Haha yeah sure... I'd never vote for U2 over The beatles, and there're two reasons.

When's it start? Friday is almost over here.

Lol I just went to look at the map to see the time difference in Russia and then I truly saw its massiveness. From what my map tells me there are...17 times zones. :laugh4:

Haha...oh well Sam...you have the honour to live in this future country called Australia....haha...I used to make fun of my Australian guests....whether they have developed things we don't have yet...;)

and those reasons are ?

i cant see why that 3rd place play off is what it is. i can understand the final, because theyre both proven bands but muse and radiohead

I just wanted to thank Nik for the outstanding effort and organization in putting this together. Good job dude!!

How about the next time the competition's organised, people vote for the band that they think deserve to win (either based on their musical talent/ability and / or popularity/hugeness)?

I know that for myself the bands that really move me are not necessarily the best in terms of talent / ability... I mean Radiohead are clearly miles ahead of CP musically, but I might not have voted for Radiohead if CP had not been made ineligible in this tournament (so in a way thank goodness I didn't have to make that tough decision :P).

Wooo Idioteque. Radiohead should have definitely won that, and I'm sure they would have if the vote was public.

omg thats an old school U2 video.. AWESOME.

I would like to thank Nik immensly for all his work putinto this competition and for bringing a whole heap of livelihood to the site during a 'dry period'. Thanks mate :wink2:

hey, no problems Sam. i'm off from school, so had enough time do some fun  lol

Although the way the final poll was a failure with a single poster acting as a guest voting for U2 makes you wonder if any of the other U2 polls were fair

Seconded!

Nik, well done :) And great job wading through all the arguments for or against the way this competition's been set up! :D

Sorry for bumping an old thread, don't hurt me, but I had an idea.

Nik, if you plan to do another one of these brilliant competitions, how bout make it like, each country that was in the World Cup is represented by one band? Each country has it's team (band) selected by the selectors from their own countries (a group of user's from that country) and if there is some country we can't get, we will select a band based on charts etc.

Each band remains unnamed (at least until the finals), and we use the new Media Player to give a few songs by the band so people judge based on those songs. Except for the American and English band chosen there will be few bands that lots of people know and the decisions will be more music-wise.

And plus, it could add to the musical knowledge in the community: dance:

Just a thought.

sounds like Eurovision to me ;) i was thinking about this, and figured out that 32 teams could be chosen as

12: UK

12: US and NA

3: Europe

3: Australia

2: Rest (Asia, Africa, S.America)

but actually i don't think it's a good idea, because of 16 artists which were in 1/8 finals only one wasn't from either UK or US, if i'm not wrong

well, it's just an idea.

I like this idea.......but if we sum it up into the Continents then most of the bands will really be either from Europe or from USA...
