NO BIG SONGS on "Viva La Vida" CD

Featured Replies

So you are saying its right for those same people who might bash the album in the near future, to post now and say they love it now just because the majority likes it? Its also right for them to bash my opinions also...meanwhile they might agree with me in the future?

Whats disturbing to me is the fact that diehard Coldplay fans are so quick to "love" the new music. It sounds like nothing we have heard before...but after one or two listens everyone is in love with the songs. I didn't realize everyone was so adaptable to change. I guess its just me then.

IMO the same people who are now bashing X&Y loved it when it came out. Everyone seems to go with the flow. The same thing will happen now. In a year or two or maybe even a couple of months we will start hearing the whispers about how we hope they go back to the sounds of AROBTTH because that's when they were at their peak. You k ow what...they never will because they know the majority of fans will still buy their music regardless of what they put out there because everyone follows everyone else. We are like sheep.

seriously... it's too bad that this is so frigging DISTURBING for you. like... WE LIKE THE SONGS. we arent following each other. i heard the song before school this morning before i had seen ANY reactions to it. and all day all i could think about is how it was one of the best coldplay songs i've ever heard. and i still think so. everyone agreeing that a song is good doesn't mean we are freaking sheep... it might just WEIRDLY mean its actually a good song and you are just being a baby because you are one of the few people who don't like it. seriously get over it.

I really hope none of the boys are seeing this thread. What would they think of their wonderful fans bickering and insulting each other. This is supposed to be the best forum on the internet, so stop being mean to people and let them have their own opinions. Constantly repeating your own thoughts isnt going to change anyones mind, it will just cause trouble.

Remeber what Chris said, all those years ago:

"I never meant to cause you trouble, I never meant to do you wrong"

"My head just aches when I think of the things I shouldnt have done"

"Eat more chocolate, visit maketradefair.com, and listen to more Coldplay"

(That last one has nothing to do with this, I just love that quote):D

viva la vida is big? Its in the same class as their previous big songs like Clocks, Yellow, and The Scientist? LOL!!! That song would be trash in the 80's let alone

now.

Please only intelligent responses please.

Best Coldplay songs ever? Ok everyone needs to relax. Take a deep breath. Actually Ill take one too. We are ALL jumping to conclusions here. We need to take a step back and look at the big picture.

DOUBLE POST

So now everyone loves synth sounds? LOL! I hope the band is reading these posts...but you know what...they arent because they dont give a shit. I said this last year that coldplay was going in the wrong direction and myself and others in this forum who saw this coming were right. Too bad because I would have loved to be wrong about this. Oh well.

First off, I'm a massive Coldplay fan, and I'm not intentionally bashing them! ^^

By "Big Songs" they mean songs that are meant to please everyone, that they know will be successful.

Coldplay is certainly wanting to steer away from cookie cutter songs:

Built off a wonderful arrangement of bass lines, guitar chords, straightforward drums, and a catchy piano line. Throw in Chris's voice, making sure to hit the high notes for the chorus, and you have a brand-new Coldplay hit.

While they make BEAUTIFUL music this way, as proven for sure with A Rush of Blood to the Head (Yeah, I wrote it out) and the worldwide success from X&Y, we've all been personally criticized for Coldplay songs all sounding the same.

When you think about it, Clocks, Speed of Sound, Talk, and (Kind of) Trouble all have the similar, previously noted foundation. Even through learning a large majority of the songs on piano, I've noticed many overlaps and repetitions of chords.

THAT SAID, I have no doubt in my mind that they could have used the same methods and still make a record we would all be proud of. I'm VERY glad they realized this and have sailed for open seas, exploring different music genres, instruments, and sounds. It seems to me they have a ton of resulting content, but have paid strong attention to putting only the very best on the album. Remember how long it took to finalize a track listing? Remember the "bands should break up over the track listing" quote? This shows how much time they put into discussing which tracks to include.

In conclusion, none of us will know until the album comes out, and we'll always have the old stuff! :D

Viva La Coldplay!

I have no problems with them going in a different direction...but why go the route of the unpopular and annoying synth sounds? I dont get it. I feel like Im in church listening to this music. Seriously the band has excellent musicians and they chose to ignore their talents. Why not go with an album with more guitars? Why follow U2's same path? Why name your album something that will always be referenced back to Ricky Martin? Sorry but they have stepped down the evolutionary ladder on this one. There maybe no fixing this.

Well, I hate A Spell A Rebel Yell, and that's very synth-y.

It's also a B-side.

Violet Hill has no synths, and features the strongest, most distorted guitar Coldplay has ever seen.

And Viva La Vida is mostly strings, with a solid beat, so I don't understand what you're talking about, low76.

I would suggest taking the other albums and step down the ladder into a dark place and wait for it all to blow over, because the "revolution" is coming whether you like it or not, and it seems to be you're against the mass majority.

And yes you have your opinion, just enjoy what you want and leave the new stuff to people who will appreciate it. If you don't like it, that's cool.

But everyone else does.

Well I'm not a fan of A Spell A Rebel Yell either but some of my all time favourite Coldplay tracks are Square One, White Shadows and Clocks and those are drenched in synth. It'll all got to do with the song, not the instruments used!

Dude you really have something against synth/keyboard sounds don't you. I guess thats fine to each their own personally I love the deep church organ sound of Arcade Fire it is DIFFERENT from your cliche bass/guitar/drums that gets OLD, like I said in a different post for songs that arent guitar heavy they may adapt it for the live show...they have done that before and can do it again. Will plays every instrument. Maybe he will switch it up on a few songs? who knows your judging by ONE song if you don't like it FINE, I dont like ASARY really at all but I love VLV. I see you as a 50 year old guy messed up on coke with tight leather pants and long curly hair wanting to shred on the guitar and calling it music.

yessss you hit the nail right on the head! very well put, i agree with all.

I carn't say I will be all that bothered about the 'big' songs or anthems not being there, I am not a fan because of that, I just love their music, regardless.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am very sad because no big songs on "VLV"

the "viva la vida(song)" isn't big song, because it have not any spirit, and melody of the chorus is too easy for me. BUT "violet hill" have something , sth that I still belive in coldplay .... :)

Well, I hate A Spell A Rebel Yell, and that's very synth-y.

haha yea u r definitely right..i definately hate A Spell A Rebel Yell i actually tried to love it...i love every coldplay song. and maybe asary will grow on me like twisted logic did(didn't like it until 2 months ago >.<) coldplay put alot of effort into this album and how to place them..like they said this album is meant to be heard from start to finish because if u had big songs..then u would pause ur ipod and just hear the big songs instead of the whole album itself..i am pretty guilty of that with Parachutes :( ..i basically only hear yellow when i click the album parachutes

What were you basing this misdirection on exactly? We haven't heard any of this new material until only a month ago...

i believe that they mean that they took off the songs that were gonna be hits in the moment for songs that were gonna be remembered in 5, 10, or 50 years. Songs that were better. Disco must have been huge in it;s time but no one knows any disco songs.
