NO BIG SONGS on "Viva La Vida" CD

Featured Replies

chris siad on The NME article that they took all the "big songs" off because well i dont know i think his logic is kind of stupid really he siad he wanted to make the album better not bigger well by him admitting they took off the "bigger" songs off hes saying we took off the best songs on purpose!! he knows which songs are the best but didnt want to put them in ! songs like" Famous old painters "and "Glass of water" chris says he didnt feel any pressure this time around and didnt care about the critics but i think he did if he changed coldplays entire sytle because of of critics!!

I wouldn't worry, because I'm 95% certain we'll hear those 'bigger' songs eventually

I liked the fact that Chris realised that bigger doesn't necessary equal better, it shows maturity and I think the album will end up sounding more like AROBTTH than X&Y because of it.

And that's a good thing in my book.

I agree with Semy. I think those songs will surface...maybe on the 'second album'?

besides, Viva La Vida sounds like one of the 'Big Songs' to me.:)

They didn't remove all the bigger songs. My impression was that they removed some so that there were LESS bigger songs. Clearly, there are anthems - Violet Hill's riff is anthemic as is the "If you love me, won't you let me know?" refrain. It will be sung to the rafters at gigs and Viva la Vida? Don't get me started on how amazing it's going to be to hear Chris tackle that live and have people singing along. They're big songs. They're just not overpowering. The idea of Viva the album seems to be that there are 10 equally brilliant songs, just in different, more subtler ways!

the fifth of the album we have right now is already sounding like big songs to me

that's a saying!

of course the album will have big songs! because big songs are the most popular and great songs a band has on an album!

besides, I don't think the guys want the audience to be excited with Yellow on every concert! They want to see their fans excited about the new songs!

Yes Im also a little mad about them leaving off "Glass of Water", but maybe they didnt leave off "Famous Old Painters"...

Believe me, coldplay aren't going to hold back any potentially great songs (Chris learned that after they were going to leave clocks off AROBTTH).

Have patience. If there's one thing I know about Coldplay, it's that we always end up hearing the offcasts one way or another. B-Sides, EP, free downloads...there's a mass of ways these could make it into general circulation which may be much better for those songs in the long run than if they were on Viva la Vida (album...ahh that's going to get confusing) drowning out other potentially great songs which we might not pay half as much attention to otherwise.

Me, for example, completely ignored the latter half of X&Y for some time without realising it, because at the start you had Talk and Fix You and White Shadows. I was missing the amazing Swallowed in the Sea, A Message etc because I was too overwhelmed. Maybe exclusion of purported 'better' songs is for the best? Mr. Martin know what they're doing!

Sorry for the ramble, wasn't necessarily directed at you just a musing on why we might have been temporarily deprived of Glass of Water etc.

Hey, you know what? Whatever. Let's all wake up here. We've heard 1/5 of the album and most of us thought it was awesome. Well, what's to fret about? Yeah, it kind of sucks that they could be leaving out some songs. But who's to say that we'll never hear them?

Same thing happened with me and AROBTTH, I was so amazed by In My Place, Politik, Clocks, Scientist, etc. I didnt even listen to Green Eyes, Daylight or Amsterdam until like a month after I got the album, and never really liked them until about a year later. I prefer an underwhelming album where you can listen to all the songs all the way through.

If they took the big songs off what the fuck is viva la vida. because its certainly not average. its amazing! i'm not too worried about this

What is thier definition of "big"? Because if Viva la Vida isn't "big" then I dont have a clue what is!

well big the typical single/ athem songs big is yellow, shiver, clocks, in my place ,god put a smile ,talk , and so on!!

umm viva la vida is HUGE. honestly if that's the best song on the whole album... i'll be FINE. and the thing is... i don't think it is.

I hope you're right!

I've got a strong feeling about Cemeteries of London - now watch it be the weakest song on the album

viva la vida is big? Its in the same class as their previous big songs like Clocks, Yellow, and The Scientist? LOL!!! That song would be trash in the 80's let alone

now.

BTW would someone give me a logical explanation why any band would leave potentially the best songs they made for a particular album off it? That's like if they left Clocks or Yellow off. Theyre too good for the album, maybe well make more money and release them as singles or maybe on a LIVE DVD or something. Is this bizarro world or something? Please only intelligent responses please.

it might be that it takes too lengthy of process to record them or

not all band members can all come up with their lengths,

or they'll be having different opinions with each other while recording.

so many reasons you have to type a letter directly to the band to get an intelligent answer you expect!

You know the response Im going to get. It'll be something like this...

Not everyone was going to like this album...including diehard Coldplay fans like yourself. We apologize but if you want to hear our music when we really gave a shit about the music and our fans, and not about our huge egos, just listen to AROBTTH or any of our earlier work. We are very busy with our fame and fortune and celebrity wives at this time but we would like to thank you for buying our music and making us rich and famous. Sincerely the best band in the world.

ummm yes, actually. i would put it in the same class as those songs. No 'LOL!!!' included. you REALLY need to relax and stop being so anti-coldplay. the song isn't trash... have you been reading peoples reaction to it? what makes you think your opinion is greater than everyone elses? why cant you just let the album come out before judging it? by big songs they didn't necesarrily mean best. they were referring to the x&y esque anthems which im very happy to see they are straying off from. it's funny how all of the people who are happy can keep their positive feelings in one thread but everyon who is upset feels they have to make a new thread about every single one of their negative opinions...

Whats disturbing to me is the fact that diehard Coldplay fans are so quick to "love" the new music. It sounds like nothing we have heard before...but after one or two listens everyone is in love with the songs. I didn't realize everyone was so adaptable to change. I guess its just me then.

IMO the same people who are now bashing X&Y loved it when it came out. Everyone seems to go with the flow. The same thing will happen now. In a year or two or maybe even a couple of months we will start hearing the whispers about how we hope they go back to the sounds of AROBTTH because that's when they were at their peak. You k ow what...they never will because they know the majority of fans will still buy their music regardless of what they put out there because everyone follows everyone else. We are like sheep.

nop they actually like the song. i like VH and VLV but i dont like A SPELL A REBELL YELL

while studying a course also i'll think about what to chose.

i opted my IT degree after taking inspiration from my own hardware engineer related person in the family and also some top groups in the field.

Following is never wrong it happens in all fields.

many celebs not only this band say that they're inspired by others while doing a particular thing.

what ever it is it might be personal like family or professional..(its nothing to point out here just your negative opinion that is making me to type this much).
