What does Chris use for distortion

Featured Replies

I know Jonny uses a RAT and a Tonebender Colorsound, but what does Chris use. He gets a nice mellow distortion a lot when he's playing rhythm, but as far as I know he doesn't use any pedals; does he have a rackmount unit?

They record in large culverts..:P Or, Chris uses fun-house mirrors for distortion.. (oh wait - sound, not optics)..

Umm.. Reverb some, but do they use distortion? It's probably all synth stuff - midi.

I'm pretty sure fakfak is talking about songs like don't panic, moses and one I love from the AROBTTH era.

Yeah, I guess he doesn't use it so much anymore, but I was talking about those songs from the AROBTTH era you mentioned. Back when he was using the Ric 360, he seemed to always have some type of distortion on it.

Set you volume low.

Play hard, very hard.

It works for me to get that sound.

Which brings up an intersting point as well. Jonny's amp (Fender Deville) is pretty visible live, but I guess I've never noticed Chris's amp or heard what kind he uses?

In the old days Chris used a Fender Twin. Now (at least before the current tour) he also uses a hotrod 2x12. (Jon has 2 onstage and a 3rd hidden for FOH refrence tone). When I saw them in Chicago, there was what looked to be an Orange Cab next to the television set at the back of the stage so perhaps chris uses them now...
