I would do a poll asking which in your opinion is the best music magazine, but to include all the music magazines available in the world will take forever.

The question is rather simple, which music magazine in your opinion is the best? And Why?

Not NME... the journalism is over opinionated indie loving tosh. Arctic Monkeys being the only good band of all those that try to sound as much like the AM as humanly possible.

Q is my pic, its balanced its got a lot of insightful articles, it covers classic rock and modern carefully and it gives credit where its due. It is however prodominatly british.

I'm so lucky I have a store that sells Q and Mojo here since I think most North American mags are shite, lol. Q would definitely be my favorite, than Mojo and Uncut (Uncut mostly for the freebies, lol).

I like NME but I understand why Brits probably hate it...it's like your Rolling Stone, I'm guessing. But for a non-Brit it's a good way to keep up on ne3w music.

My dad always gets the German magazines "Musikexpress" and "Rolling Stone" every month. My favourite one is "Musikexpress", because it's not as shitty as NME. The journalism is fair and the reviews about new records are very good.

i read rolling stone pretty religiously. i like the way that they write and i like their politics, but sometimes i think their features/cover stories could be better chosen. it is my bible, though, just because it's the most comprehensive, reputable, and widely-available music magazine in the US. i like my sources to be rock-solid.

i also really like Q, but it's damn expensive over here. i only buy it when there's a decent-sized article on a band i love. i wish it was more affordable. Mojo's great too, but i haven't read that in a long time.

other than that, i get this indie music/movie/book magazine called paste. i like it because it's pretty unpretentious and they don't think they're the shit just because they know of bands you've never heard of. they also have alternate perspectives on more mainstream bands, but it's good for opening up new tastes and reading about artists before they hit it big. i think the best part is that every single issue comes with a free mix CD of the artists they cover in that issue, and usually it's amazingly kickass. they've had radiohead and other bands like that on recently...i wouldn't be surprised if "violet hill" turns up on the next one if everything legal falls into place.

In my view Q has gone down hill lately, they used to cover new bands in some detail, covering more mainstream 'safe' acts.

Nme has just gone down hill completely from rather decent to rather crap

Word & Mojo magazine are good reads, some good freebies, but neither can match uncut, not just for the freebies, not just for the coverage of new brit bands, but mainly for the coverage of Americana, writing about some great american bands which for some reason don't really come over to the UK.

Well i've bought a few like Q, NME, Mojo, Uncut and The Word.

Q i really like, its easy to take in and covers some of the music that i am interested in, but it has good interviews and articles, and album reviews. The only thing is lately it seems worse. NME, well that needs no explaning, everyone knows how crap it is.. I think Mojo mag is really good actually, it covers alot of more unknown bands and its delivered in a professional way.

But sometimes the writers of Mojo act big-headed.

Q is playing it safe these days, now they don't give away a free cd every month the numbers have taken a hit, although I miss the uncut's "best of the month" cds, that was Word magazine is good as you hear some good bands which otherwise might have passed you by
