September 11, 2007 -- Britney Spears has no one to blame but herself for her disastrous performance at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night. The lip-synching pop tart showed up for her big comeback late, unprepared and with a drink in her hand.

On Saturday, the day before the VMAs, Spears was scheduled to arrive at rehearsal at around 1 p.m. Our spy said, "She didn't even get to Las Vegas until 4:30 p.m. It was ridiculous . . . The production people at MTV were freaking out . . . Nobody can tell Britney what to do anymore. No one can control her. She is a mess."

 

 

 

To make matters worse, when she arrived in Vegas, Spears didn't go straight to rehearsals.

"She went to her hotel room and ordered a bunch of food and some frozen margaritas," the spy said. "She came down, like, an hour later with a frozen margarita in her hand."

 

When Spears preformed on Sunday, she stumbled a couple times and couldn't remember the words she was lip-syncing. She covered her mouth at one point but by the end of the song had simply given up any pretense of singing.

 

"The dance number was spectacular - without her," said our spy at rehearsal. "When the stand-in was rehearsing with the dancers, in the hours they were all waiting for her, it was amazing. Then Britney showed up and refused to do anything. The dancers were supposed to lift and twirl her in the air a few times, and that just wasn't going to happen. The more complicated dance moves had to be erased because she couldn't do them."

 

Meanwhile, Spears was agitated because she didn't like the outfit MTV had selected for her.

"MTV wanted her to wear a corset outfit. It would have looked great and covered a lot of things up, but she hated it and didn't think it was sexy enough."

Instead, Spears changed into a spangly bra-and-underwear outfit she'd brought with her that emphasized her weight gain over the last year.

 

MTV execs weren't the only ones worried about Spears' impending debacle. Another spy said, "The dancers were texting pals, asking them to pray for them. They were worried." After Spears performed at the VMAs, she allegedly broke down in tears but then partied until 3 a.m. She changed outfits several times and again was photographed by paparazzi wearing no underwear.

Earlier this week he declared Britney Spears' career all but dead.

Now Simon Cowell has had a change of heart, vowing to help the troubled star regain her former glory.

 

Making public his offer to manage the mother-of-two along with his fellow American Idol judges, Cowell said: "We have decided we can bring Britney back."

 

"We are serious. We plan to buy her underpants, get her bigger shorts to perform in and get her away from her stupid friends."

 

"MTV ratings are up and all we're hearing is Britney, Britney, Britney! She can turn it around."

 

American Idol judge Randy Jackson chimed in, adding: "We'd love to take care of you, Spears! We will make you a superstar again!"

 

Spears left fans and critics aghast after a now notorious appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, where she mimed her way through the performance and struggled to dance in time.

 

Her new single Gimme More arrived on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at a No. 85.

 

Despite the disastrous appearance, the track is still expected to climb into the top 20 after its digital release in early October.

Family and friends fear that a judge's decision to award custody of Britney Spears's two sons to their father, Kevin Federline, will drive her to suicide.

 

 

But in keeping with much of her bizarre behaviour of late - the singer's first reaction was to make an trip to the tanning salon.

Britney's mother Lynne Spears is reported to be extremely concerned about the star's mental state, with one source adding: "We are all fearing for Britney and this will be the final straw for her."

 

 

Still, it was business as usual for troubled Britney and the first stop on the singer's agenda - after surrendering her boys Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James to their father Kevin's bodyguard - was a tan top up at Epitome, her favourite Bel Air salon.

The singer seen yesterday afternoon hours after losing her children. It was reported she had dinner at restaurant Nobu in Malibu

 

 

 

Afterwards she checked in to the Peninsula Hotel. But, as she made her way inside, two photographers got into a fight - which seemed to amuse the giggling singer.

 

Then, Britney paid a visit to the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Van Nuys, California, where she finally applied for a driving licence and took a written test.

 

 

The singer still has a valid licence in her home state of Louisiana, but since she has been an LA resident for years, she is required by law to get a Californian licence.

