Coldplays melodies are unlust

Featured Replies

^THat's what I'm guessing too. I love the new melodies, but I think they're more 'crafted' than just improvised or off the cuff...that's what comes of working with Eno,lol...

Exactly! Eno is known for precision, and he has mastered Coldplay's sound in that way. I think that some people would say that this amount of influence could be detrimental to a band's signature "sound", but I think think in this case, it was a welcome change.

Lustre and passion can be interpreted as the same thing, I would imagine. Would you agree?

Lustre, to me, means the shininess or newness of something. Passion, drive and thirst and whole-souled. Lust means sexual desire and libido.

*sigh* what is up with these new people!

says you who, despite your post-count, is still a n00b :P:laugh3:

I'm kidding.

what i mean about Lust is that do you think theyve run out of their imagination for cool and GOOOOODDDD melodies like clocks. do you think they cant think of anything else to play drums with or guitar, piano, bass, etc and make a good song? melodies people. do you think they have no more melodies?

Of course they have melodies...every thing that I've heard so far has wonderful melody in it...is it the same as their previous work? no. i guess your definition of what is a good melody is up for debate.:)

its def not the same but are they not thinking of anymore melodies. they seem way too simple and same with the lyrics no wonder life in technicolor is an instrumental now?

I dunno, ColdplayCold.

Here is the thing.

I just can't take you seriously when you say things like "I really disliked Lovers in Japan". I don't know. I can't.

But here is me trying:

Have you heard Life in Technicolor? That isn't slow. Neither is Viva La Vida. Neither is Violet Hill. Lost!, that is the band version, isn't slow either. The Acoustic is. They usually are.

Every single one of those songs, the least being Lost?(the Acoustic), has a melody that really, to me, is heart and soul Coldplay stuff. Heart and soul and the whole rest of the body.

But music is opinion, when it gets down to it. So to each his own, I guess. But Coldplay have lost no lust. Just listen to Chris sing Viva. Or the strings in Life in Technicolor. And try not to smile when you realize what that will be like live.

Viva Coldplay.

^Exactly. it's always a matter of personal opinion and taste, and even the band knew not all their fans would like the new stuff. I don't agree that they've run out of melodies at all, but it's a legitimate debate even if it doesn't suit me personally.:)

Some of the new melodies are better than others (imo). For instance, I think VLV is more complex that Lovers In Japan...but I'm not as familiar with LIJ yet, so I may be biased. ASARY isn't their strongest either, but that's why it's a b-side, and they were right to leave it off the album, imo, even though I like the song.

I think if you give it time, ColdplayCold, these melodies will grow on you...I hope so anyway. People are entitled to their opinion. This IS a Coldplay forum, and we should be able to talk about the good and the bad without getting insulted for it, so be nice, people..otherwise it's off to bed with the lot of you with no ice cream!!

mmm chocolate ice cream? with whip cream and sprinkles? those rainbow sprinkles cuz they'z bee guud.

That's what I thought the original poster meant by his question.

In response, I do not believe that Coldplay has lost their passion in the slightest. As a matter of fact, I would be inclined to argue that Coldplay has brought an even more forceful passion into the making of LP4 than their previous entries. Perhaps it is due to the religious influence (in whatever capacity it meant for the band) or because the lack of communication the band had with one another was restored in working with Brain Eno. Whatever sparked this surge of creativity, I like it and I think others do, too.

What exactly made you feel as if the band had lost their passion? Are you more of a fan of the epic songs with a lot of build in them? If so, I can understand that hearing a song that contains different elements may not necessarily be to your liking.

But you know what they say...Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one. :D

Hey hey, the wisdom of Dirty Harry - I like!:)

But, when it comes to Lovers In Japan, we've only heard a (very) rough version and we have to see how it and Reign Of Love gel together. Viva La Vida is beautiful, Life In Technicolor just brings a smile to the face of anyone I know who's listened to it, Violet Hill has converted many to Coldplay and is just so forceful and really like its about the end of all things and A Spell A Rebel Yell really grows on you after a couple of listens - but you do need a good rip so you can hear Chris properly.

And let's remember, Coldplay have bottled that incredible way in which, when you first listen to an album, you like some songs, dislike others - but wait a year and those songs you disliked initially will be very close to your heart. With the exception of A Whisper, there's not a single Coldplay song that I've haven't really enjoyed at some stage. Like right now, I'm back in love with Parachutes - the album is 8 years old, but man are the melodies and everything else just spectacular. With Coldplay - as with any great band - every time you listen to their songs you see something new, it gets a different reaction, whatever - it's just awesome. And that's why I love them - and probably everyone else here too.

My two cents.:)

EDIT:

Since no one has replied now in over a day, I'll assume everyone agrees with me and Coldplay's all-round genius. I'm cool with that:D
