hitler300307_228x310.jpgHero or villain? One in four Germans think Adolf Hitler's rule had a positive side

A quarter of Germans believe Nazi rule had its good points, a poll suggested yesterday.

They were asked whether they agreed that National Socialism had positive aspects such as 'the highway system, elimination of unemployment, low criminality rate and the encouragement of the family'.

While 70 per cent said No, 25 per cent said Yes.

The survey was commissioned by Stern magazine after a talk show hostess was fired for praising the Nazis' attitude toward motherhood.

Eva Herman, 48, said at a book launch that while there was 'much that was very bad, for example Adolf Hitler,' there were good things, 'for example the high regard for the mother' under the Nazis.

She later explained: "What I wanted to express was that values which also existed before the Third Reich, such as family, children and motherhood, which were supported in the Third Reich, were subsequently done away with."

Praising the 1933-45 Nazi dictatorship is taboo in Germany.

The poll suggested that those aged 60 or older had the highest regard for aspects of the era, with 37 per cent answering Yes.

Those who grew up directly after the war, now aged 45 to 59, were the least enthusiastic, with only 15 per cent responding Yes.

This would get more views in news and sport rather than in international.

Agree with the regime or not, there was more good than bad IN THE BEGINNING to take from the regime....as time progressed however, it became aparent that the regime was extremely evil. But the early years 33-38 or so, there was ALOT of good....why do you think an entire nation GLADLY allowed a regime such as the Nazi's, who were openly racist, to take power? because the majority of the population believed the good outweighed the bad.....

Im not defending the nazis, im just trying to explain why it isnt INSANE to think there was SOME good from them.....

Of course i would think that the majority of people who lived under the rule of the nazi's would have come to their senses during the final fall of the regime in Berlin when Hitler was basically damning the entire German population to hell for their failures....but i guess not

They murdered millions but they sure knew how to make good roads. I think that's the message here.

Stalin and his regime were responsible for FAR more deaths than Hitler and the Nazi's were and there is still a HUGE following in Russia....Hitler was a master deciever, and realized the best way to win over the people was to rebuild the infrastructure, create jobs, decrease inflation, increase wages...people loved him for it, and obviously some still do

are you defending hitler?

how did i know that was coming? No i am not defending Hitler, i am simply trying to show you the mindset of the people who DO defend Hitler....To be a true student of History, you have to look at it from an outside point of view....you cant go in Biased already or you will learn nothing, since you have already made up your mind...

again that doesnt mean that i agree at ALL with what the Nazi's stood for, im just saying i try and understand it as much as i can

errm... if it weren't for Hitlers final solution he may be known as a hero... but hitler used antisemitism and other racial prejudges... to bring germany out of the great depression.... which is remarkable as germany was the first out of the depression and they were second worste hit ^^

but hitlers final solution was put into action and its scary that people dont hate him... probly KKK members ^^

theyre scary 2 :\

i see what you mean, of course people who agree with Nazi ideals are obviously very disturbed.
