Coldplay to take five-year hiatus?

Featured Replies

hm i wouldn't count on this being official news, if it was Debs or someone would've made it clear or would clarify things now, but nothing's happened and we're all jumping to conclusions, as we do  but that's interesting.

if they did take 5+ years off, that is completely fine with me, they do deserve it and i'm sure that although they wouldn't release an album, maybe EPs etc, maybe. they wouldn't lose me as a fan, i don't see the logic in fans no longer staying fans because of a 5 year break, that isn't even a reason imo.

True. It shouldn't make any difference.;)

Well, It won't change anything... I'll carry on loving them... It's just it's hard to think We won't hear from our lovely band during 5 years...

You're all right... they deserve this break... much things happened... and their children are very important.. I understand the fact they want to see their children growing, and spend time with their family

Coldplay is a band of human beings. Of course they need rest(Even if it takes 5 long and pathetic years)

So what do we do?

Wait.

Fine. Its too hard.

*sigh*

No Five-Year Hiatus For Coldplay — But They Are Taking A Break

It looks like reports of Coldplay's demise — to parenthood, of all things — may be greatly exaggerated.

That's according to a spokesperson for Capitol Records, who on Monday (October 2) spoke with MTV News to dispel reports of Coldplay's "five-year hiatus" to concentrate on their families.

"The band is enjoying a much-deserved break, which I think everybody already knows," Ambrosia Healy wrote in an e-mail to MTV News. "No, there isn't a self-imposed 'five-year hiatus.' "

Healy's e-mail was in response to reports on various news sites and Coldplay message boards early Monday. The reports came just two weeks after Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman welcomed his first daughter, Nico, which made him the third member of the band to become a father (drummer Will Champion and his wife had their first child in April, and frontman Chris Martin has two children with actress Gwyneth Paltrow).

The new baby — coupled with the fact that Coldplay have no touring or recording plans on the horizon — had fans wondering if they'd have to wait until 2011 to hear the follow-up to the band's triple-platinum X&Y.

While those fears are unfounded, Healy made it clear that fans shouldn't be looking for a new album in the immediate future, either.

"There isn't a timetable for them recording the follow-up to X&Y," Healy continued. "They're enjoying not having a plan at the moment. Isn't that what a break is all about?"

Trust me when I say, there will be a point where Coldplay just can't wait to get into the recording studio, and they probably want to as it is but want to refresh themselves a little first. I think its better if their quality of life is better while they're recording so we get the better finished record :D. 5 year break? Not happening, but as for a year or a couple, we could wait. We did before.

they're currently decorating their new studio and filling it with lots of equipment...so no need to worry...

Again wait a couple of years.. Well Coldplay should be my first concert.. and well I want to go there :p I wont wait too long.. :(

Cause my first concert should be special..

And if coldplay don't come quick probably i would go first to for example the kooks or so (also a very good band.. but though..)

I was just sitting here thinking what it would be like IF they DID take a 5 year haitus.

:laugh4:

Holy shit, I'd be 23 and out of college. And I'm not even IN college yet!!! That is SO. SCARY. :laugh4:

Those bastards better not! :whip:

(just joking, obviously I don't think they're really bastards. I know people can take things too literally around here ;) )

they will be back soon and better that ever! They can make songs about changing dipers! HAHAHA

I'm confused by the fact that the last entry in this thread dates 2006, & announces that their will be a 5 year break before a new album comes out. Well, It's now July 2009. I have only recently become a truly obsessed Coldplay fan. I was introduced to Coldplay in about 2005 by my then 15 year old daughter. I am a musician and have not really been impressed by a band in a long time. Most of my musical energy has been focused on the band I worked with as a worship leader with which I worked intensely for 7 years, helping develop some very young amateurs "chops', doing as many as 11 services a week for the year prior to our own album recording and release in 2002. After 2004 I moved into my own sabatical so to speak, and it was during this time my daughter began listening to Coldplay at home & in the car. I was extremely impressed. This past March my 6 year old grandson was playing the American Idol game on wii, and began singing with the track "Speed of Sound." He had the album x&y. I couldn't guit listening to it. After everyone was asleep I would pull out the laptop & watch Coldplay videos & interviews for hours. I have become quite acquainted with most of their songs/C.D.'s.Viva La Vida came out in 2008, and I downloaded the LRLR C.D.this week. So what's up with the break? I hear their coming out with another one 12/09.Am I then to expect a 5 year break following that? I love them so much, I do worry about their family life & relationships with one another, not wanting them to burn out or break-up, with each other or their wives. What's the deal?

This thread is from 2006.

Chris made those comments in 2006. But they obviously were just Chris talking out of his ass because we got VLV in 2008.

Btw, I quite adore Chris talking out of his ass.

Don't bump threads like this! You scared me! :p
