Seems like his teammates aren't mad at Zidane - it's the complete opposite:

I'll smash your face in

ANGRY William Gallas last night warned Italian troublemaker Marco Materazzi: “I want to smash your face in!”

Chelsea’s French defender Gallas branded the Azzurri cheats and reckons Materazzi goaded Zinedine Zidane into getting sent off in the World Cup final.

The showpiece was skipper Zidane’s last match and Gallas fumed: “When I see Zidane leaving like this, I want to smash Materazzi’s face.

"I didn’t see exactly what happened but, sometimes, football is not just about what happens with the ball. Sometimes you have a player who is very clever, who says something to make you so angry that you want to kill him.”

Gallas, 28, added: “We all know how the Italians are. They always act like this — when they feel they are being dominated they try to provoke you. Yes, they are cheaters but we can’t stop that. FIFA and referees see only the second act. They never look at WHY there is an incident. I accept when the adversary wins with honour but that is not the case. We know Zizou, he doesn’t react like that."

“Sure, people can’t react like that but he has been insulted. I don’t know what Materazzi said to Zizou. He has left without explaining. But I think it was very grave. When you play against people like that you just want to kick their butt."

“It is cheating — but they are Italians. This is a problem which FIFA has to sort because it is difficult for anyone to keep calm when a player says something to make you react.”

David Trezeguet, who missed the decisive penalty as Les Bleus lost the shootout 5-3, also refused to condemn Zidane. Striker Trezeguet, 28, said: “He can leave with his head high. Materazzi, even if he has won the cup, cannot — because there is more to life than soccer. We have to remember Zidane is an extraordinary player who had an incredible World Cup. I’m proud that he played for France and I’d like to thank him and give him my congratulations.”

But not everyone in France has cleared Zidane of all blame. Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf, 38, said: “It doesn’t matter if Materazzi DID say something bad. You can’t agree with the way Zidane reacted. I feel very ashamed.”

Very well said and true!

I can already see the Italian posts coming now - "He only said that because he's bitter because he lost, haha".. It's true, mazeratti is a jerk and you all know that!

"you're just jealous that we have the cup and you don't"

:P

There's another article where Tony Grant who played with Materazzi for a certain time said that he's a "lunatic" :P

“The two things I remember about Marco are he was a very good player — and an absolute lunatic! He was one of those defenders where the ball would go past him or the man would — but very rarely both."

“When he first arrived, there weren’t too many at the club who had heard of him. But he certainly had a presence about him. He was only young but 6ft 4in and a real strapping bloke. In the first training sessions he was pinging these 60-yard balls around and you could see he was top-class. The only problem was when you tried to go round him. He’d take you down at the legs, no worries, and was determined no one would get past."

“Marco definitely had that ‘Italian defender’ thing. You just didn’t go past, it was as simple as that. He’d go in there with elbows and everything flying, then stand there with his hands up, pleading his innocence. It was horrible to watch at times!

“Off the field he didn’t really inter-act with the lads. He was a bit homesick. But playing alongside him wasn’t something you would forget quickly.”

i'm glad the team isn't condemning zizou, it's nice of them to stick behind him :)

wow that was an interesting article :stunned:

if all that was true... :o then... oh my...

“son of a terrorist whore”

Materazzi tweaked his NIPPLE

the Italian told Zidane — who understands the language after playing for Juventus — a high ball was “not for feccia like you”.

Feccia is an Italian insult meaning scum or s**t.

“Viffanculo”. (f*** off).

after twisting Zidane’s nipple, Materazzi asked him: “What, don’t you like it?” The French captain replied: “A bit too hard to turn me on.”

But Materazzi shouted: “Well, I did it that way because I know that’s how your mother likes it.”

woahhh. :o

Yeah, IF that's true, it's horrible..

But who knows if The Sun is trustworthy :P

We'll see and shouldn't judge too early!

lol I hear those in passing conversation all the time at school. :laugh3:

Things are different in Europe apparenly. :idea2: XD

yeah, you're right :P we'll just wait and see.

but this really made me laugh:

Do you want to buy Zidane's new video game? :P

hahaha'

yes very different

i think it's the whole principle, on an international level, at the world cup, a player should NOT - in any circumstances be saying stuff like that to another player, especially after the whole 'stamp out racism in football' campaign.

Yeah definitely.. Racism is a very common topic in Europe at the moment - well, around the world, but there are lots of discussions everywhere. I was proud that the WC cares about it.. I hope the FIFA will act!

i hope so too!

they brought in this anti-racism campaign - so they gotta act on it :P

Matterazi: "Oi, I have a frog in my throat"

Zizou: "Here, let me clear it"

LOL, funny!!!!!!!!

The way you're talking is without any kind of proof of what he really said and by the way if he's racist then I can't explain why his best friend is Nigerian (so muslim as well) and coming from Africa.

That's NEVER a reason for not being racist! I know a person whose best friend is Turkish but he's still a racist.. I even know Turkish, Algerian, etc who are that Austrian inside that they are against Turkish, Algerian, etc as well.. That's never an excuse!

It's true that we don't know WHAT he said, but he said something cruel and what he did wasn't alright - we don't defend Zidane, we say that the Italian players aren't perfect, and you should finally stop denying that!!

two things should be set straight

a. iriden ur being biased because he is italian

and

b. in the heat of the match both players should restrain themselves, they both play for big clubs and in a world cup final they should conduct themselves as rolemodels. racist, crude comments and violence are not what should be instilled in little kids watching soccer all over the world

and i forgot a third...

c. none of this would have happened if not for fabio grosso diving and the referee giving a penalty in the dying seconds of the australia-italy match.

huntjd, you're my new hero, what you said is absolutely right and one of the smartest things I heard so far in this section!! absolutely true!

Materazzi has now admitted that he insulted Zidane. He doesn't say WHAT he said though - he says that he pulled Zidane on his trikot and Zidane said jokingly "If you want the trikot, I can give it to you later" - Mazeratti obviously didn't get the joke and said Zidane was being "arrogant" and that's why he insulted him.. He says though that he didn't say anything about his mother and doesn't "even know what a terrorist is"..

Oh I don't believe this bastard anything he says.. He's obviously just inventing this "arrogant"-thing to find an excuse.. The video of the whole game proves that Mazeratti has been annoying Zidane all the game through, so it wasn't only this trikot-pulling-situation..

huntjd' date=' you're my new hero, what you said is absolutely right and one of the smartest things I heard so far in this section!! absolutely true![/quote']

lol. thanks mate.
