I think it will be even more experimental, a sort of Amnesiac after Kid A if you will (though not recorded at the same time). More experimentation, but a twinge more of their old sound as well.

I think it will be there biggest rock out album yet!

It might be their Joshua Tree

Perhaps it will feature some electronics? Now that would be interesting.

yeah but then everyone would just say they were copying Radiohead, and it would cause a lot of angry arguments about its originality

Nothing is truly original these days, just look at the Joe Satriani case/argument. Coldplay has already been accused of being a Radiohead clone in the past. However Coldplay experiment on their new album, there is bound to be some arguments about it. Don't get me wrong i still would like to hear some classic Coldplay on the new album but it would be good to see them experiment with other sounds than what they have done already. I personally would like to hear another track like Rainy Day.

well I still haven't heard Rainy Day so I really can't comment:lol:

Trust me, rainy day is their most experimental track so far.

Are you kidding? Coldplay doesn't have any experimental songs.

You haven't heard Rainy Day yet? :stunned:

I think one rainy day is enough, I mean, the type of sound, not the experimentalism

I Agree :D

The most experimental, prog-rock they got was actually "easy to please". I think for all intents and purposes, VLV was sort of a coldplay equivalent of Kid A, and I expect the next album will feature a similar degree of experiment, just focused towards a different theme. BTW rainy day is not particularly experimental. It has a wacky intro, but a basic guitar riff and strings. I'd say Viva la Vida is more original than rainy day in many respects.

That probably seems the most likely thing that will happen with the new album at this time. Looks like ive turned this thread into an argument about Rainy Day. :embarassed:

I think IF...a big if...they release it, it'll be more a Prospekts March approach. A old Parachutes Coldplay, meets experimental boundary pushing Coldplay.

I do bet they wont release it though. Not due to it being ready or good, but because of their low self esteem. They now have serious competition coming in March. U2 are releasing an album, they dont need the album to be good to make a HUGE splash. Now the album is supposed to be their best since 1991, so expect a HUGE year for U2.

Coldplay will be to scared to play ball with the big boys. I hope they do, I hope they decide to take a stance and show they aren't U2 Jr. If they do release LP 5 in 2009 it will prove to a lot of people these guys are serious. That they are the U2 of our generation, the band who can produce effectively and consistently. Lets hope!

this has been confirmed?

this line has been removed of their wiki page (at least on the spanish and english versions).

ditto. I miss their old sound. But I doubt they'll get back to their original sound again.
