Billboard: SANTOGOLD to open North American tour

Featured Replies

In the newest Billboard article confirming Coldplay's #1 (!!!), it also says that Santogold will open the North American tour:

In other Coldplay news, the group has tapped Santogold as the opening act for most of its North American tour, which begins July 14 in Los Angeles.

I personally am not a fan at all. I don't really think this is Coldplay style, but then again, you know Chris! :laugh4: I have a feeling this could end up possibly worse than Black Mountain though, actually.

Bring back Richard Ashcroft!

yeah thats garbage...I can't stand Santogold. Rilo Kiley was much better

euw. i hope they're gone by october

Yeah! Santogold's ace. Hope she plays with them in the UK. Part of the reason why she was chosen was probably because she's not like Coldplay. It's good to have a support act that's a bit different, otherwise you get two and a half hours of the same stuff...yawn.

Anyone's better than Black Mountain, that's for sure =). It doesn't look like she'll be there on my night, July 14th. Does anyone else happen to know of the other support acts?

I'd love to see Black Mountain live, only got one og their albums early this year

Santogold is a decent choice! saw her support M.I.A in back in December, and she rocked it, so U.S Coldplay fans are in for a treat!

Lets hope the guys stare clear of Richard Ashcroft for the European dates

what's Santogold??

is that bad??

I'm confused like Lore. I've never heard of Santogold before. she's a good singer or a bad one or um...

NO FAAAAAIIIIIR!! I want to see Santogold too in LA!!

she's alright.....very different than Coldplay's style (she leans more towards new-wave and electronic, and i personally find her similar to M.I.A. a little ), but she's pretty good.

at the very least keep an open mind and try to enjoy anyway.

for starters, i suggest listening to the song "L.E.S. Artistes"

Santogold Sued By… Santo Gold

"When Googling hipster-friendly American pop/R&B/hip-hop singer Santogold, you may discover a guy named Santo Gold. He's a musician and actor whose credentials include starring in several strange infomercials for gold chains and a "space wrestling" movie. If you think these two artists' names are a tiny bit similar, you wouldn't be alone, because Santo Gold is suing Santogold for name infringement.

Santo Gold (real name Santo Rigatuso) has slapped a lawsuit on Santogold (real name Santi White) and her record labels, Downtown Records and Lizard King Records. Santo Gold says he's been using his stage name since 1983. Santogold says she got her moniker from a classmate sometime in the '80s

...Whether Santogold will still be known by that name or something else when she plays with Coldplay next month remains to be seen. But she'll open for the chart-topping British band at Montreal's Bell Centre on July 29 and Toronto's Air Canada Centre the next night." http://www.chartattack.com/damn/2008/06/1906.cfm

I saw Santogold yesterday at Summerstage. I was a bit bummed she didnt have a full band because that really limited her set which ended up being 25 mins max. But of the music she did play - she got a crowd that was dead tired from the insane heat/humidity - to get up and dance. Everyone around me was singing along and dancing - and we were in the VIP section which most people never get up and dance in (its at the very back of the venue and theres seats back there) -- i volunteer at summerstage so im not that special. LES Artistes is awesome live - it begs for you to dance and sing along.

All I can say is NYC loves her. The place was packed yesterday and there were people all along the outside listening/watching. I will say the whole thing was brutal. People passed out and missed her set, paramedics everywhere. Other than that - she is _SOOOOO_ worth seeing!

Her music is a great combination for Coldplay - totally different. She will definitely get the audience worked up and with a band I can only imagine how great it will be. I just wish I was getting to see her and the band.
