The word like

Featured Replies

I hope to never hear the word "like" again. For the full bus ride home, it was just me and two other random girls. Unfortunately their speech was completely saturated with the word like.

They seriously said like before, like every thought and like they had to tell the story like really loud. And like now I know all about like what happened at school and how like this one guy Sebastian wanted to like meet them like in the hall.

Frig it was brutal. I could feel that super frustrated feeling inside of me building up. I almost told them to shut up, and I almost just got off the bus.

I recorded part of the conversation on my mp3 player (yeah I'm a creep), just so I could calculate their LPM (likes per minute). In a 22 second recording I counted 7 likes, which is far too many per minute.

So please please please if you have to tell a story do not use the word like between every thought or somebody like me will almost become a murderer.

I like adore this convo. It's like the awesomest way to talk like ZOMG!!! :stunned:

Once I had on msn a girl who used to say like all the time.

I guess guys are more allergic to this "like" than girls. No wonder.

Like chill out Briggins, you're totally like overreacting about the word like. Like if I wanna say the word like after like every few words then I can without someone like you murdering me.

Actually I'm with you. I also hate the overuse of 'right':

"Right so I was walking down the street, right and this guy right he came right up to me, right and was like 'hey woman you're sexy' right. And I was like 'right you douchebag, get lost right'. I mean who did he think he was, right?"

ick. i say like only very occasionally. i hate those girls that use it in between every word.

but what i really hate is when people say "you know what i mean?" after every thought. i want to tear out my hair. unfortunately, chris martin does it. i suppose we can never get married now. *sigh* :P

Right!

I just don't like overhearing people that somehow make your IQ drop just by listening.

Just console yourself with the fact that you're not an idiot and have an excellent grasp on the English language and then think of the many hours of their lives will be wasted if you added all the pointless uses of the word 'like' together :idea2:

Haha, well I know I don't have perfect English or anything. And I don't have the most exciting voice. But I know I don't overuse some words like some people do.

I think those girls waste around 25 hours per day using the word like.

oh, I fortunately never heard anyone saying "right" 150 times per minute. I guess I'm lucky! :idea2:

Yes you are lucky. You will probably live a longer life because of lower levels of stress.

^ :laugh3:

But the word 'like' is more annoying...

That wouldn't be bad at all  But there are some words that make me annoyed.

Weird usage of English words makes me throw up.

I agree with you.

Is there any suitable word can replace 'like' in "They seriously said like before, like every thought and like they had to tell the story like really loud. And like now I know all about like what happened at school and how like this one guy Sebastian wanted to like meet them like in the hall"

I think NO... They NEED to use this annoying word.

But we should try to minimize the usage like... once in a minute...?

For Brigs:

LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE :P

It must get annoying init

It's been a long day and it isn't over for me, I have to go back to the pub later as I'm locking up tonight

*pulls out LPM meter*

I like this thread !!

^^ oooh, that's sneaky!

I really hate those words that are repeated frequently. In Czech, I guess the top-used-word would be "vůl" (in English sod, nit..).

Mostly guys use it, about five times in a sentence. It's horrible.

My brother says 'init?' after EVERY question sentence and it just makes me want to go "YES IT IS!! SAY ISN"T IT NOT INIT!!!!"

Rage is hard work...

finnish teen idiots use the word "fuck" at least 3 times in a sentence.

"this fucking phone is so fucking annoying 'cause it's not fucking working, FUCK!"

My friend did that once and I just hit her back with "Yeah like, What the fuck??" and it shut her up for a bit :laugh3:

 I'm from near Newcastle in the UK, if you know anything about the people who come from there, they're called "GEORDIES" and they say "LIKE" at the end of every sentance.

One place you should NEVER EVER visit.
