I used to love Coldplay but now I don't

Personally, I like Radiohead, but they're more of an aquired taste. I have heard them since their start; missed quite a few years in-between, and started listening again. As for creativity they're great, but not as good a listen as Coldplay, or the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. (and, I just can't imagine Radiohead being top rated on the internet! Are they really that good, or just so different that listeners are drawn to them?)

*bites tongue*

I don't think you can even begin to compare RHCP and Radiohead.

....umm I'll leave it at that because I don't want all the pop-music lovers to jump all over me.

Looks like we have alot of Coldplay turned Radiohead fans on the forum. Its funny for most of us it happened before In Rainbows instead of because of In Rainbows.

True....I think I would have found out about radiohead much much later if I hadn't come to coldplaying--I saw a lot of people talking about them and I was in the store once and saw OKC.... now I just remember those long train rides through the mountains of france that winter spent listening to that one album on my ipod....

uhmm....your opinion.

No offense or anything though.

ive got to admit that i fall more into the category of "because of in rainbows"...though i also "found out" about radiohead through this forum as well. i mean, i knew about them and everything, but it was this forum that made me check them out. initially (like last year :\) i wasnt that impressed, although i really respected it all, and i felt like i just didnt "get" most of anything beyond the bends. but in rainbows made me re-check them out, and now im in LOVE.

and chuck: i agree theyre definitiely an aquired taste, and i have to say that i originally thought most people went for them mostly because they were off the beaten path, but i now think theyre incredibly talented, almost geniusly so. of course, we've all got our opinions, but comparing RHCP and radiohead...? wow.

^You know, Radiohead are just undescribable...yes they are off the beaten path, which is partly what makes them so brilliant, nobody can ever be like them (so no comparison with rhcp). They are complete amazing genius. A lot of people talk about how they weren't enthralled right away but I don't know....I was.

(ever notice how rh (radiohead) + cp (coldplay) = rhcp? :P)

Radiohead are cool, and a little weird but still cool

Radiohead is too weird.:ears:

Ah, Chuck...give them another chance. I found them a bit too strange at first, but after a few listens and an open mind, I fell in love!!

We, legally they can't be called Coldplay...so;

True, true....

You will get burnt out on any group you listen to on a constant basis. I listen to alot of different music but Coldplay will always do it for me as my favorite!

I think the thing with Radiohead is that they write music like magic eye pictures.

If you've never seen a magic eye picture before, it's just going to look like a bunch of gobbledygook- colourful, repeating, chopped up images that aren't very impressive.

If you realize that you need to learn how to look at it in a completely different way, you're rewarded with an incredible amount of depth in a way that you wouldn't have expected.

The same thing happens with their music- you need to listen to it a few times with an open mind before it 'pops' and transforms into something else. Of course it's an aquired taste; something with that complexity couldn't possibly be appreciated on the first listen.

And I think that's why so many people move from Coldplay to Radiohead. Coldplay found a way to let people hear the end product of a Radiohead-style song without going through all the effort. It's easier to see a magic eye picture when you know what you're looking for.

And Briggins- I still want to know what you think of my idea- don't know if you saw it back there or not.

Yeah I saw it, and I went to grab my mp3 disc with those songs on it but couldn't find it :(

I dont think we have anything to worry about. How you see the world is their latest full fledged song they have released. When i first heard it i was blown away. How fluid the chorus is but how un-coldplayish will plays the drums and the whole rock bit at the end. It just shows progression and willingness for new things. That plus Eno will make a good album.

Suddenly I have the impression that this explains a lot. :laugh3:

Well, listen to Parachutes and pretend later stuff doesn't exist, at least. Much healthier than starting a thread like this.

Though I have enjoyed the conversation, actually. This will be an interesting thread to come back to once lp4 is out and everyone's thoughts have changed again. :nice:

p.s. check your pm's...

I know what you mean. I still love the old Coldplay, from the previous two albums, who just made pure, fair, beautiful songs. But I'm dissapointed in them since X&Y. Badly.

How far back can anyone go? Are there any recordings of the Super Poofs? (sheesh, & what a name to pick for your first one!) Initially, I thought the only thing good off of Parachutes were their recognizable hits; listening to them all, I can see how many great songs never hit big in the charts! (Really fascinated with high speed at the present)!

Bah, humbug!!

Even U2 had a slump or two (more like: fans "got sick of me" as Bono had put it..) - they'll bounce back - it takes some time to come up with new material (provided they're not scooping from other bands!):laugh3: Oh well, the Beatles did it a lot too...

Something like that happened to me like half-year ago. But I after hearing "A Rush of B-Sides to Your Head" the love came back :D

ooooh...that was a great way of putting it......

I was reading this thread and I decided to put on A Rush of Blood to the Head just because I haven't heard it all at once in a long time. I too have felt my Coldplay-love drifting to other artists (once again, Radiohead like a lot of people) but I'm still holding out for their next album. My expectations are ridiculously high though... after 3 years and all this so called new sounding material (especially the quotes about it being the album to remember them by), they better deliver.

I would read this thread but I think it's a bunch of whining.

Well you're certainly not wrong there!
