nautynnce
A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter. "What are you doing?" She asked. "Hunting Flies" He responded. "Oh. Killing any?" She asked. "Yep, 3 males, 2 Females," he replied. Intrigued, she asked. "How can you tell?" He responded, "3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone." JessLovesColdplay
Ive always wanted to know how to tell the sex of a fly because with that information I bet I could come up with some kick ass chat up lines' date=' he-yeah![/quote'] Hmm... let's see how much of genetics I can remember. Male flies will have more bristles on their legs (ie. hairier legs). Females have a more rounded abdomen and are much larger than males. I think it is the females that have the darker body. I tell you, that was the most disgusting 4 months of my life. We had to knock hundreds of flies out with CO2, then sex them and separate them by eye color. The CO2 in our lab didn't work half the time so the flies would still be moving on the platform. *shudders* Bad, bad memories. :( But it's over! I never have to take a genetics course again. :D Man, that was a lot of useless information, eh? This information is only for Drosophila meloagaster: http://www2.biology.ualberta.ca/courses.hp/bio207.hp/lab/fly_lab/m_f_fly.gif http://www2.biology.ualberta.ca/courses.hp/bio207.hp/lab/fly_lab/fly_eye_colour.gif
