NEW STARS ON COLDPLAY.COM

Featured Replies

If there are only 9 songs and the album is still 42 minutes long, then there must be at least 7 songs of 4-5 minutes or over.

not sure if its been mentioned before but soon as i saw "42" on the list i remembered that chris had listed "jonnys solo on 42" as one of his positives on the coldplay charity mug!

cant wait for the album!

I'm not the only one who immediately thought that, then.

As for the song titles...I really don't think it's fair to judge a song on it's title, no? Strawberry Fields Forever sounds like a crappy song title too, doesn't it? ;)

Exactly - no way to tell from just the titles. If people had been told the title 'Yellow' before they heard the songs they probably would have though they were a bit random too...

I think it's good that it is quite short. I liked X&Y but I did think it was a little too long and would have been better with a few less tracks...

2 independently released tracks!!!

Its not that i don't think the song titles are good, they just don't seem very coldplay-esque....

Although i guess they did say they were going to try new things..

Departure

I agree with im4dadevils. It seems like they're departing way too far from where they used to be. Compare the old track titles to the new ones - seems like not just growth or a revamp, but like it's a completely different band. The "!" at the end of Lost and Yes seem very My Chemical Romancey. "Cemeteries of London" sounds like a overused cliche you'd hear in a song by The Fray or Aqualung. 42 and Rainy Day are the only two titles that sound like they belong on a Coldplay album.

That sounds like a joke to me, lol. Leftrightleftright? HA..It really sounds like a literal joke, like they are trying to be funny.

TBH, I don't think that update is a serious one. lol Coldplay haven't lost their minds you guys! :laugh3: Buck up and laugh!

"If that means Eight thrash metal tracks and one ballad"? LOL "The band doesn't see it that way and I have to respect their integrity?"

They are sooo waiting for the stupid ass media to pick this up and report that Coldplay have gone nuts. I don't think Coldplay would enlist someone so different from them as an addition to their work.

Don't forget there are four of them. If one of them ever lose it, there are three more to make sure that crazy person doesn't throw them off, hahaa.

Leftrightleftright....

You guys have to be sleeping still! It's not for real. :p

And if it is, then clearly they've been slipped some drugs in their morning coffee! That's not their fault. :laugh3:

What about the 7th track?

what kind of names is it?

:laugh4:

and only 9 tracks ..

i mean.. like some of you have said..

sometimes the best is that there are only 9 tracks.. (the bests!)

than 12 ...with some innecesaty songs! (i wouldn't say... "bad songs" or that the songs "aren't good")

But only 9 tracks..

I'm thirsty of Coldplay!

I need More!

yay!!! so happy with the news!!! thank you prospekt- whoever you are! so so so so so so so so so so so so very very very very very excited for the new album, though i know it won't be out for a while. knowing their past albums, i'm sure it'll be worth the wait!

about the speculation about the songs/song titles, i don't think we can really tell or know what to expect (other than something good if not great- fr CP). i mean, how can you tell from the title of a song whether it'll be good? well, maybe from aqua's barbie girl you can tell that would be a bad song, but then again that song was a hit and CP sang it once (kinda). not that i'm even putting the two groups on the same musical level, but, what i'm saying is we can't really know. and besides, it's rare anyone ever says, hey, that song is brilliant, but that title sucks and now i don't want to listen to it anymore....point being- CP is awesome and the next album will be great!!!

did anyone notice that he said give or take 9 songs... but only had 8 listed?

what about fall of man or Solid Ground?

and i wonder which song is supposed to be the song "everyone has to hear before they die"?

Let's not get too judgemental now. I think we're getting a little carried away with nothing but song titles to go on, and they could always change. I am curious though about having two exclamations points in the same album. And 42 also, perhaps a hitchhikers reference. And I leftrightleftrightleft, I expect will be far more serious then some people think. Perhaps a politically-charged (but not TOO politically charged) song about war.

It does seem that the album, especially considering it's reduced length with be less boom-busting then the last two. More a relaxing bit of songs with a solemn and fun side to it...but definitely not over-hyped.