 

Jan Mendoza, information officer at the Department of Motor Vehicles explained: "When you make your home here, or take a job and you want to drive in California, you must apply for a California driver licence within 10 days. Britney is considered an unlicensed driver in California."

Last Friday, Commissioner Gordon banned both Spears and Federline from driving the children unless they had a valid California driver's licence. But on the weekend, Britney was allegedly seen driving her two children around LA without a valid licence.

 

She was already being investigated for the alleged hit-and-run and for driving without a licence in August, offences for which she was warned she faced up to a year in prison.

New York divorce lawyer Raoul Felder said: "She was driving without a licence with a child in the car."

"You can put aside the in and out of rehab, the shaving her head. But this? When a judge went out on a limb for her? There's no going back."

Federline's lawyer immediately went to an LA court and on Monday the judge ordered the singer's ex-husband to take charge of Sean Preston, two and one-year-old Jayden James from midday until further notice.

The order from LA County Superior Court judge Scott Gordon comes after Britney, 25, ignored the Commissioner's list of requirements of things she needed to do in order to maintain 50/50 custody.

She has failed to obey any of the other demands laid down by the judge: she didn't meet a drug counsellor; she refused to submit to drug testing; she didn't enrol in parenting classes; and she failed to sign the judge's order.

The judge also banned either parent from taking drugs or drinking up to 12 hours before caring for the boys.

According to celebrity website TMZ, Britney failed to meet any of the judges requirements.

The judge said Federline, an aspiring rapper, was to "retain physical custody of the minor children until further order of the court".

Stumble: Britney nearly drops Sean Preston

 

Her attorney, Sorrell Trope, told People magazine: "We weren't able to prove compliance with what the judge ordered. Specifically the judge ordered that by 10am Monday morning, both parties show valid California driving licenses. I've been unable to produce evidence of that."

The attorney added that another reason behind the s temporary custody ruling was "a claim by Mr Federline's attorney that she had not complied with a previous order the court had made about having a random drug and alcohol test. There's no evidence that she actually failed a test."

Britney has faced a barrage of criticism over her high-profile lifestyle, including court allegations that she was a "habitual and continuous" user of drink and drugs.

 

Last month a former aide told a hearing of the extent of Britney's drug abuse.

 

Her ex-bodyguard Tony Barretto, 27, claimed the singer had overdosed on a mixture of Class A drugs hours before her comeback performance in May and just weeks after leaving rehab.

 

Mr Barretto said Britney had taken cocaine and crystal meth with fellow troubled U.S. pop star Howie Day - with whom she was rumoured to have had a fling - and was "completely out of it. She was distraught, crying and looked so ill. We thought she was dying."

 

She later performed in Anaheim, California, but the gig was branded a shambles.

 

Britney was charged last month for allegedly crashing into a parked car and shortly afterward was seen in floods of tears after taking a drugs test ordered by the court.

 

The incident followed a disastrous week in which her lawyer and manager quit because they could not cope with her erratic behaviour.

Britney Spears nearly made a boob over the weekend when her chest made a bid for freedom from her low cut dress.

Spears' attorney Anne Kiley called for an emergency court hearing in an attempt to persuade the judge to allow Spears more time with her boys.

Kiley told the judge: "It is an emergency for a 2 and 1-year-old to be with their mother. I feel it warrants overnights. For a 1 and 2 year old it is developmentally and psychologically traumatizing to have their routine disrupted."

 

 

LA Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon initially said he saw no reason to change the terms of the child custody order during a pre-hearing meeting.

 

 

According to Us magazine, he said: “I think you are right. But at the same time this is a person who is dealing with challenges. And the challenges are substance abuse issues and emotional issues that could have devastating effects on the children."

Despite his reservations, Gordon ultimately agreed to allow the singer to spend one night a week with her sons after she made a personal plea yesterday, where she addressed the court in a "soft and respectful voice," according to one observer.

 

Spears, 25, caused a media frenzy when she arrived at court in jeans, a black satin top and sunglasses hours after the start of a hearing.

