Music Recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm an avid music lover and I'm constantly trying to look out for new music out there. I love coldplay but my taste is very eclectic, but mostly in rock, alternative, indie, hard, classic. I wanted to know you guys had any recommendations for any new bands to check out???

I'd like to share one i found on myspace the other day. They're called The Black Summer Crush. Not many people heard of them, but I’m going to head out to one of their shows to check them out. If you like to see a blend of the Beatles with The Who and Jimi Hendrix, they’re a band to check out

^ Yeah listen to Blackbud! They're awesome.

The latest news Brigs is that they are recording sessions for album 2 in various studios.

The band post updates and more videos on the forum they have on the site: http://forum.blackbud.co.uk/

Cool. I like the bottle instrument.

I was listening to their album and EP there again last night, almost forgot how good it is.

Anyone ever heard of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet or LAGQ? their kind of different, using only guitars to get the sound in their songs. Check out Guitar Heroes, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAGQ

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

WINTERSLEEP!!! :nice:

I've heard of Wintersleep, maybe now Ill check them out...

I'll make a list of awesome and not well-known bands i love :

The Mars Volta : their second album Frances The Mute is for me the best album in this third millenium.

Porcupine Tree (their 3 latest albums In Absentia, Deadwing and Fear Of A Blank Planet are really great)

Archive : they've been doing many different styles, but for your taste, I guess both albums You All Look The Same To Me and Noise are really nice.

Venus : check their Vertigone album and you'll love me.

Emilie Simon : she's not very famous, but she's the best French artist these days. All albums are great : Emilie Simon, Music from La Marche de l'Empereur and Végétal (my favourite from her).

the perishers (specially the album let there be morning)

big japan (music for dummies)

i'm sorry. The mars volta sucks

i'm sorry. The mars volta sucks

:o

Either you're deaf, or you'r Evil (with a big E).

Off with your head, man !!

Maybe you should listen to the First Mars Volta Album De-Loused in the Comatorium, listen to the song Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)... Only then can you say you don't like the artist.

And their second album Frances The Mute is one of the most brilliant albums I've ever heard.

Try: Transmission

Exit Calm

Mourning Becomes Electra

The Boxer Rebellion

Ride

Yeah, Blackbud is a very good band. Just skimmed through the thread and people have posted some great bands and music. Theres also some which are listed that I've never heard of, which I probably need to check out pretty soon. Thanks!

And if you like bands like Interpol, The Killers, etc, you should really check out Aberdeen City.

This is the kind of thread I always end up discovering new music from.... it's the best thing about the "long tail" and music.... before u had to read in a magazine or hunt around in a record store to find something cool -- which made the choices always subject to the "gatekeeping" of editors and music store buyers and etc... -- which would lead inevitably to mediocrity and the prevalence of "poser music" -- i.e. stuff that you want to like because you think it's cool, not because you really like it. Music journalism especially creates high-profiles for really lame stuff, because journalists are always looking behind their backs, trying to profile something that they think in 2 years people will think they were cool for liking "way back when".... I GREATLY prefer the democratic nature of threads like these, where people simply list their tastes and you can just look something up on itunes or youtube and check it out for yourself....

These days I'm really into techno and techno/rock and stuff like that -- try searching for these songs:

Thomas Falke "Revolution On The Dance Floor"

Groove Cutter "My Shooter"

Control One "Just A Little Bit"

Ian Carey "Redlight"

Kevin Weg "Dead Radio"

I don't usually go for techno but these are sort of like a wierd crossover between rock and techno/trance.

Here are also some downloads with some other cool stuff too -- http://www.electricfilebox.com/tracks

I don't like Mars Volta either. Sorry but their music has no form of organization and it sounds like random eccentric jamming with nonsensical poetry lyrics that only the band members themselves could understand.

I highly recommend these bands:

Porcupine Tree

No-Man

Blackfield

nosound

Pure Reason Revolution

Marillion

The Pineapple Thief

Mew

Elbow

Katatonia

King Crimson

Nektar

Camel

Hmmm lets see...right now I'd recommend:

!!!

sissy wish

neon neon

dEUS (new album is good)

the national

minus the bear

josh ritter

friendly fires (I'm really liking their song paris)

the teenagers

foals

devotchka

chromeo (it's like listening to what should have been the back to the future soundtrack!!)

cut copy

There're a lot of good stuff here ! I have to check some of them.

I'm a big fan of Archive ! They're just awesome !
