I can say NO.......I wouldn't,....I would be too weak for that.....especially mentally!

No.I'm a pacifist.

I guess not... I would die in the first battle for sure...

Nope. I'm against violence.

I'd join the army, not sure if I'd be as prepared to go to war, but I'd consider it.

war has accomplished things, you said so yourself, in ww2 our involvement was needed. sometimes but not always war does accomplish things and solve problems, like ww2.

now for me i'd go to war for my country, i just doubt the military would take me.

Nope. Killing goes against my beliefs' date=' and I certainly wouldn't kill other people because someone in my government told me to.[/quote']

does killing go with any belief ?

For me ... i'd go to war, i'm actually starting at the royal military school next year so i'll probably go to afghanistan or kosovo in a few years time. I think that, even if the 'battle' is far away from your country that u should go. Im a huge patriot and if there's anything i can do for the sake of my country ... i'll do it ... no matter what it costs me.

well ... i made a mistake, im not probable going to afganistan or kosovo ... i'm going for sure (if there isn't another place which has belgian troopsby then).

I wouldn't join the army, so in effect it's very unlikely I will ever go to war.

If, however it got to the status where the country needed regular young people to go into war and I was asked, I'd go without hesitation if I was needed to help.