 

The Commissioner allowed Spears to keep her dark sunglasses on in the court room, saying: "I understand you have a medical condition." The condition was not disclosed.

Good news: Britney Spears, arriving in court yesterday, has been giving extended visitation rights in her custody battle with Kevin Federline

 

She lost custody of the boys last week to her ex-husband Kevin Federline after failing to comply with court orders for random drug and alcohol testing.

 

 

Spears had previously shared custody with Federline but is currently only allowed to see the boys during supervised daytime visits.

 

 

Dozens of photographers and camera crews swarmed Spears' white Mercedes as she arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court for the closed-door hearing. She told inquiring reporters: "I'm good, thank you."

 

She left about an hour later, but declined to make a comment. Federline was not present.

Spears' lawyer said the singer wanted her mother Lynne to act as monitor for the overnight visits. It was not clear whether the court granted the request.

The singer on Saturday was spotted driving with her children in Studio City, Calif, in her white Mercedes convertible, which was decorated with pumpkins on the dashboard.

A presumed court-appointed monitor was seated in the front seat, with her sons in the rear.

Britney Spears' parenting skills came under fire in court today, with life in her home described as “chaotic” and her needs put before those of her children.

Although the singer won the right to see her two young sons twice a week, a parenting coach said Spears frequently ignored the children and was not “child-centred.”

 

 

In her report, coach Lisa Hacker said although she felt Spears “loves her children and the children are bonded” to her, the star did not seem to have “child-centred” interactions.

• On celebrating Blackout's release last night: "It was kinda laid back, really. We watched movies, that's about it." They also munched on Famous Amos cookies and fried chicken, added Sam.
  
• Her favorite song on the album: "I really like 'Heaven on Earth.' I really like the producer. It's different than all the other songs." Interesting…that's one of our faves too.
  
• On the origin of the infamous "It's Britney, bitch" line: "Oh gawd. The producer told me to say that, I didn't do it. And that's how it came about."

This is where Sam interrupted with, "Let's talk about fun stuff," and the cell service cut out (guess that rumor about Brit's bad service interfering with her boys' visits has some truth).

And before Ryan could try and continue the fascinating conversation, Brit had hopped in the shower. But he plans on calling back. Stay tuned...

Britney Ordered to Pay $120K for Kevin's Attorney Fees

Britney Spears has been ordered to pay $120,000 immediately for ex-husband Kevin Federline's legal bills pertaining to their custody battle.

 

In making the ruling, L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon noted the "disparity between the parties income" and that "the vast majority of the ... litigation deals with [spears's] conduct."

 

On Oct. 10, Federline's lawyer originally requested $160,000 for fees.

 

California law states that either party has access to legal representation to preserve their rights, even if that means one person must pay for other's attorney.

 

CelebTV.com first reported the story.

 

Last week it was revealed that Federline grossed $7,436 in 2006 after business expenses. Spears, however, earns approximately $737,000 per month.

 

The two are embroiled in a custody battle over sons Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

Kevin Federline's lawyer complained in court Thursday that Britney Spears has repeatedly failed to respond to calls for court-ordered drug tests.

 

Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon that there have been 14 laboratory requests for drug testing and Spears failed to respond to eight of them.

 

Mr Kaplan claimed the singer lives in a "parallel universe".

"Mr Federline doesn't want to take these children out of their mother's life, but what are we to do?" Kaplan said.

Federline has temporary custody of the couple's two children, two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James.

 

 

Anne Kiley, Spears's lawyer, argued the previous court order was unconstitutional and Spears did not respond to the lab phone calls within an hour, as ordered by the court, because she was sleeping.

 

 

Kiley asked that Spears be given six hours to respond to the laboratory phone requests.

But the judge said time was not the problem and noted that Spears has lost telephone numbers and changed her telephone numbers.

 

He suggested Spears get a separate cell phone for lab-only use.

 

 

LA family law attorney Joel Schwartz, who has been following the case, told People magazine: "If Spears hasn't been following drug-testing procedures, ultimately the court could suspend all her visitation rights until she follows court orders."

