COLDPLAY TO TAKE FIVE-YEAR HIATUS?

British rockers COLDPLAY are set to take five-year hiatus from recording to concentrate on their families. Following the success of their chart-topping third album X+Y, frontman CHRIS MARTIN is desperate to spend quality time with wife GWYNETH PALTROW raising their children APPLE and MOSES. Coldplay bassist GUY BERRYMAN welcomed baby daughter NICO into the world earlier this month (SEP06), and is also keen to turn his attention to being a family man.

Martin says, "It's going to be a long, long time before you hear a new album from us. We've done a few things, but we're all enjoying having families at the moment. "If it takes five years for us to feel ready to record something new, then so be it. We need plenty of time to let it come together organically."

Well, it's no news that the bands plans to take a break from the business - but that's the first time we have a quite serious quote from Chris. I think the guys really deserve a break, and their families deserve to be with them more often :D Although waiting five years is gonna be TORTURE ;) Just wanted to post the article, though we all already know it anyway..

What do you think about it?

Ah come on :P I found the article and thought the quote was interesting - he appearently said it at the aftershow party of Jay-Z's gig on Wednesday. It's good that they think about spending more time with their families, they definitely should :)

EMI will love that. maybe jonny can go solo.

Thanks for posting ;) ignore mark :P

Well....obviously Im disappointed if this is true. Its a shame but family is the most important thing.

Theyre gonna be around London...more chance of bumping into them haha. Wont happen though.

Contact music in not a reliable source at all. If they do take a break though its good that they spend time with family.

At least it was not 25 years:) . will...this news would hard to accept. But it's their decision we can't blame them.

Haha... I'm antsy for some new CP already, this is really going to test our willpower!! :laugh4:

Chris Martin always lied. this time too. there's no manager at EMI who would allow them to waste 5 years without any new albums...2011 for the new album?? lol, very unrealistic...

LP4: between 2007 October - 2008 June not earlier or later

^quote that

It's just an article.. I'm not saying it's true, I also said that we've heard things like that quite often! Chris also said it could take up to 50 years - we all know how Chris is like, and no-one expects this article to be dead serious ;)

and no-one expects this article to be dead serious ;)

only those fans who will ask Debs: "oh wtf? COldplay split??! LOLZ!!!1111 NO please, Debs say noooooooooo!!! ???? lolzz!11111 "

You should stop judging this group of fans.. We're not all like that, and you shouldn't be mad at those either - they're obviously younger and don't know it better..

True!;)

hahaha lol

who said i was talking about all of them. read that post again, girl

Oh yeah sure if someone acts stupid then he's young for sure :mean:

I'd never believe that Coldplay take such a long break. Five years is too much, some of their fans won't even care about them five years later from now if they split or whatever for five years. Besides, I don't think it's a good idea to leave music with X&Y as the last album.

He just said "if it takes five years, then so be it" -- I doubt it would.

And hey! In 5 years I'll be moving out of this stupid house and I'll probably be able to go to a friggin' Coldplay concert without having to drag people with me. :smug:

I didn't mean it that way, and I'm sorry.. 30-year olds can be as stupid as 12-year olds and I just responded to Ondes Martenot that there'll always be fans like those who get all crazy when reading such articles.. But they're an exception, and shouldn't be taken too seriously or shouldn't be judged or anything..

Forget it, it doesn't matter ^^

Chris doesn't say "we are taking a break for 5 years", typical jouro spin :(

while this saddens me, they do really need family time. this is going to be torture. my only hope is that they get itchy fingers and start recording on a low-intensity run when they feel like it, so maybe itll only be 3 years or something.

then again, who knows? though it does seem really serious...

This doesn'r make sense, they only have 6 years on the way that's a little time, they can't rest for so long...

I'd rather they stayed away for longer and came back with something really great. Plus i think, like chris has said, the public especially in the Uk are getting pretty fed up with Coldplay. They should just go away, keep a low profile for a bit then come back with a bang. Can't wait! hehe
