Canada - The Worst In The World?

(I received this email from the Green Party of Ontario, and felt I should share it. Canadians and non-Canadians alike are invited to sign the attached petition.)

Canada the worst in the world?

An urgent request to sign a Climate Change petition from Ricken Patel one of the founders of Avaaz.org.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear friends,

Right now, a major UN summit in Bali has just a few days left to hammer out an agreement on stopping catastrophic climate change. But instead of helping out, Canada is actually sabotaging the UN talks! On Saturday, experts gave us the global "fossil" award for being the worst country in the world on climate change.

There's still a few days left to save Canada's reputation -- and the climate -- but we need a massive democratic roar to remind our Prime Minister what Canada is all about, and stop him from blocking the world at Bali. Click below to sign the petition and we'll advertize the number of signatures we get in an ad campaign across Canada this week. Our goal is to get 25,000 people to sign in just 3 days before the ads run. Click below, then forward this email to all your friends and family right away:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/another_canadian_climate_crime/4.php

Enough is enough. Prime Minister Harper's short-sighted, undemocratic and big oil-driven policy on climate change is damaging the world and destroying our image as a good country. We're supposed to be the nice guys, who try to do the right thing in the world.

The vast majority of Canadians are hopping mad on this issue -- we can win this. We just need to show Harper how serious we are that he change course. Sign up now and forward this email to everyone you know - we've got just 3 days to hit 25,000 signatures!

With much respect and hope,

Ricken Patel,

Avaaz.org

Hmm, I'm staying out of this one...for a change.

They are using the IPCC report to draft the new agreement and it's not a valid framework. Not scientifically either.

(In my opinion of course)

So much for me staying out of this.

^...and in working out a deal regarding greenhouse emissions in Bali, we've just alligned ourselves with them...hmmm...

Much as it pains me to say it, the US had to push Canada to be a part of the deal. As a people, we care about this planet, but our Prome Monster is so backwards...it's no wonder he and Bushy get along so well, lol.

Yea!!; the US is no longer the worst!! Happy Days are Here Again...:laugh3:

(and President Gore, Nobel Laureate and winner in 2000, gets credit for telling yet another inconvenient truth!!):P

Get to work Canada. It's time to take the moose by the horns, and super-insulate those houses! You're falling behind US, the most wasteful and decadent nation on earth!!:P Listen to your mounties - I can hear their horses winneying!

They're dressed in wool, and all spiffed up - that's the image Canada has to uphold - best dressed winter nation on earth & all bundled up properly! So don't let US overtake you!!:laugh3:

America is a continent.

America is worst :P

Listen you Island Occupant you! :P This is the United States of America; Sure, soon we'll be just America when we fuse with Canada, Mexico, and whatever else is south of there, but for now, we're still these United States. And besides, we're not bad :shifty:- just run by a bunch of thugs :whip::smartass2:who won't let change happen more than at a trickle rate. That will all change pretty soon.:sunny::sunny::sunny:

so there!:P:P:P

So we might be currently run by an unelected governement, who has signed over pretty much everything to the EU.

She's mostly just a figure-head, but love for the monarchy still runs deep in most of our older citizens. (Scary!)

Huh? Darn that EU! We're the bigger blob! How dare they do that!! Well, just for that, we're taking Iceland and Greenland - and just try and stop US! (We're running short on water - sorry, but we had no choice..):P

Clean Burning Cola..

Hi Tracie!!:)

I was only stating the facts, ma'm. Sure, you're the Saudi Arabia of the North with all that oil sand, but isn't that kinda counter-productive to.. Oh, now wait - I get it! You're going to warm the globe up faster than our crazies are, and then when the US becomes a hot, un-inhabitable desert like Death Valley, Canada will be the only place left to live in (outside of Greenland and Siberia).. Smart!:laugh3:

So Steven Harper is heading you back to the grand old days of steam trains:rolleyes:? Hmm.. Faster than our illustrious grand wizard is??

I'm amazed!

BTW David - that's a beautiful photo of the Queen! Maybe she could run the US for a while, if she's not too busy.. Our current Pres. is out-to-lunch in so many ways...

Yes indeed. Back to the age of steam trains. But you know what's used to make steam? WAter. And once you guys dry up like Death Valley, We'll be the ones on the continent with all the water...I await the invasion.(And I'm only half kidding aobut that, lol.)

In case anyone's interested...

I received this in my email today...I'm a happy little Green at the moment.:)

WE WON!!!

Wow -

This morning, in a massive U-turn in the 11th hour of extended negotiations, the Harper government finally dropped its opposition to 2020 emissions targets among Kyoto countries , and a climate change agreement was reached in Bali!

Over 110,000 of us came together over the last 4 days and added our voices to a wave of popular outrage - we supported the ads that ran in Canadian papers and at the conference in Bali, called Harper and our MPs, and built the strength of the petitions, events, banners, and marches at the summit. And it all worked!

Click the link below to see a video message from Liberal leader Stephane Dion at Bali - Avaaz is a non-partisan group and the NDP and Green Party also deserve credit for opposing Harper, but Dion had an impassioned comment for us:

Avaaz.org/en/Canada_Wins

Lots of factors helped make this happen, especially a strong resolve and pressure from other countries. In teaming up with people around the globe to save our climate - including over 600,000 other Avaaz members who pushed their governments - we've defended Canada's proud tradition of doing the right thing in the world. The struggle is far from over, but this weekend is for celebrating!

With much joy and enormous respect for everyone who signed, forwarded, donated, called, lobbied and pitched in,

Ricken and the Avaaz team

I posted the following somewhere else online before the last post here made by Tracie...

It seems that the huge push to agree on a mass reduction of human activity produced CO2 (and a global carbon tax) is going forward, day by day. Now, it feels like the whole issue of gaining Americas Neo-con (plus others) support is building up to some sort of battle - between "global warming" religion type groups and the folk currently against the UN/IPCC based proposals.

It's quite possible that this battle/obstacle is engineered.....

So - Consider that most people (in UK from my experience) believe 'man made' global warming is the problem - and groups like greenpeace/friends of the earth do get large public support on this.

Now, if/when a mass CO2 reduction treaty (and a sly carbon tax) is agreed it will feel like a win for the PUBLIC....and a loss for the big governments/neo-cons.

When in reality it's a victory for the Powers That Be/NWO that was fought and won by the 'people'. Then we will see "WE DID IT!!" headlines.

Just a thought.

Then if you look....at...

WE WON!!!

Scary not knowing who's side you're fighting for. I agree the people are misled...from all sides. It's hard to know who to trust. (Even I suspect Mr. Gore.)

As I've said before, Global warming in and of itself is not a problem. The planet has been warming and cooling for billions of years. But the science behind the damage we've done, which is being escalated by warming, is irrefutable now. Big Industry is obviously going to use that science to its advantage, just as the drug industry profits from cancer. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking for a cure.

I don't know if that makes sense outside my own head, lol.

Yeah, I do know what you mean. It's something which I spend time pondering over myself.

Mr Gore would have been president in 2000, if it hadn't been for Bender setting fire to some of the voting slips :laugh3:

He saves the world with scary lasers as opposed to scary slide-shows.

I should keep quiet
