its true, we have fires every summer. there's a field by me that has burnt every year I've lived here. it used to really worry me, but its kind of become just part of routine.

but this year's been the worst by far. we're already experiencing water shortages.. people are going around with hospital masks on their faces.. you can't see across streets, and everything is white or grey because of the smoke.. it all feels a bit like I'm in radiohead documentary or something :nice:

its going to be tricky finding that oxygen to breathe in ;)

thanks (:

I did see it :\

I'm so torn though... its still a massive thing to get to do. I can play in my bedroom and at little tiny cafes all I like, but it very likely won't get me anywhere.

Oh I don't know

Chances are I wouldn't have to worry about that at all anyway. The best thing that has come out of this is all the practice, and all the words of encouragement :nice: Those two things are much more important than anything Capitol Records can offer.

Bah.

:P

You know what I think, but I'll chip in again, hope you don't mind...

Don't underestimate those small gigs, each one is very likely a small stepping stone towards what you one day dream of.

That said, I personally think you have the voice, the songwriting skill, and the performance ability to try to push for the next level a lot sooner, but only if you wish to. You have the talent, it's up to you how you're going to try to play things.

Good luck and please bring us new songs soon :)

hey i jus listened to your song. Wow. i really like it. u hav some talent. jus keep at it. the song was very refreshing. dont worry if u truly believe in it sometin will work out.

good luck with it. keep at it....oh i told you i love the song rite?

Umm.. you definitely have talent! Stage freight is normal - just pretend you're playing to a small cafe crowd - I mean it's really the same, but only a few more people in the cafe! (but yea, I'd probably be freaking out too!:stunned:) Just Omm before you go on to calm your nerves.. ;) I did alright playing to mall goers once; kind of a passive audience, so it's easier then to get used to crowds that way.. Just be yourself, be well prepared, and enjoy it!

You're absolutely right. I didn't mean that really :nice: Its just the massive oppurtunity that this contest might have to offer. I suppose what I really wanted to say was, the exposure I might get playing music around tiny cafes in my (rather) small town just pales in comparison to playing at a huge venue in a huge city for a huge band (popularity, not waistlines) *grins*

I know most bands start off playing little tiny places, and they're incredibly important for getting the ball rolling. I didn't want to sound ungrateful for getting to play little shows here and there. Its not really what I meant. Just wanted to clarify that :nice:

Chuck, I wanted to especially say thank you for continuing to take a serious interest. You always have insightful posts, and I really appreciate them (: Saying that, I didn't mean to say that I suffer from stage fright :P Its funny.. I'm relatively shy and quiet in everyday activities, but something about hiding behind a guitar/piano/mic completely changes me (popeye had spinach, the hulk had the gamma bomb, I've got ..music?)

Anyway, I didn't realize you played music too - where can we hear it?

Thanks (again again again) you guys.

I was so skeptical coming into this thread, but after just one listen I'm shocked. Your voice has the potential to melt the hearts of millions. I wish you every bit of success, regardless of how this whole thing turns out.

Beautiful little song, I like it a lot :)

Well, you've got it then!! I suppose it's preparedness and feeling comfortable & confident with your creation; perfecting the tune so it rides like a clarion call across the vastness of the arena.. I'm just the opposite - I'm shy with crowds, and not at all one-on-one or with smaller groups.. Glad to hear you have that confidence, Wonderwoman!;)

You've already heard it. Maybe I shouldn't say too much..

Thanks (again again again) you guys.

awha :P I'd love to hear it! after all the encouraging nudges you gave me, the least I can do is send some over in return.

anyway. (whew!) the video's sent off (in the nick of time I should add) almost too many tech difficulties for me, but now its out of my control - eek!

:nice:

Sweet! ;) a little background orchestra, and Maya, you should do just fine!! Such a simple, sweet melody.. you've got my vote!!

Seconded, absolutely!!

I saw some of the other entries on Youtube, and while some of them were pretty good in their own way (but not my cup of tea), I really think if Coldplay were to choose themselves then you'd be in with a huge shot at this. Good luck!! :)

thanks you guys :nice:

the radio station in my region chose their top entries this morning, and I didn't make it through (but at least I can say I tried, hey? :P)

they chose more polished bands, which I would've done too, to be honest. the only annoying thing is that the radio stations for each city haven't exactly been following the rules set out. the winning bands have music videos with their pre-recorded studio songs playing over it (it was meant to be live, and judged partly on performance and ability) but aw well (:

at the very least, I got better these last couple weeks, and made some new friends :nice: so, I just wanted to say thanks for the support, regaurdless of how things went, and how much more improvement I need to make. it means a lot.

M.

Gutted :(

And they changed the rules, just like the Brixton and BBC gigs here in the UK...

can't Coldplay's people organise anything fairly...

Maya, that's just not right - they should have stuck to the contest rules, and you might have come out on top! You were competing against studio recordings w/ videos, and it was supposed to be a live talent contest show?? That's definitely unfair! Hmph! So, what you're saying is that the radio stations are the go-betweens, and they get to whittle down the entries to a manageable level then? And they were untrue to their own rules.

I wish I could make it right - that's no way to treat contestants who were living up to the rules they wrote! I wish Coldplay would put their collective foots down, and straiten out the stations!!

If it's any consolation, I know Coldplay had lost a talent competition to another band early on, and the loss spurred them on to prove themselves worthy of listening to..:ears::happy: Maybe they would take a listen??

That's alright :nice: I would've been a huge gamble anyway.

The thing about keeping to the rules works me up a little, but its far out of my control (and it looks as if it wasn't just my region's radio station bending the rules a bit.. apparently in boston, they'd already chosen the top 15 a day before the entry deadline) so in that way it could've been worse.

And as for the good bit of it (music!) I don't think I can physically go a day or so without playing or writing something, so this doesn't change a thing.

I think its good to take chances, even if nothing comes of them, so I'm glad I went for it. I got something out of it anyway.. practice, a new song to add to my catalogue, some new friends, maybe a little more confidence. Its all good (:

As for the band ever giving me a listen.. I think they might be a little busy right now :P

M.

Well, who cares what EMI thinks. Personally, I've watched the videos - I think, no, I know that I'd take your song over any of those others, any day. Stupid rules. V_V

Still, I think it's really great that you'll keep going musically. I'm a musician myself, or sort of a self-styled one - I love to play piano and cello, and I improv a good bit. Still, I've never found myself able to compose a real song - just some riffs and such here and there. You have a real gift to be able to do that, and especially to be able to come up with songs of such beauty like this one...

Meh, who cares. Doesn't make you any less of a good musician. If anything, like you said, it made you better. All I know is that I'd personally love to here more from you someday. ;) Maybe not quite as much as I'd like a 5th LP, but still. ^^
