NEW STARS ON COLDPLAY.COM

Featured Replies

I personally like the song names. They're different. If they were the same as so-called 'Coldplay names' then there would be people complaining that it's all the same and why can't Coldplay change? I'm just happy that we've been given this info. I can't be negative about it.

As for the length... Just because it's shorter than the rest, it doesn't mean that it will be too short. Razorlight's self-titled second album is only 35mins long, and it's a great album imo. Lots of albums are around the 40/45 minute mark, it doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Wow...its great to finally know something!!

I can't wait for it to be released. I also think that they wouldn't give everything away just yet...there are probably still some songs that they purposely didn't list on the site...hmmm....should be good!

What a pack of wolves you are!! try as hard as it might be to imagine if you saw the track titles of other coldplay songs before you heard them........Fix you (cheesy) great song.....yellow (are you kidding)........trouble(why?)......XandY (weird)........politik(what is that).....you guys have not even had a sniff of the song musically or the context in which these titles work....they are four very talented men with good heads on their shoulders....they know to an extent what they are doing....it will work, trust them!!!

I want to listen it, and than i can tell my opinion. We should trust in them. Okay okay maybe the cemeteries of london sounds a bit strange, but maybe that will be your new favourite song so...

Wait.

Khm. When I was talking about the song titles - I was referring to Poppy Fields & Leftrightleftrightleft. Can you imagine them in the song?

I mean - Poppy! Too Bloody Mary Poppins-ish, if you ask me :D

hey, not everyone bashed the new song titles. but full on agree with everything else you said (well, except for your thoughts on past CP song titles... :P). other than that, welcome :)

Everyone just calm down... remember how X&Y, Chris said that they were aiming for a 10 track album, with 5 tracks on each "half" of the album (X half and Y half)? Well, we ended up with 13 tracks on X&Y. Not to mention how many times the tracks were renamed on X&Y and AROBTTH. This album feels like it'll be more like "Parachutes" in the way that it will pretty much reinvent Coldplay from the ground up.

I'll admit it made me a little nervous to read that at first... but here's what I think.

"Lost!" is a great name for a song. The exclamation point for some reason seems overkill and reminds me of something My Chemical Romance would do, but hey - the title of the song leads me to believe it'll end up good. Ambiguity is Chris's strong point...

"Cemeteries of London" might be my least favorite title thus far. It seems so cliché. Maybe it will turn out different, but the title itself is bland and uninspiring.

"Violet Hill" is promising enough. Probably a song about losing someone and there being a really sentimental spot to Chris called "Violet Hill".

"Poppy Fields" is... well... I'll reserve judgment on this one right now.

"42" is by far the best title listed thus far, and the best candidate for album title out of all the tracklisting IMO. It is so abstract it could be basically about anything, but I'm going to grasp at Douglas-centered straws here and say it's about how skewed the meaning of life has become in today's society? Couldn't you just see the headlines... "COLDPLAY'S NEW ALBUM '42' DROPS AT #1". "'42' REASONS COLDPLAY STILL HAS IT".

"Yes!" is almost as disappointing a title as Cemeteries of London... but meh... whatever.

"LeftRightLeftRightLeft"!? NO! NO NO NO NO NO! This just REEKS of War on Terror propaganda! Not that I'm for the War on Terror, but I absolutely hate it when artists scream their political ideologies from the microphone. Songs like "A Rush of Blood to the Head" and "Politik" are political enough without bashing it in your face, which is why I love them. This just sounds like the lyrics will be something like "We all march in time/We're stepping to your beat/The hypocrites have won/And justice takes defeat", or something really cliche and generic like that. Please let this one get dropped. Please.

"Rainy Day" is the only title on the album to give me a real classic Coldplay feel. Why something as simple as a Rainy Day can do that, I do not understand. Keep it.

My pick for all the tracks... the one most likely to be a slow ballad is Rainy Day. The one most likely to be their first single is "Lost!". And the one most likely to be the best song on the album is "Violet Hill".

</overanalyzing>

Ah, and I'd also like to comment on the lack of Bucket for a Crown, Mining on the Moon, La Mariposa, etc. There's only one long blacked out title, so it looks like one of either Bucket for a Crown or Mining on the Moon got the axe already... I'd imagine it was MotM.

I don't think that the song titles means anything.. I'm totally agree with you Will...

poppy fields sounds like strawberry fields btw :laugh3:

I'm glad I'm not the only who had this thought

that's a good sign I guess :D

strawberry fields is a great song :nice:

hahahah sorry WCFAN!! im just a little excited. I'm actually glad that they are obviously pushing different territory, although critics will have a field day. I wonder if Chris even touches the piano....i mean this is supposed to be a 'harder edge' album......lets be confident though that they will soon say to eachother 'not good enough' and we will be waiting for an album even longer, tis the coldplay way.

it's all good muzztobecool :) i'm excited for the album too. i'm sure it'll be worth the wait. i'm scared to hear abt what the critics will say. i remember there was a really harsh review of x &y by someone fr the new york times ("the case for coldplay"), and chris martin said he and the band took it somewhat hard (or something like that - they certainly werent happy abt it). but whatever - knowing CP, the album will be really good if not great. i'm curious to how their sound will have changed (if at all)...:)

NEW STAR from Will in 1997

Sometime in 1997

Chris and I went busking in Covent Garden. It was probably the first incarnation of the band. We played Beatles songs and 'The Bear Necessities' and 'Mrs. Robinson'. We were moved on by the police (with only 20p in the hat) (which I put there)..

Wx

I was wondering when they'd put something up for '97! It's so funny and odd to think of Will and Chris (from THE biggest and best band in the world) to be moved on by the police like hobos. It's also funny that while Gwenyth was making 'Shakespeare in Love' and dated Brad Pitt, her future husband was a broke guitarist playing in a subway. :laugh3:

Yeah! :laugh3:

well he's some what but not broke guitarist!

nice pianist anyway.

I just read the last message from Sept 5th. Good to know they are back in the studios. But wow only 9 songs!!! I'm sure and HOPE it's gonna be more haha. I don't want to wait THAT long for NINE SONGS. haha.

Aw, that's sad the police moved them out.

anyone seen the Bigger Stronger video yet?

what do you think?
