Chris Martin as the most important part

Featured Replies

Hey i found this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNo4eHp6mUM

although it is extremly exaggerated and not so funny (i have to say i do not understand the whole text) i thought about it.

i do not want to fight the chris fans but in a lot of interviews only chris talks and does not give the others a chance.

these are some examples i found. i did not have so much time to find more. maybe i ll send some more later. (sorry these examples are not very good. but maybe you saw something like that anyway.)

i just think that sometimes you have the feeling that chris thinks the interviewer is only talking to him.

i like chris, do not get my wrong. just want to ask whether some of you share a similar opinion...

(I ll be glad, if you can proobe the opposite to me)

Well.. I guess it's normal for any band, unfortunately. To me, it's not because Chris is arrogant and thinks the interviewer is only talking to him, it's basically because Chris could just talk and talk and talk all day :P And the other three guys simply aren't that chatty - just look at them in interviews, they never look too enthusiastic =P I don't think they have a problem with staying in the background during interviews - it's just not how they are like! Chris is the one in the front, the one who's goofing around and who talks a lot, and the others just don't do / like that, no matter if on stage or in front of an interviewer.. That's at least what I think ^^

The other three would prefer to stay out of the limelight so they seem to avoid press whenever they can. Shame for us! :(

Both Jonny and Guy have said in interviews that they'd rather stay out of the press if they can and Will keeps his personal life the most private of them all.

I guess it is part of being a front man to deal with the bulk of the interviews... He's not being selfish or arrogant.

I agree. Not only is Chris more extraverted...at least in public...than the other three, but the press focus on Chris more because he's the front-man. And more recently, they focus on him more because of his wife. It's just a fact of the business that the singer gets the bulk of the attention. If you watch interviews with most bands, it's the singer that does most of the talking. It's not arrogance IMO.

EDIT: And there are plenty of interviews in which Chris himself points out that Coldplay is 4 people, all equally important in making the music they make. Hope that makes you feel better!!

I agree with what everyone here said. Chris is such an extrovert compared to the rest of the guys. He's just more chatty and such. Will, Guy, and Jonny have all said that they perfer to kind of stand back.

Will did say something about them having to come out a bit more though, because Chris is not only getting all of the spotlight, but also all of the negativity.

Also, if you watch those interviews, there's not really any arrogance behind it all. It's just how he is. You should also check out the 2002 and 2005 MuchMusic specials, and the MTV Live Leak and the MTV Spin Interview and 100% Coldplay and... yeah... there's lots of others where the guys contribute to the interview. Not as much as Chris, but it's not because Chris cuts across them.

Yeah, Chris is often pointing out how a band is not just about one person but about all of the members.

Chris just has that kind of personality... like when Jonny sang at the Toronto concert he was really shy and you could see that having the spotlight on him just isn't his thing.

That first video... is so fricking retarded.

Yeah I agree. I don't think he intentionally does it but I have noticed the rest of the band being more vocal since X&Y was released. I've also noticed that quite often Chris will interrupt one of the others to get his point in or perhaps finish their sentences for them.

The ones that stick in my mind are perhaps the Jonothan Ross interview from last year, and also the Brits 06. The Brits really got to me actually because when they won best album Chris gave Will the mic to say the acceptance speach. Rather than just leave it with what Will had said, Chris mentioned them being away for a while and basically did his own little thank you. The next day, as well all know, this was the point that the press focused on. In the TV screening they cut out part of what Will had said. He actually went on to dedicate the award to a little boy (who I assume was ill) and said it was his courage that was an inspiration to them all. :)

Now obviously, that wasn't Chris's fault. And as I said, I don;t think he does it intentionally. Also, the others are often quite happy to let him do all the talking! But, it doesn't help that he is the face and voice of Coldplay when a large portion of the general public can't stand him :laugh3:

I think Chris has became a LOT more outgoing than he was.

I saw him on Jools Holland being interviewed in 2002 and he was much more reserved.

I don't like it when one member of a band becomes too big:\ , Chris seems to love being interviewed and he seems much more comfortable in the media spotlight than the others.

Perhaps as he said in the final, (American) interview his experiences with the Paparazzi when he met Gwyneth has improved his confidence

chris is the frontman of the band , he has a lot to speak....

That's not true. There are times when an interviewer would ask them a question...and Chris would look around like 'guys feel free to answer' and they stay silent...so he takes it. It seems like some unstated position that he's taken as lead singer. He'll look at one of them so often giving them a 'go ahead' signal. Sometimes I know he's even asked them to answer up front, lol.

Whenever he finishes or elaborates on someones comment..I think that just how he is. It's not him saying 'LISTEN TO ME! SHUT UP JON/GUY/WILL! '

That All Eyes on Coldplay interview comes to mind. Didn't Chris actually want all of them to speak, and they said zip. So they left, lol.

Yeah he isnt arrogant, he's just Chris.

Random: I did an i.t roleplaying assignment once and my characters name was Chatty Chris haha

actually here what comes to my mind is...

coldplay is a band comprising of 4 members....

so actually it is common that these differences arise...

who to ask.. first ...who.. to answer...

everybody will be having their own opinions...so they have to speak

and must also be given a chance too.

But chris is not arrogant..he is friendly and leads the band better.

he is really very frienldy with band members.

but in the earlier days they used to quarrel like chris slapping on will's

face during the recording of the blue room album in 1999.;)

But now the things and ways changed a lot...

I hope he doesnt, I think Chris Martin said it best with his interview prior to the Kool Haus concert when he says "I think id be shit if I went solo"

The third one is actually kind of......weird. Chris just seems so nervous and just blurts out random and fast statements. I just want to shake him and calm him down, lol
