Well at birth the baby is still not capable of much thought, really not more then a fetus. All birth does it change the physical location of the fetus/baby. It does not change its mind that much.

Being human is based on medicine not the mind. A mentally retarted person with the IQ of 1 is still 100% human. Humanity is not based on what you think, but the actual physical brain and body. a 34 yr old brain dead is 100% human.

If we use the mind arguement, a 3 week old is not human because its mind is not that aware. A 2-3 week or even a few month oldl does not have too much brain function. When we define humans by that we can use it to lead to genocide and slavery.

I'm back- I can't sleep...

I feel like we're talking in circles. :rolleyes2: There's no right and wrong answer to this and we're never going to agree...

There is though. Well no. Its how you define human. I go by science and the fact its a dna is human, it has a brain and is living makes it human. A human is not defined by its brain activity, but by physical characterstics.

when we go into how the brain works and using that to define human it leads to bad things. As i said, ive heard racist say african americans arent intelligent thus not as human as other races thus not deserving of rights. If we base what we define a human to be on just their mind we leave out the physical things that make us what we are.

Not to mention using that logic mentally challanged people arent human either. IM saying by a medical science view a fetus is a human.

its hard i know, but i don't define a fetus that is dependent as human yet. its definetly living, but not human and i think the mother should have the right of choice.

human

1 : of, relating to, or characteristic of humans

If its alive then its human, thats my point. our physical bodies not our mental awareness or minds make us human. so 2 week old that's mind is not well developed is 100% because of what its made of physically.

so a person with the iq of a 1 month old is human just because of his/her physical body.

:\

so what do you define a blastocyst as then? human?

  • Author

Not as human, but living. It does not have a heart, brain or other physical features of a human.

its a bundle of approx 64 undifferentiated cells, so i would hardly call it human.

Its not human. Like i said its not physically human.

so how then does human life begin at conception?

I can see why you feel that abortion is murder because you can get an arbotion up to the second month of pregancy- now THAT is blatant murder to me because the baby's more developed and has more human qualities.

Again, we wouldn't have this problem if more people practiced safe sex and/or abstinence!

i don't really like this whole 'murder' term. i think you guys forget how hard the decision is for someone to undergo an abortion. to compare them to a murderer in prison is unjust and unfair. its not like they are 'cold hearted killers', most of the time it is an essential choice.

I didn't mean outright, in your face MURDER. But there's no nice way to say it. They're causing the death of someone, something, whatever...

Well its hard to explain, because i believe its alive but not human and the fact it will turn into a human makes it worth being protected and destroying it wrong.

Nothing unjust or unfair....when a women kills her kid thats just wrong. What about whats just and fair to the baby?

and its not a essential choice, its a "how can i save my ass, or make my life not get worse" its an extremely selfish choice.

well i don't think thats true at all. maybe for some, but not those whom i know. i think that point of view is very evangelical christian. i thought better...

Its a grey area, and its better to err on the side of caution

well, abortion is actually illegal in my country but i think it's the mother's choice to keep the child or not

Edited by Admin because the personal insults are completely unneccessary' date=' are against the code of the board, and absolutely nothing to do with this debate.[/color']

Rape is not your problem, nor is the genocide in darfur, BUT you are no better then the people doing it unless you try to stop it. So the "well its not my problem" is just a horrid excuse. I really hope one day you're having an heart attack and you call 911 and they tell you "its not my problem" because what you reap is what you sow...and yes that probably is not true in final fantasy 90393333343 but if you'd get your head out of your inbred ass once in awhile, you'd learn something. Maybe science and the real world and morals are no fun to you, but i dont give a rats ass, ignorance is not an excuse for doing bad things or wanting them to happen.

That works with normal people. Another admin edit

*Ponders whether Nick eats meat or not*

Every damn day. I eat meat in most my meals

Its not human. Like i said its not physically human.

I didn't know that a pregnant woman didn't have a human being in her stomach...:dozey:

so, what's a baby? an alien?:laugh3:

I 've checked a site about the baby's conception...

www.babyfrance.com (in french, sorry!)

-SInce the third month, the head and the chest are two different parts of the baby. The nose, and the ears start to appear.

His body begins to be shaped, with bones, muscles and nerves.

The baby's size is around 5 cm, and his weight is around 10 grams.

At the third month, the baby becomes a guy, or a girl. but it's not obvious yet...

When the 15th week will be reached, the parents can know if the baby is a guy or a girl, cos the sexual character will be obvious.

-4th month: the baby is around 10 cm.

He 's got already some human reflexes, like swallowing or sucking.

His body grows faster, his forehead too.

The eyes, the teeth start to be shaped,

His limbs appear clearly, he's got fingertips.

The skin is stronger but still transluent. (the veins can still be seen.)

The hair is growing. The heart is beating faster (120->160 bpm)

The abdomen is a bit big, the bowels are already shaped, the kidneys begin to work.

Although he's a human being-a-like, he couldn't live like we do.

do I really need to explain more?

So since the 4th month, the baby IS human... right?
