Hey Tnspieler (I think your name is Chris, right?), your previous avi was Eluvium, if I'm not mistaken. Can you recommend some of their music?

I'm waiting for TWDY's next album to be out. I wish I could get it over here instead of just downloading it. And is there any news on the next Explosions in the Sky album?

Haha, I've secretly hoped that someday someone would ask me that. He (it's just one guy) changes a lot between albums, but I would probably recommend starting with Talk Amongst the Trees and then moving to either Copia or Similes from there.

Copia is probably his best known because it's more regal and has a few popular piano based tracks (If you like his piano playing, "An Accidental Memory in Case of Death" is a lovely album of just piano".) Whereas Similes is the first album where he sings, so its a lot more structured and accessible than his previous albums.

I recommend sampling these before downloading/buying. If you prefer the sound of Talk Amongst The Trees, you'll probably love 'Lambent Material' and 'When I live by the Garden By The Sea'. The avi I had before is of his latest release: http://eluvium.bandcamp.com/track/static-nocturne which is pretty much an hour of static, distortion and water samples with piano occasionally mixed in. A lot of fans consider it his best project since 'Talk'.

To simplify things, I'll just post a track from each release that kind of encompasses the 'sound' of that particular album for you to leaf through whenever...

Lambent Material:

When I Live by The Garden and the Sea

Both of those band's latest albums should be about finished. Explosions In The Sky have hardly mentioned their next album at all, they only post something new on their website every few months and its usually just a show date. They've never gone this long without releasing something, so I hope we hear something soon.

Thanks a lot! I don't normally listen to piano kind of post-rock, it's time I started. I suppose he's the kind of musician who likes to put in 'natural sounds' into his recordings. The album artworks are pretty good too.

I listened to a few of those songs you've recommended, and All The Sails reminded me of The Album Leaf a little (at the beginning part). Sounds more ambient than post-rock, imo.

Thanks again! :nice:

I'm hoping that EiTS will play here for their next tour. I know they've come before, but I didn't know them then. TWDY isn't as famous, I guess.

Yeah, he's considered Ambient/Drone Post-rock in that he creates ambient music, usually with layered and looped guitar effects. This live clip is kind of an indication of that... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdzCnht_uxM]YouTube - Eluvium - Under the Water It Glowed[/ame]

If you want dramatic crescendo's of the EITS or TYDY variety, you

should probably look elsewhere (though he opened for Explosions In The Sky on a few tours) But he does create interesting textures that kind of splits the gap between Brian Eno and traditional post-rock.

Me too. I've always wanted to go to a real post-rock show, I like that they're usually in much smaller, intimate venues.

too bad you missed out.

I saw them back in May and they were so good!

I heard that there was a meet-the-band session after that, and the fans get to have their albums signed. :disappointed:

I'm not so familiar with their latest album though.

You're lucky, Mike. :wacky:

EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY TO RELEASE ALBUM NEXT SPRING. :bomb::bomb:

From their Facebook,

Hi Everyone,

We're pleased to announce that we'll be playing a bunch of shows in Europe in May of 2011. If you're interested in getting tickets please go to http://www.explosionsinthesky.com/shows.php.

Also, we don't want to say too much about it this early, but our new album will be coming out in spring 2011. We're pretty excited about it.

Thanks for caring.

Love,

Explosions

I can't wait! I hope I get to see them live someday!

So after a bit of a post-rock hiatus my obsession has returned with a vengeance (thanks to listening to Adam Young's favourite albums and songs, and his own post-rock stuff :|).

I would suggest some to you guys but I don't know what's already been mentioned. :anxious:

*checks out everything in this thread that I haven't heard before which probably actually isn't much*

Bump.

Couldn't find a TWDY thread.

Anyway, finally got around to listening to Tunnel Blanket. I have to say, I quite like it despite it being quite different from their previous.

Anybody else care to voice their thoughts about it?

Check out Collapse Of The Empire (especially their first two albums). More concise and upbeat than most post-rock I know of, but it's definitely quality IMO.

Depending On You from their first album, Systembreakdown (longest song on the album):

Title track of their second album, Find A Place To Be Safe:

I've been wanting to check out Collapse Under The Empire.

Tunnel Blanket was pretty good, but TCx3 is still my post-rock AOTY.

Do Make Say Think, Tortoise, and Explosions In The Sky are my favorite post-rock bands.

Still haven't pushed myself to listen to tctctc. I've been overly satisfied with The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place to actually get into any of EiTS's other music. :shame:

I think I should stop procrastinating and start listening to tctctc and Collapse Under The Empire. :anxious:
