Opinions about Coldplay that people will most likely disagree with

Featured Replies

Let's start a thread consisting of opinions we have that probably won't be shared with others around here. I'll start!

  • When it comes to ranking their albums, Parachutes and X&Y are tied for the best, while Rush of Blood is in a distant third/second.

  • Swallowed in the Sea is an awesome song, both musically and lyrically.

  • In My Place isn't very good unless sung live, with an entire crowd providing backing vocals.

I agree with Swallowed in the sea.

alot of people over on the official board were slating it for the lyrics "You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me..."

but I love those lyrics, it's like saying, "you'd do anything for me"

I disagree with the other two, you're right.

AROBTTH is their best IMO

and in my place is a very good song.

In My PLace is better live, ino, but it's still good. And I agree wtih Age Sex Racer about AROBTTH being their best.

Some people will disagree with my saying chris's falsetto isn't as good as it used to be, others already do agree.

AROBTTH is their best and parachutes second. X &Y is the distant 4th. (VLV is already ahead of it).

SitS is fantastic i agree.

and IMP is great on the album, but it is better live

i also agree with swallowed in the sea, but disagree with the other two.

here are some of mine:

-i think both versions of "how you see the world" are very overrated, and i just can't see the hype. i find them some of coldplay's most boring songs.

-chris looks better when his hair is longer (:P)

-coldplay are a far better studio band than they are a live band.

chelsea i disagree with the 1st and 3rd.

here are mine (i didn't realize i should post my own until you did)

- Parachutes might be the 2nd or 3rd best song on parachutes

- Twisted logic is lyrically one of coldplay's best songs

- Don't panic is bad live

Most bands are better in the studio because they can do it over til they get it right, but I still thing Coldplay are amazing liive.

I don't think SITS is bad, but the lyrics need improvement, imo.

Chris really isn't Gwyneth's type or vice versa. *ducks rotten eggs*

Lol, great topic idea.

I'm going to get all personal with this and just come out and say Chris is my least favorite member of the band. I know he writes great music but sometimes I think he can be a little obnoxious and he might inadvertently be leading the band into territory that's too commercial.

Warning Sign is one of my favorite Coldplay songs. I know a lot of people don't like this one.

Finally, I don't think Coldplay sounds anything like Radiohead. I don't care how many times the comparison is made, whoever thinks this probably can't tell the difference between roadkill and filet mignon. :P

haha, well i disagree with all of yours :P

but that's what this thread is for :D

one more for me:

-"see you soon" is the best song that coldplay has ever come out with.

Most bands are better in the studio because they can do it over til they get it right, but I still thing Coldplay are amazing liive.

agreed on the chris/gwyneth thing wholeheartedly!! i mean, it doesn't matter as long as it works, but really it's hard for me to imagine them together to this day.

i'm not really saying that they're bad live, not at all...i just think they have more work to do on that front mostly when they're compared to other bands.

its not the best, but its amazing!

Hey justin, have you heard the live version of don't panic at glastonbury 2005?

it's one of the best songs they've done live, they didn't have drums on it, rather , will was on keyboards, it's SO nice!

REally? I think they're the finest liveact I've seen...but that's just me.

And yeah, in case anyone misinterprets me, I'm not saying Chris and Gwyneth are a bad match...they've outlasted a lot of other celebrity couples...I just never imagined it. I always figured he'd marry another musician and do the John & Yoko thing someday, lol.

- Swallowed in the Sea is definitely awesome, I totally agree.

- AROBTTH is their best, while Parachutes and X&Y usually tie 2nd, but I would put Parachutes before X&Y because I like the atmosphere on that album more, and its lyrically superior.

- I disagree with the In My Place comment.

Ok, here are mine:

- The ending of Ode to Deodorant is arguably one of the most exillerating Coldplay moments out of all their songs.

- Shiver is their most raw, and hence one of their strongest songs to date.

- VLVOD is almost certainly going to be better than X&Y.

- Square One is their best opener on an album.

- Amsterdam is their best closer on an album.

- 1.36 is actually a good song.

- The Hardest Part was a poor choice for a single.

- A Crest Of Waves and I Ran Away should have been on AROBTTH, somehow.

semy, i think we're beyond the point where we're surprised every time we agree on something, but i agree with everything you just said! :laugh1:

well, the only one i'm a bit squiffy on is "1.36". that's not one of my faves.

Totally agreed with the ones in yellow.

Nah, that's what he's got Jonny for! To do the Jon & Chris thing.

This pic made me instantly think of John and Yoko the first time I saw it. Weird! I remember them in a bed for peace. With microphones. Maybe b/c Chris and Jon are sitting?

Aw, so true. I was at the HSFestival in DC!!! That pic brings back some really great memories.:)

IMO

Statement I: Disagree

AROBTTH is their best, followed by Parachutes and X&Y

Statement II: Neither agree or disagree

It was a good song, but not their best

Statement III: Agree

How come In My Place could be the first single?

Here is mine:

- The Hardest Part is the worst single

- Clocks is the most popular single

- The Scientist is their best song

- High Speed, A Whisper and The Hardest Part is the worst song in their respective album

- The Hardest Part is an awesome song

- Tim Hopes video of Trouble is MUCH better than the other version

- That video and the video of Don't Panic are the best Coldplay videos

- The Scientist video has a great concept, but is just poorly done

- Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends is a great album title!

- Swallowed in the Sea is definitely awesome, I totally agree.

Why, must I agree.

Crest of Waves, yes that should have been on... I Ran Away, it's a good song, but personally I tired of it.

Semy, i agree with yours, but square one and politik are really close

I wholeheartedly agree. I wish they'd do this song over again... imagine how it would sound live at a concert!

I don't like In My Place :(

I skip it normally!

Yeah I agree, I really like Politik, but I have to say I like Square One that tiny bit better.
