Apple to fix Coldplay "Viva La Vida" error

Featured Replies

Good news to all iTunes users! & Coldplay fans!

Last week, Apple began taking pre-orders for Coldplay's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," and in so doing, offered buyers immediate access to the title track. As noted here, the single downloaded with DRM at 128 kilobits per second.

The post generated a call from an Apple spokesperson, who reported that the Coldplay track was to have downloaded at higher bit rate, the DRM-free and better-quality 256 kilobits per second that graces all music from EMI labels. But a quick iTunes check confirmed that the slightly lower-quality version did indeed download.

This week, Apple will rectify the error, according to a company spokesperson.

Those who received the 128-bit edition of Coldplay's "La Vida" should receive an e-mail from Apple sometime within the next 48 hours, explaining the error and offering a download of the 256-bit version.

But regardless of the bit rate, the song is good.

The quality sounds perfectly fine to me, but its good to hear another report which includes a positive opinion on the song! :nice:

When I read the title though, I was half expecting them to say that they weren't supposed to leak the song in the first place, haha.

When I read the title I thought the error was the title of the album itself - 'cause they first had Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends - and then they changed it to Viva La Vida only.

THat's what

I first thought. It'll be nice to have a better version. I don't notice the difference on my computer speakers, but on my stereo it really sticks out.

my copy says 256, so i dunno what they're talkin bout.

Apple isn't capable of any of this stuff, she's just a kid!

Lol. When I read that title on the main page, I wasn't paying a lot of attention on what I was reading and I half-thought… “oh, what a smart girl is Apple Martin..." :laugh3:

Yeah, I got the 256 file, or at least that's what the file says. And it has to be itunes plus, because it works on my Zen.

i was thinking this had to do with them changing the title from "viva la vida or death and all his friends" to just "viva la vida." i must say, i'm glad that this is not what this is! i want there to be some AMAZING explanation behind the name change...namley the double-album conspiracy theory :sneaky:

mines 128kbps as well..

thats what I get for jumping in early:(

oh well, I hope I recieve this email soon.

wonder what if it will link to a download of the 256kbps version or just give us store credit to buy the song again?

I got the 128 kilobit version:angry:

The simply way to check is the file format

If it ends in m4p you got the 128 drm version, if it ends in m4a you got the higher quality version

That title still gets me every time. I have visions of Apple Martin sat at the mixing desk making final tweaks to the album

can somebody post the 256 when they get it? that would be nice... PLEASE!!!!!:laugh3:

I'm still waiting for my apology email from Apple containing credit to purchase the 256kbps version...

Stupid Apple.

Me too! I got the 128 version also. It's been longer than 48 hours too! I just sent them an email asking what was up. They're usually pretty good about answer in timely manner.

Yup, definately been over 48 hours. I'd send them an email, although I can't seem to find one for the Australia iTunes Store. :P

So let me know if you get a response and what it says if you do.

I sent them an email and the next day they sent me an email saying iTunes Plus is a DRM free 256k version of the regular version and that if I'd like to upgrade the song to the iTunes Plus it would be .30. I sent an email back saying 'no no no...' and I REtold them about what was going on. She still didn't understand but gave me a credit for a song.

So, they replaced it, but I don't think ANY of them have any idea about the mix-up.
