Some of you know that I'm going to England tomorrow =) and I need advice from those who live in mentioned cities.

So, I was thinking of buying some CDs and stuff (if they aren't too expensive, of course) but I don't know where.

Any used CDs shop somewhere near? :uhoh:

Liverpool:

Zavvi has a huge sale on at the moment so you might get some really good cheap CDs and DVDs - I got the 2-Disc Prisoner of Azkaban DVD for £5 the other day :D

Probe Records is a really good independent music shop, you will find some nice stuff in there:

Hairy Records on Bold Street is another good one.

Oxfam on Bold Street, they sell some good CDs at ridiculous prices.

HMV of course, I think that is now in the L1 shopping centre, not too sure.

Quiggins (now called Grand Central I think) - it's full of quirky, cool, 'alternative', interesting shops and a nice little record store too (downstairs). Quiggins is where the scene kids hang out, bless them.

No problem Nina! Where are you from by the way - how long will you be staying in England for? Also, I guess you'll have your camera with you - make sure you take some pics of the Superlambananas in Liverpool!

Thanks, Mudbug! I'll check it out!

Chris - I'm from Slovenia and my friend and I decided to explore England a bit :D I'm going there tomorrow and will stay until 21st July (I'll spend 2 or 3 nights in Liverpool from where I fly back home). I'm not sure yet where we'll be the last night since we have to check in at 6 or 7 am. I hope hostel people will be so nice and let us have our backpacks there.

Isn't a festival going on these days in Liverpool (I got that information from Lonely Planet)?

And what is this Superlambananas?

It's Beatles Day this Thursday actually - there is going to be a parade and loads of other cool stuff. L'pool is Capital of Culture this year so there should be something fun to do while you here. There are 120 superlambananas in total - although 1 is in London for some reason, and 1 is on top of a mountain in Wales. They are basically statues/models of a lamb with a banana coming out of its rear end - sound horrible, but they look rather cool.

The Super Lamb Banana was the original work of Japanese-based artist Taro Chiezo. The unusual artwork was created to warn of the dangers of genetically modified food, whilst being appropriate to the city of Liverpool due to the port's rich history in the trade of lambs and the import of bananas.

Did you see the LFC one? I thought that one was quite funny!

There's not much else to say about Liverpool.

[i will let you know I'm promise. It's just that I haven't got a clue what I'm going to be doing myself.]

As for Manchester, you'll find HMV and some other music store [probably Zavi] in the Arndale Centre.

In Manchester there is a fantastic shop called Clampdown records... its next to a sex shop. Its in the city center....

its on a Street called Lena Street... they have CD´s of rare concerts on there..coldplay, oasis... many more ...I reckon you could down load however the stuff they have mainly has come direct from the people that have done the gig. They have rare shirts... all sorts. In such a small place you can get lost ...

It should be easy to find, if you put "Clampdown Records Manchester" on google maps it shows you were it is..

You also have to go to "Gregs..". its pie shop and have a Meat and Pataoe paste for me please.... or if your a vegi a chesse and onion one... hmmm they are very nice its just around the corner from the shop I mentioned..

Another place in Manchester I would highly recomend is some of the shops on Oldham Street, but try and stay away from Vinyl Exchange, you are most likley to get better deal in HMV.

Head to a place called Afleks Palace its a wonderful place as well... on the same street.

For music Manchester is a fantastic place to shop... a lot of it been made there. !! end off

Good Luck... please have a fantastic time if you go to Manchester... its wonderful and cool !!!

Oxfam on Bold Street, they sell some good CDs at ridiculous prices.

Some oxfams are like that, but the worst I have found on my travels is the British Heart Foundation Shop in Andover, £2 for singles, £3/£4 for albums (compared to another shop 5 minutes away where all cds are 30p).

*wishes Andover would get a HMV or Zavvi*

Hiya!

Today i've been to HMV, Zavvi and this bookshop which starts on B and end with S (a momentarz lapsus, i can't recall its name) and i think the best deals are in HMV - 2 CDs for 10 quid. Will see how things go in Manchster - i'll buy some stuff there IF i hav any money left. :D It's soooo expensive!

BUT I met some kind people. Well, everyone's extremely kind :nice: If you want zou can check my blog ... the link is in my signature. i'm just updating it. :)
