Cp.t-Amsterdam
Many people think that Chris Martin IS Coldplay, and Guy, Jonny and Will are like props, not really taking part in the spotlight. If you look at pictures of the band on google you will see that Chris always stands in front. And when they are giving interviews he is also always the one to talk the most. Do you think he is overshadows the rest of the band?
ItsRobin
Yes, I agree with you that he does take up too much spotlight. I hate how he's the only one talking in interviews most of the time.
alyssa
Nah. I mean, he is the frontman....
Space Cadet
I've always gotten the impression that the other three like having the option of not having to talk. As for the gossipy end of things, well, if you're going to marry an actress, there's not alot you can do about that... *grumble*
Darlene_Ihnfsa
i agree with alyssa he is the singer, the songwriter and front man, is normal that he be in front on pics or be most asked on a interview  change it to another band, all are the same  the singer is the most known and asked.... and yes don't see just this "nice" side, chris also have less privacy that the rest of the band members, you know, press chases him and his family. julissofine
Yes, being the frontman of a (very famous) band has its own consequences, good or bad. Not to mention that he's married to an A-list Hollywood actress and that he's the most good-looking in the band (for the media purpose of course, cause we coldplay lovers think that they all equally gorgeous, right?). Chris is also a talkative person, so being frontman suits him well imo. :) Nevertheless I also think that Chris has tried his best to put his band mates under the same portion of attention. I mean he did give the chance for the others to answer question or say something in interviews.
CRYSTAL
for any frontman in the world its a necessary thing to be in spotlight. and he's nothing different from it. But he is very good as a frontman without him things will not move because eventhough we're sad sometimes in life i think as he jokes and funny all the time and energetic in pushing up with songs and moves during concerts it makes us satisfied and thrilled with joy. i love him.
miss capa
I think the other Coldplay members like Chris taking all the spotlight becuase I've noticed in interviews, if Chris is asked a question and hands ot over to Jonny or whoever, they are pretty reluctant to answer. Although when they do answer, the answers are presious. Interviewer; So why did it (X&Y) take so long? Jonny: Well, we had to write some stuff. nevaehdreamz
That always happens in bands. But I'm pretty sure the other members are okay with not having the focus on them so much. Otherwise you'd see them attempting to change that. Often during interviews the other guys don't want to talk. You'll see Chris give them the opportunity and they just sit there. mc_squared
You'll probably find the others are perfectly happy for Chris to get the bulk of the attention, as they are free to get on with their own lives without all that unwanted press attention (e.g. when Chris was photographed asleep on that ferry).;)
Miha
I agree with most of you, Chris always puts the band in front, in interviews he only talks about the band, what they've done etc. As a singer, he does get some additional pressure, some more spotlight. But he's never egoistic, he always talks about bandmates in superlatives, puts himself down. So I think it's a great way to be a frontman, but not narcisstic. And it isn't his fault the press are always obsessed with the "frontman". That's just the way it is...................................there are very few bands in the history of pop music where all the members have received mega-attention - and by this I mean real bands, not manufactured pop acts such as Take That and Spice Girls.;)
cpfan50
I think all the others are quiet happy not to be in the spotlight and do all they can not to, which is not hard given Chris is frontman and married to celeb etc. I remember one of them - Guy I think - saying ages ago how they did feel bad that Chris shoulders all the heat from the paps/press etc but they no longer felt any envy towards his level of fame after seeing how horrible it could be for Chris and his family. Chris is always going on about how great the other boys are (esp. Jonny! ;) ) and how important they are, so I don't think you could say he was egotistical. He's never suggested the band centres around him or that he is the only creative force behind it. He's just the hyperactive one who does well in interviews! :laugh3:
yellowtalk
agreed^^^^ I believe as a front man there is a tendency to be in the spotlight. You also find that when there is an article about Gywenth they will say something like "the actor, married to Chris Martin, Front man of Coldplay". Chris also doesn't like talking about trappings or his wife in a interview about Coldplay, thats why he didn't like it when in Chile they asked him personal questions, because it just makes for a bad interview. Guy, Will and Jonny are given occasions to speak and they do speak up.
cumuluss
There will be no Coldplay without Jonny, Guy and Will. And people should finally get it.
Cp.t-Amsterdam
I agree with thefact that Chris is the frontman and that he of course gets all the attention, and it might be true as well that Guy, Will and Jonny likes not being in the spotlight too much. With all that being said, I still find it annoying that the general population of the world only really know about Chris. I feel that they all play their important, and unreplaceable part in the band and it just rubs me the wrong way that Chris is the only one people focus on... (although he is amazing :))
julissofine
Well....the general population of the world only know Coldplay by their hit songs like In My Place or Fix You. So they don't care too much about who's in the band, not like their true fans. And since Chris is the one who get most of the attention or spotlight from the media, I think it's normal if most people only recognize him. It is annoying, but it happens to any other famous bands and that's just the way life is. :) I'm glad and very thankful that with all the spotlight on him, he didn't become big-headed or a snob with a boastful mouth and act like a 'rock n roll superstar'. :pleased: He's still the same person as ever and I love him for that. :nice: (cmiiw though)
[email protected]
come on folks, we all know that coldplay is not a boygroup like backstreet boys! it's usual that the singer in a band takes most attention. just look at other bands like rolling stones = mick jagger u 2 = bono the beatles = john & paul oasis = gallagher, liam or noel the verve = richard ashcroft nirvana = kurt cobain ...need more examples? hello?? i mean what do you expect???? everybody who takes a closer look at their interviews can almost FEEL it that the other guys DON'T really want to say something. they do, IF THEY WANT and chris NEVER stops them!!! PLUS chris talks in agreement for all the band never only for himself, doesn't he? so calm down again and go and hug a kid today! ;)

WCFan
Chris is obviously more in the spotlight bc he is the frontman and i do think the mainstream media that covers Coldplay see Chris Martin as Coldplay, but i think anyone who knows music and bands and especially those of us who are mega CP fans know that CP=Chris Jonny Guy & Will, which is what is really important, and what is MOST important is that CP knows that they are a band and that each plays an integral part. it sucks sometimes to hear the media cover CP as only Chris Martin but we know and they (CP) know what's what... miss capa
I get really upset when I see photos of Chris and Gwyn, not cus I'm jealous() but because I know how horrible it would be to be photographed all the time. I know there are days where if someone ran up and took a picture of me, I would have punched them. I still get excited when the other band members speak up, cus they always have very interesting things to say.
