Coldplay's Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is the first album that has ever reached that sales threshold just with paid digital downloads. As of this week, the album has sold 514,000 downloads. The digital realm accounts for nearly one-third of the album's total sales. The album has sold 1,619,000 copies, combining physical and digital sales, which puts it at #2 for the year to date. :o

The total number of copies now amounts to 5.054.400. Considering its 'world goals' and sales, the fourth album of the band has defintely become the biggest music success of 2008. The album sales keeps on increasing in France (226.666 sold copies), in Ireland (more than 100.000), Japan (+ 5.970 copies), Korea (10.355 copies) and above all in Poland (already platinum with 20.000 sold copies), US (1.667.072) and in Italy, where Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends has climbed up the top-selling album chart to No.2 and sales are expected to count much more than 110.000 copies. The single Viva La Vida certainly has led the album thus far, with 3.921.000 copies - both CD and digital - (of which 2.106.434 in US, 35.000 in Australia). The song rules a lot of charts (although the release dates back to the beginning of May).
