In lion language, this is the look that says: You're the cat's whiskers.

Through the bars of his cage, Jupiter the former circus attraction stretches his giant paws around the neck of Ana Julia Torres and appears to plant a kiss on her lips.

"It is amazing to see an animal like that be so sweet and affectionate," says 47-year-old Miss Torres, who runs an animal refuge in Colombia.

Jupiter was rescued six years ago from a travelling menagerie in which he was beaten and starved almost to death. Since then, Miss Torres has seen a frightened and disturbed animal blossom into one of the friendliest creatures in her care.

She relies on donations and her own modest teacher's salary to run the shelter, Villa Lorena, in a poor district of the southern city of Cali.

Her work began more than ten years ago when a friend gave her an owl which had been kept as a pet. Today, Jupiter is among 800 creatures at Villa Lorena.

Miss Torres opposes exhibiting animals in circuses and keeps her shelter closed to the public.

"We want the animals to live in peace," she says. "All their life they were shown at circuses and shows - this is a paradise where they can finally rest."

I saw that on CNN :uhoh: That's cute and all..but what if the lion bites her head off??

He's got his eyes closed...which is a good sign....she's got a good egg there....he loves her.

 

However she has her eyes open.....what a fony! Someone should show Jupiter this picture so he doesn't end up working all day to give money to some "open eyed kisser" girlfriend who's only after his cash.

I reckon she's "lion" through her teeth.............................. :rolleyes:

I really believe what she said... unlike humans, the other animals cannot fake emotions... so this hug only could mean total gratitude and affection from the animal, that's really sweet.

Seriously though, that's cool. I'm deeply resentful of the way we exploit animals, and It's nice to see some good news mixed in with all the tragic stories of animal exploitation you hear so often.
