well, let's be honest.

they're quite alright.

the worst thing about them is their fans actually.

they're hysterical little girls that can shout your ears off!

but... i've got to admit they probably have a few decent songs.

and... i like the fact that they're famous in several parts of europe. makes me sorta proud. lol.

i mean they got to play a concert in israel, which is in my opinion slightly amazing.

Not exactly about suicide, but Hurt by Nine Inch Nails is about self-inflicted pain...

I Hate Myself And I Want To Die - Nirvana

There's also a song with the lyrics "I want to put my head around every noose I can find" but I dont remember the song title. It might have been another Silverchair one, they've done a few suicidal songs back it old days including Suicidal Dream as Knight Of Cydonia already said.

is it by Gary Jules?

also, For Blue Skies, but I dont know the artist. will search for that later.

Actually, I think it's Michael Andrew featuring Gary Jules...sory to ignore you, Gary!

^It is Gary Jules... he recorded it especially for the Donnie Darko soundtrack, and used it on one of his albums later. (Awesome movie, btw... the song totally gives the ending it's meaning...gave me shivers first time I saw it.)

edit: Ok, after some research, Michael Andrews sometimes gets credited with the song because he wrote the rest of the movie soundtrack.

^Google LIED TO ME!!!

What else is new. :dozey: :laugh3:

^True.

Has anyone mentioned I Can't Stand Losing You by the Police?

And somewhere in half the Smiths' reperpoire, Morrissey refers to wanting to die, lol.

ah, don't even start talking bout their fans :D on a slovene forum there are thousands (well, more like tenfolds i guess ) of girls that soooooooooo adore them  and are little silly emos that don't even speak german :dozey:

well, i don't speak it either, so i won't say anything bout their songs ... they might be ok.

My sister is a fan of theirs (that's why I know the song), but she hates all those stupid little girls.

And I had forgotten one of the bests : Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

"Just killed a man : put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead."

"I don't wanna die, I sometimes wish I've never been born at all"

Whaaa...?

I've heard of them- never anything negative. Just a cool underground sort of thing here. Didn't know they were German.

And um... try apologising for the likes of Celine and Avril for years... or how about Sum 41 and Nickleback. All Canadian.  One band... no big deal. :laugh3:

alright.

but there's bilions of canadian bands that are just superb!

such as The Most Serene Republic, Broken Social Scene, Stars, etc pp!

Ok off the top of my head

Not No Suprises (thats about retirement and its lack of expectations)

Bad / Running to a stand still - by U2 are very powerful songs not about suicide but self destructive people.

Radioheads - Pyramid Song for me is interpretated as a suicide

Snow Patrol's - the finish line - should be what your looking for

Billy Joes Daugter - Stereophonics

suicides pretty easy...no surprises and videotape by radiohead spring to mind right away. the first has a sarcastic feel to it and the second is just plain depressing. I know Stephen G above me disagrees and I did at first too (At first I thought the chrous was "no one loves a no surprises")... But I don't see how you get past the lyrics "a handshake of carbon-monoxide".

Coldplay's Amsterdam makes references to being rescued by a friend when in either a suicidal or very low state.

Umm...out of left field, I recall blink 182's "adam song" is an anti-suicide song if you're into them.

Hmmm. Interesting. I always assumed the noose was metaphorical, but maybe not.

i always thought "Amsterdam" was about suicide, too.

but didn't Chris claim it wasn't?

ah, i cannot remember anymore.

oh, and for the record HIM - "Join Me (In Death)"

Really great song...

I don't think it covers it, but I think I read before that Jeff Buckley wrote Grace (song) it was when he was going through a weird obsession with death.

In response to the amsterdam discussion. I never felt that the song was supposed to be about suicide or that the noose, ball and chain etc. weren't metaphorical (there is actually a video on you-tube that goes that road though). What I am saying is that it's only coldplay song I can see fitting into a discussion on suicide...not because that's what I personally feel the song describes or is about...but because the mood of the song relates closest to the topic at hand.

i prefer the original, by Johnny Cash ... NIN singer has a strange voice imo.

Actually the johnny cash version was a cover, Trent Reznor from NIN wrote that song ahh that song was my anthem back in 94' *goes to listen some NIN*