Spears's court-appointed parenting coach has been critical of her mothering skills, which resulted in her visitation rights with her sons.

 

Spears "rarely engaged with her children [sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one] in either conversation or play," according to a report filed last month.

 

 

Meanwhile, Spears's judgement has again been called into question after she splashed out on two-seater sports model, despite the fact it's not particularly child-friendly.

The pop princess, who was photographed driving with Sean Preston on her lap last year, has been banned from driving him or his brother Jayden James, aged one, unless they are in child safety seats.

 

 

 

Perhaps she was considering this as she inspected the 4x4.

 

But Spears, 25 - whose single Gimme More is at No7 in the charts - must have decided it just wasn't her and plumped for a £120,000 white SL 65 model.

 

Onlookers might have been surprised she could afford to fork out such a huge amount after she was ordered to pay her ex-husband Kevin £110,000 legal fees for their custody battle over the boys. She already pays K-Fed £7,500 a month in child support.

But revelations this week perhaps show why Spears is not more angry about supporting K-Fed.

Spears's former assistant Kalie Machado has told how the 25-year-old set up a shrine to Kevin Federline after they split and also revealed Britney would regularly walk around her home naked.

Kalie reveals that Britney struggled to cope with the breakdown of her marriage, and as well as keeping her wedding dress in a case in the entrance of the home, also held on to Kevin's possessions.

She revealed: "Britney kept all Kevin's clothes and she would wander into his wardrobe and look at them. You could say it was a shrine to him - or to their marriage at least."

Kalie claims that during her marriage, Kevin was hardly ever home, leaving Britney alone with her sons and while she eventually filed for divorce, she was still desperate to win back his affection.

Kalie said: "She felt so unwanted and she's already insecure. It just made her crazy and depressed.

"She was incredibly sad and lonely while I was with her. I could tell she desperately wanted him back. She'd burst into tears when he wouldn't return her calls."

The result could be a massive blow to her custody battle.

The troubled singer has been ordered by an LA court to undergo mandatory testing but her ex-husband Kevin Federline claims Britney has ignored eight out of the 14 random tests.

A source close to Britney, 25, revealed today that one of her drugs tests has come back positive, but the source claims that she actually passed and the result was a false reading.

 

The couple are due back in court on Wednesday to discuss their ongoing custody battle over sons Sean Preston, two, and one- year- old Jayden James.

 

Under the latest court ruling, Spears is allowed to see the boys three times a week, but must follow an earlier order to undergo mandatory drug and alcohol tests and attend parenting sessions with Federline.

Britney Spears Raising Money for UNICEF

While Britney Spears battles for custody of her own kids, she wants to help the rest of the children of the world by auctioning off a signed copy of her latest CD, Blackout.

 

Spears, 25, has partnered with photo agency X17 to raise money for UNICEF by auctioning the CD on eBay.

 

"I think it's important to give back and with the release of Blackout, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to give the fans a chance to bid on something to help children everywhere," says Spears, in a press release issued by X17.

 

A rep for Spears didn’t immediately comment.

 

Spears, meanwhile, has children issues much closer to home. She and ex-husband Kevin Federline are embroiled in a custody battle over sons, Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

 

The singer currently has only monitored access to her kids on two occasions per week, one of them being an overnight.

 

Their next hearing is set for Nov. 26.

Britney Spears has been banned from driving her kids after a judge saw a video of her racing through a red light with the boys in the back.

 

The troubled singer, 25, was allegedly sending a text message at the time - and had to avoid oncoming traffic as sons Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, slept.

 

The ruling was made at an emergency hearing yesterday by the judge in charge of Britney's custody dispute with her estranged husband Kevin Federline, 29.

Banned from driving her kids: Troubled singer Britney Spears

 

His lawyer showed footage of her making an illegal left turn into oncoming traffic at a busy junction, the US website TMZ reported.

Britney has recently claimed that she sufferes from Attention Deficit Disorder.

Her driving ban is the latest in a string of traffic incidents.
