Why England?

Featured Replies

I wonder... so many non-english people around the world that like everything related to the country.

Just today the girls that present the entertainment section of the news were with the enlish football t-shirt and really sad because England was eliminated today, I was like... mmmm.

because england once used to control half the earth, everybody knows where it is ;)

Well as far as silly girls who don't like soccer but suddenly follow England go, I think your answer is named David Beckham.

As for Anglophiles in general, I'm not sure, I'd have to think about it...

because england has a great music culture? :nice:

mhhh ...

i like england too ... a lot :)

but i used to hate england somehow. they always made fun of germany and they brought up that hitler topic over and over and over and over again. and they're alawys pointing their fingers at us (still). [remember when benedikt became pope? they were spreading the news that he was in that hitler jugend.]

it's funny ... they confront us with that all the time but prince harry is the one wearing that nazi uniform ... :dozey:

that probably what i don't like about england. they don't like germany and they're not afraid to show it.

mhh ... i like that england still has that whole royal thing going on and i looove their architectural style. everything looks so noble and precious! and i really like the language and london is europe's capital to me.

the accent is very cool too ... and many nice bands are from the british isles ---

mh .-... very pointless reasons for liking england actually ...

Im really concerned that you think England hates Germany so much!! :( I can assure you that this really is not the case!! I dont know what gives you such an impression, other than football-related jibes etc.....living in England, I never hear about people making fun of Germany!! hmmmmm.

As for people really liking England, Ive come across that a lot. I think especially from people who live in America, England has quite a lot of history (well this is what one American friend I have told me once) and as someone else has said, a good place for music and culture too.

And not Berlín? :o

Something I don't like much about England is the hypocrisy the show specially in their newspapers, most of them are so "yellowish" or may I say "sensasionalist"??? Always talking bad as you say of the new pope, always with the gossips about the royal life or famous people, or how England should stay away from Europe...

Talking about the war, it was 90 years today that the battle of the somme started in world war 1, one of the most bloodist battles of the world war

i understand why people hate certain countries because of football or any other kinds of sports (totally understand that somehow) :)

yeah.

like:"the british isles are not part of europe" and all that shit and how great it is to be "faaaar" away from the continent ... :dozey:

about berlin ... i've been there a couple of times and i don't like it that much. i like the sights and all the great places but it's not my favourite city ...

i don't like the people living there.

i'm more into munich or frankfurt (germany's best city :P)

Well....as long as you realise that it is just the crappy newspapers like the Sun making these things up....it most definitely does not reflect the opinion of the majority of people from England.

because england once used to control half the earth' date=' everybody knows where it is ;)[/quote']haha that pretty much sums it up

mhhh . .... talking about football

i heard that english people don't like hargreaves cause he's playing in the bundesliga.

i thought that it was just another thing that showed that they don't like us :(

Thanks for this thread...

This is also a question that bothers me...

For myself i can say....that ngland is one of the country I don't want to visit...and I'm not attracted by this country in many things....

ok ....I like some english bands...but that's it!

And as Grace said........I also have the feeling as if they are always making fun of us and stuff....

and then they say one reason is the second world war...because then they were also against us...hello?

This is ridiculous...

I don't know...but I really feel a dislike for the country....

hehe......my mum always thought more neutral about it...but she told us today that she saw a documentary about Engöand on TV and about what english people think....or somethnig like that...and now she also feels a dislike...becasue of their attitude towards Germans...

weird....

Hm, for a few years I also dislike England, because I only knew the rivalry between both countries and the BBC series about World War II, but since I visited London in 2004 for my first time, I'm totally in love with that country. :nice: There are always so many prejudices in the media, but I think the majority of the people in both countries have another opinion. I never had the feeling that people hated me 'cause I'm German while I was spending some days in London.

Sure, many people here hates England during World Cup, but I think it's the same with the Netherlands... It's the rivalry. For myself, I can't wait to visit England someday again. :)

You got to remember the media only picks up those few people who are idiots and the whole country is said to be like those few idiots.

At least it's cooling down now

I wonder... so many non-english people around the world that like everything related to the country.

that's right.

people in the states don't know how lucky they are.

they have such a chilled way of life.

they go everywhere by car.

they don't cook at home because going out to a restaurant is pretty cheap there ...

and then they're moaning about the fact that gas is sooooo expensive there (they haven't seen our prices yet!!!!!) :veryangry2:

I want to visit England, but I think the same people always overact about England. Is a cool country with excellent people and excellent music. But I am not that impressed.

I prefer Germany and Sweden

yeah, sweden seems to be pretty cool too!

but scandinavia in general is nice :) especially finland!

trust me hargreaves is a hero in England now

the only one

yes, Hargreaves was one of the best in England at this World Cup...at least he tried to do something

i think people disliked him (did they?) because he was born in Canada, not England

Yep, and people dislike him because he doesn't play in england, so they don't know what he is like as a player.

that's right.

eh, most restaurants are jacking up their prices pretty high, so it's not that cheap anymore. everything has gotten more expensive, and i mean everything.

it costs my dad aout 60-80 dollars to fill up his tank every week...and since we do drive everywhere it just keeps adding up. but it's nowhere compared to overseas, i agree with you.
