But rather than retreating, MGMT are getting even weirder on their follow-up, tentatively

due out in June. Instead of using their live band, as they did on Congratulations, the core

duo recorded alone, cherry-picking the best parts of their free-form jams to construct tracks

that reflect the Aphex Twin and house records they've been listening to lately. Says

Goldwasser, "We're not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they

hear it.

MGMT Announce Self-Titled New Album

Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden have finally announced the new MGMT album. MGMT is out September 17 via Columbia Records. Earlier this year, the duo told Rolling Stone that their upcoming album was recorded as a duo-- not with a full band like on 2010's Congratulations. The album was recorded at producer Dave Fridmann's Tarbox Road Studios in upstate New York.

Okay I've listened to this album about five times, once with the optimizer experience. Here's how I'd rate the tracks:

but they're all really amazing songs. If you're gonna watch it with the optimizer i'd rate them like this:

Plenty of people will be scared off from this cd after one listen, takes like 10 listens to even digest the songs. 3 favs are mystery disease, introspection, plenty of girls in the sea

I started watching 'The Optimizer' the other day and it's shite. I still haven't heard the whole album, so I hope it's better than it.
