How much do you want to stick to "the traditional way"?

Especially when you think of your future

Do you think it's important that people in 50 still write letters?Or that mothers still cook fresh food on their own?Or that people still buy Cds?Or that people still buy books?

I've been thinking about this quite often...

last time was yesterday when my mum was cooking food that my grandma ate in 2nd world war because they didn't have that much money....I asked her if she can tell me the recipe so that I can cook it on my own maybe for my own children...in general it's important for me to cook for my family when I am a mother...

that was jsut one example...

and now that I've written that I am not sure anymore whether there has been a thread about this topic or not....

I could be reading into this wrong, but I'll say it like I understood it.

I think it's important to not let the technological advancements the world is making fully consume your life. I don't know how much that makes sense, but it's like... to me it's very important that any kids I have are exercised and healthy. I don't want my children to spend all their time on the internet or computer games. I want my kids to spend time on them, for sure, the internet and computer games have both been great to me, but I want them to appreciate how good exercise is for them, and reading a book.

yeah I'm talking about this stuff....and I think the world is changing so much and I'm a bit afraid that things like books, healthy food and so much more just get lost...that bothers me for some reason...

my sister for example told me some weeks ago that they talked about that in school with the example of books and CDs....songs become digitized data for example---so, what will happen in 200 years when people want to find out something about our culture...? they just can't....well yeah maybe they can a bit...but it will be different from nowadays...People even find stone boards from more than a thousand years ago....so we find out what happened back then....I think it won't be that interesting and "easy" for people in the future...person x in the year 3000 will probably never find a book by person y in the year 2200---

i agree with you julia. i'm not very traditional it depends on whether i like sth or not.

as for cds they're just too expensive in my opinion so i usually download music. i still by book because i dont really like reading long texts in the internet.

i dont really buy microwave dinners and those things, i'm not a health freak but i dont like them. and they're expensive and i quite like cooking so i really dont need them.

so yeah it depends.

You are saying most people eat microwave dinners?:stunned: Then, I am def. old tradition.. The food I ate. I made it all by myself :nice:

I agree with you, Julia, about the cds and books. I love to buy cds and book so honestly I can't imagine what will happen (in my life at least) if in some years to come they're gone. Because now people could read e-books and download digital music.

When I went to a record store last week the man there said that it is possible that there will be no more cds in the future. In fact the record company already reduce their cd production. :( And I personally don't like keeping stuff that I really love (such as music and stories) in form of a digital files. They don't have a historical or personal value. It doesn't feel right for me..

And another thing is writing letters or sending greeting cards. Since people could send emails or use cellphones to send text messages, they stop writing letters and sending cards.

Here people prefer to send text messages than to call the person that they wanted to talk to. At special times like Christmas or New Year, it won't be a surprise if you received more than one text messages exactly the same, cause they just forwarded it and not bother to write a new one or a personal one. I think it's sad. :(

Sorry for the long post and the language. Hope you get the idea what I wanted to say. :)

Well, I'm not saying that....but I think in the near future people will rather buy food which you only have to put in the oven or the microwave etc than cook it on their own...

and I don't want to be one of them...I want to show my children how to cook a good meal...

Pot noodle?:P

I buy CDs only if I really like the music because I don't wanna spend all my fortune for something I'll quit listening after a month. And I still love the old style of music, you know, live shows, live orchestra and NO playback.

I prefer traditional food to any other. I can't cook, but I try to learn that so I won't be completely useless later in life. :) I've also never eaten anything that came out of a microwave because we don't have it at home and we, honestly, don't need it.

Sadly, the technology's making our lives "easier" and after a few years we won't know how to do some things that were obvious some time ago.

I still love writing letters (I've started doing it again after several years of not writing to anyone), there's just a lack of people who want to do it ...

i still buy books, cds and cook my own food. in many ways i am very thankful i was born when i was, just before the peak of the technological boom, so i'm not completely swept away with ipods, myspace, mobiles with countless features that allows you to communicate with everyone without moving an inch etc. it feels the world is getting more and more disconnected with each other despite all these new advances aiming to make things easier and save time (time for what - spending with family, which we never actually do because we are pre-occupied with whatever the new fad is - it's a viscious cycle).

i prefer the 'traditional' way (which wasn't that long ago) and hopefully it persists to survive in this technologically advancing world. it will with me anyway.

I really can't see the point of writing letters or sending postcards any more as these methods of communication have become obsolete, plus they are an unnecessary waste of paper.;)

Traditional way is not that bad,I mean if you learn to do the things like people did it in the past, you would appreciate it even more.

Is like you were a craftsman, cause everything you do in a "traditional way" or a old fashion is made with more passion.

Writing a letter is awesome, obsolete yeah but still awesome. All the emotion and the wait of knowing when the letter or response is going to come.

Oh man,I want to write a letter now..... too bad that my hand-writing sucks:rolleyes:

well i think it's good when the whole family sit around the kitchen table and eat a meal and discuss how school was and that sort of thing

more people are having babies out of wedlock...i'll try and avoid that but obviously it's not always possible...but i do like the idea of any baby i have to have both a loving mother AND father

i don't know where i'd be without my daddy :(

university doesn't mean you'll always do well in life with a degree anymore :(

i can't do much about that, it's the way the world changes and such

i just want job security in the future, something that i wont automatically get for obvious reasons

I need to learn to cook proper meals like my mum, i think it's essential and what with ready meals as someone has already said, it just seems an easy way out---i'm going to miss my mum's cooking and she's not going to be around forever so i DO need to learn because no other bugger will

i disagree. its much nicer to receive a postcard or a letter from someone than just an email in my opinion.

its great if you get on as a family. if you dont, dont pretent you do. theres no point in sitting together and pretending everything's ok when it really isnt.

i dont think its always better for a kid to grow up with a mother and a father either. its not something you plan apparently but if relationships go wrong you shouldnt stay together and you shouldnt do it for the sake of your kid either. many kids are suffering because they grow up with parents who constantly argue with each other.

Maybe, but who can really be bothered to write one?

Greetings cards are a different matter. People don't usually write much in those.;)

Well there's no point, because by the time the postcard is received, the sender is normally back home.;)