That doesn't mean though that we can't expect some amazing songs though...This is still coldplay and for all we know. "Yes!" could one day be voted "favorite coldplay song of all-time".

Okay, I confess I'm sounding as judgemental as the rest of you...butlet's not condemn it in anyway before we even hear what the songs are about. Yes! could be a depressing radio-head like piano bit and cemeteries of london could have us dancing. we just don't know.

personally, i don't care about the names until i hear the song, but this is very exciting... My biggest fear is the comment about thrash metal, hopefully they stick with a similar sound

Ewwww..... Yes! !??!?!

Leftrightleftrightleft sounds like a title for a radiohead song.

New songs titles. My own analysis

Sorry, busybeeburns, posting it here again apart from the poll topic in order that everybody could share opinions.

I think the names aren't so important. Take a look at one of the best albums in pop/rock history. The Beatles' Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Band Club. The name itself of the title song or pieces of it as "Being For The Benefit of Mr.Kite!"; "When I'm Sixty-Four" or "Fixing a Hole". That's not the point, it's the feeling of the music and the combined power of the songs.

Some people are criticising so much now based on primary information, not really thinking that maybe the titles enclose clues to the songs.

It's obvious that "42" relates to the Douglas' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as "Don't Panic" did. And if you read that, you will know that is the final answer to everything.

"Violet Hill" is the name of a street of London located in the City of Westminster. Is it a remembrance from that place? Or a clinic for the spirit which also in London? This and "Cemeteries of London" could be very expressing their love for London, as they brilliantly did with the homage that the video of "Fix You" represented.

"Poppy Fields" could sound as a weak title. But maybe it's ironic. Poppy Fields produce drugs as heroin or opium in countries like Afghanistan. A critic song to War today? Or is it related to "Strawberry Fields Forever" as the title could suggest?

"Leftrightleftrightleft" is one of the basic exercises while training for boxing. Knocking out song for something/somebody?.

"Lost" or "Yes". They have the mark behind because they are outstanding tracks from the rest?

"Rainy Day" is the perfect name for a closing track, and it's the last of the list. I smelt a red herring the first time I saw it!

The real question that should be out there, is why the hell in the list there are four names covered in black. Provisional names, maybe? I see no trace of "Bucket For A Crown", "The Fall of man", "Mining on The Moon" or "The Butterfly". These could be the names of the rest of the songs, or mybe a Hispanic name. What do you think?

I can distinguish some characters, in the covered names, so maybe if somebody photoshopped the note a little bit, characters could be differentiated, enforcing some scales of grey. Somebody is going to try it?

I heard rumours that the band is going to record in Spain again… but this time is not going to be in Barcelona. I can't tell anything else as I don't have strong confirmation on that.

I trust very much in the band, but specially with Phil Harvey, Dravs and Eno supporting them. I still don't know if it's going to be good but I believe it's going to be different and unexepected.

Just my thoughts. Your friend and neighbour

No problem for me.. it's everyone else you need to convince. Nice post ^ ;):)

I still think it's a joke, lol. A song called "leftrightleftright" and "Yes!" cannot be for real. :p

lunesazul2004, as much of a Coldplay nerd as I am, I have already photoshopped the track list hours ago as best I could, but it is still quite indistinguishable.

Poppy Fields....Don't the British remember the lost lives in WW I with the Poppy? Could that song therefore be an antiwar song? I hope so.

that or Chrissy has become a heroin dealer! :stunned:

LeftRightLeftRight... Fascism comes to mind. Would they be commenting on th ewhole Patriot Act thing? Oh, but they are Brits, they may not feel the sting of that damned stuff. To be polite about it. Still, it would be nice to have a voice about that in their music. The so-called Patriot Act. So. Like, if we oppose anything there, we aren't Patriots. Well, I would refer to H.L. Mencken about patriotism. BAH! I love my family, my friends, my employer, my hard-earned home, my cats, my LIBERTY, and as a Southerner, well, the national government can take care of itself. :-P

At least we have something to chew on now. Even if it does end up being fluff.:laugh3:
