June 29, 200619 yr London - Lead singer Chris Martin of Coldplay sang in support of Australia during a concert by slamming Italy whom Australia played against in the World Cup. Martin yelled out to the crowds during the show in Australia saying, ‘We f**king hate spaghetti anyway!’ contactmusic.com reported. He continued his rant by changing the words to the song ‘God Put a Smile Upon Your Face’ to ‘God give me style and give me grace, who needs a penalty in any case?’ Australia lost to Italy by one goal through a penalty. http://indiaenews.com/2006-06/13073-coldplay-supports-australia-italy.htm
June 29, 200619 yr Anyone who knows soccer (which most British people do) knows that it wasn't a penalty. Of course theyre going to support us!!! Especially since they were in our country at the time. Besides the underdogs always get more support hehe.
June 29, 200619 yr eh' date=' good old Chris. Sorry for any Italy Coldplay fans... if there are still any.[/quote'] Sorry what? pointless and stupid comment here
June 29, 200619 yr hahah... Italia deserved that one, they played football without any passion.. But australia gave everything, and showed their love to their homecountry! (but spaghetti isnt the worst food i know;))
June 30, 200619 yr I think the spaghetti comment was probably in the heat of the moment, before a passionate and likely irate Australian crowd. Don't think any italians in the audience would have appreciated it though - more comments like this might unfortunately get him in trouble. Luckily they don't have any more concerts in Italy on this tour ... and in 3 years' time when they do return, all will be forgotten!
June 30, 200619 yr what are you talking about? it was just a joke. if australia had beaten italy and coldplay were playing in italy, he wouldve said australia is shit.
June 30, 200619 yr I'm not su sure about that...if I remember correctly, in 2002, Chris said something about backing Oz if England didn't make it...someone would have to research that, but I think he said it. Bands do have a way of sucking up to whatever place they're playing...hell, I do it when I'm playing crappy small-town bars, because it makes ppl feel good to think the musician playing has a connection to their town...but I honestly don't thnk that's what Chris was doing here. Either way, it probably was a joke, and a damned good one...lol. GO ENGLAND!!!!!!!!
June 30, 200619 yr well maybe he just said that because australia are so little known in terms of football, and no one expected us to do well, so he said he'd go for us. anyways, i think its just a case of sucking up to the home town. im sure he has nothing against italians.
June 30, 200619 yr I'm sure in the end you're right...after all, we all know he's backing ENGLAND!!!!! But good for OZ. The Socceroos did better than alot of ppl expected, and I for one am glad they got the extra props from chris..and no, I'm not sucking up to your home-town...lol!
July 2, 200619 yr i thought it was... "god give me style, god give me grace... it shouldnt have been a penalty in the first place" ok maybe i was wrong.. it was good seeing them come out in the socceroos jerseys for the encore
