lol Beximus, sorry if it sounded like I was being a really preachy bastard with the pedestal comment: I assumed due to your picture of Peter Griffin you'd get the Family Guy reference! Oh well.

I think their SHOULD be an option for the exact reason you seem to be querying: people DO want the option! Surely the point of a gig is to showcase the band's songs live to entertain the people? Before you say this is obviously possible with a seating gig (was Pink Floyd's "Pulse" seated?

Maybe, but how many of Pink Floyd's songs would you actually want to dance or jump up and down too? Bit different, I'd say, particularly as Floyd ended up being well-known for their elaborate stage sets and light-shows, which you can enjoy just as much sitting down.;)

Sounds like you're in the "Big Brother" section!!

following this thread through has been very interesting. i can't remember who said this but it changed my view on this..............AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC.....to me at least. but then again i dont think i will be all that pleased if they did an all seater show here in sydney

Just found this on the gigsandtours site for the MEN:

Event Details

Children and juveniles under 14 years of age are not permitted to enter the

arena standing area without being accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.

Unaccompanied children and juveniles under 14 years of age must be in

possession of a seated ticket.

That's probably just a general statement they use for all shows there.

Yeah I know there's a huge difference... unless... ok, let's just pray that Coldplay put on a show of Floydian proportions, then everyone'll leave happy. Well, I know I would!

Heh, heh. Sorry. My memory isn't what it used to be, and I haven't watched Family Guy in ages :p I think I put that avatar up not long after I joined and haven't been bothered to change it yet. Don't worry about it anyway, it's not problem

I think their SHOULD be an option for the exact reason you seem to be querying: people DO want the option! Surely the point of a gig is to showcase the band's songs live to entertain the people? Before you say this is obviously possible with a seating gig (was Pink Floyd's "Pulse" seated? I think so, anyone confirm it?) there are, as has been shown by the reaction on this and other coldplay forums, many people who would derive MORE ENJOYMENT from the gig if they had the possibility of standing up and bouncing around. Again, I know some people will say that you can of course stand up next to your seat, and believe me I will be, but as far as I am concerned, it's just not the same. The option should have been there exactly BECAUSE I (and others) want it there. A tour should be for the fans.

A last note: this is my opinion; up for discussion, not obeyance! lol

:D

Yeah, in general, I'm not really debating that people should have to sit and like it. I'm as confused as anyone about the seating thing - it's seems strange enough for me to wonder that there's some real reason for it, other than, we just want everyone to sit. I think until the people who's decision it was comes out and tells us why, then it's a bit of a mute debate. I've never sat down at a Coldplay gig, and I don't have the best seats this time, but that's not going to stop me from enjoying myself (except if anyone stands on their chair in front of me, expect to be pushed right off :p )

Also an unfortunate point is that nothing that anyone here says will make any difference this time due to the fact that the sales have already taken place.

And yeah, Pulse was a sit down tour, but it was a bit more sedate :p

In which case, perhaps they should be renamed Slow Pulse!

Oh come on, that was a TERRIBLE pun! lol. I suppose Pink Floyd's material is more sedate, but what the hell, if Coldplay put on a show that involves a plane crashing into a wall... I'll have no complaints!

I would, as I'm interested in the music, not gimmicks like that!!

that was me :P

^Which is why my above comment about gimmicks and light shows is also relevant!!;)

What I take exception to is people telling me that I should 'get it through my head' that I am wrong because one person has said so. Just because that person thinks that sitting at the side is the worst place ever, doesn't meant that everyone else does, or should believe the same. That's the point of a forum. We discuss. We don't dictate.

There are people on this board, unhappy at the situation, who are being a lot more polite and eloquent about it. If people take exception to me, then maybe they should tone down their own responses before I should be expected to do the same.

But tell me this. Why SHOULD there have been an option for standing? Not why you want one, but why there should be one.

Oh Jesus get over yourself and read properly. I didn't say "get it through your head" i said why cant people get it through "their" heads. There is a difference.

FACT Coldplay are a BAND. Having all seating makes them like POP, like Westilfe, Cliff Richard.

FACT It WILL be fairer to have a standing section AS WELL AS seats for those old people who want to sit down or people with disabilities. Having standing will mean there is an EQUAL chance of people getting to the barrier, more space means more people will get tickets, thus it is fairer.

Are you telling me that sitting at the side high up is better than being at the barrier, about 1 metre away from the band??? Insane if you think so.

Well that is hard to believe, I must say!:stunned:

The two conserts in Sweden has standings...

So you weren't including me in 'their' then first of all?

Look. All I'm taking exception to is your tone.

That's all on this one now.

Are you telling me that sitting at the side high up is better than being at the barrier, about 1 metre away from the band??? Insane if you think so.

Insane is not politically correct.

It is a derogatory term and as I'm sitting in a side tier - not high up might I add, but at the front, I take offence to this term as a personal insult.

I do not like you.

You're highly annoying and yet you've only joined this board.

And yes, I do think sitting in the side tier is going to be better for the particular arena I am going to, because being "1metre away from the stage" would mean I would actually be standing staring at the black underside of the stage, probably looking right up at a 90 degree angle towards the roof.

So yeah, side tier is better.

P.S Oh and let me know how you get on at your Coldplay concert, won't you?

Oh that's right...

you didn't get a TICKET

I don't reckon it's such a bad thing there being no standing. I'm in Blk 420, row F at the Monday O2 arena show and it's very near the stage. The upper tier equivilent of Blk 102. I'd rather have these seats than having the risk of not being able to see anything down in the standing area because someone tall is standing in front of me. :cool3:

Thats a little pedantic isn't it? People say stuff is 'insane' all the time. Doesn't mean you actually mean it in its real context.

Oh well. I'm new here so I don't want to upset anyone.

Tbh this whole debate would be made irrelevant if we had been given the choice. Cos then the people who like sitting could get sitting, and the people who like standing could get standing.

I think there has to be some reason why the UK shows are no standing, like some amazing new stage show or something. I can't think of anything else, unless anyone else can?

Maybe it's to do with Health & Safety, owing to to Chris's new fire-eating act!!:P

Exactly. Obviously those who were going to sit anyway couldn't give a t*ss, which is perfectly understandable.

It seems that none of those who are moaning about the complainers would have gone for the standing tickets had they been available, so their criticism is pretty much irrelevant in this case.;)

You don't know me, and I'm glad I'm new - better to be new than old - you have probably sat like a geek at your computer all your life. I've got better things to do with me time.. I won't post here on such a shit board anyway.

Your not a coldplay fan, how can you be if your not bothered by the no sitting policy?

I DID GET A TICKET GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT.

And your a stupid cunt so shut the fuck up.

I won't post here on such a shit board anyway.

Why are you going then?

Im not going. I think its absolutely ridiculous to sit down at a gig.

This is what I'm thinking. I know that they've done all seater shows over in the states, but it's not particularly the norm over here, which makes me wonder.

Well no, I would have stood if there had been standing tickets. I've pretty much always stood, though not every single time I've been to a gig. I've got seated tickets because I wanted to go, and I don't really care all that much because I'm going to see Coldplay and that's always good.
